  1. Big orange bellies full of BBS, growing really fast now! New babies took their first swim today, took residence in the far back amongst the lettuce roots which prevents photos...but I'm sure there is plenty in this tank for them to eat for now, I will start adding microfoods once I see more start swimming around- only 2 or 3 right now.
  2. @Torrey thank you! Your little ones are beautiful - I would be sad to part with them too! Guess that bittersweet day is hopefully coming for me soon too... These fry are hatching out in a tank that has been set up for 8 months now. Hopefully that will help - I see 6 more today, with probably many more on the way...
  3. Update: the fated 4 of the first batch ate their first BBS today! Slow going but they look like real fish now...impossible to photograph in the large aquarium, but I did my best. The first fry of the second batch hatched out today, and I'm definitely more prepared this time!
  4. Yeah, I got it as a juvenile almost 9 months ago now, and everything to this point has indicated it's a female, shorter body, pointed face, rounded dorsal fin, short ventral fins. And now recently the dorsal has just taken off, gotten much longer. Who knows. I bought it because the store had no normal blue rams at the time, even though it was my second choice, and it has grown on me!
  5. Those gold opals are so beautiful! Thank you for the detailed response...I have this beaut here, and was thinking to get a mate but wasn't sure if I wanted to try crossing or just keep it pure. Guess I will see what the stores have!
  6. Have the same problem with hydras after feeding BBS regularly, especially in my newer tanks. Becomes an eye sore honestly... Question, if you mix a normal ram with an electric blue, what happens?
  7. Sorry to hear about your fish - the same happened to me. Lost an entire tank. Took the thing outside, nuked it. Started over..now happier than ever with the tank. Don't let it discourage you, make the best of it!
  8. Yeah, when I had some with a betta, I had no idea that I had them. Removed the betta, suddenly they appeared. Now I can hand feed the little buggers, it's great.
  9. Don't have any advice, but man those are some beautiful fish.
  10. @Torrey this advice is fantastic, thank you! Looks like they're ready to spawn again, so I will incorporate this into my next batch! I can see big round stomachs now on the first hatch (down to 4-5 now unfortunately, but eating dried food), I tried BBS but they didn't seem interested yet. I like the cup idea though - it did seem like they were spending a lot of energy to swim even in a 5 gallon with a tiny sponge filter. I got tons of micro food from @Odd Duck today and I'm excited to try again! I'll keep updating.
  11. @Odd DuckOh that would be amazing! I can't get them today - but how hard is the vinegar eel setup? Just half cider, water, and apple pieces? I would prefer to take those. I'm in Allen, which is unfortunately quite far haha. Used to work in Fort Worth though so I know the drive pretty well though.
  12. LFS only has blackworms 😞 I see a lot of live foods on aquabid, so I might order there for the next batch. These last few seem to be taking the Hikari, so that should tie them over until BBS hopefully.
  13. @Odd Duck sadly I don't - thought the infusoria would tie them over until BBS. Guess that's where I went wrong.
  14. Update: Sadly down to 4 fry. Not sure what went wrong, as parameters have consistently been in check. Squeezed infusoria jar in about 4 times a day, and have been adding hikari first bites but seems the numbers keep dwindling. Guess I will try again and see if I have better luck..
  15. Glad you were able to give the crazy dude a home though! I would love to have some of those some day, but like you said, need a special tank for them...
  16. I have some long fin leopard danios right now, and while they are quite active, they aren't zipping - it's more just like constantly exploring. Was the 1 giant danio the only one of his species when you had him? Could've been stress from being alone, since they like to be in groups - when I received the leopard danios and they were stressed in the bag, oh my god, they were so fast.
  17. Update: it's been a solid week since the last of the fry became free swimming, and while around 10-20 easily spottable ones are going strong, some are becoming weak and floating around. I've been using lettuce jar infusoria, and I'm going to start giving Hikari first bites in hopes to boost their strength. Here's to hoping they make it to baby brine!
  18. Definitely want to breed rams some day, and reading this is very enlightening! Thanks for sharing!
  19. I got into this hobby after pandemic binge-watching all of the Co-Op's videos last year, starting with this humble 20 gallon long. It's gone through a lot - a complete re-haul, different stocking, lights, filters, stands - and I think it's finally found it's groove a year later now. Wanted to share a photo before I get in there and trim it up - thanks to the community for the constant help!
  20. I do, I have an electric blue ram, 10 red eye tetras, amanos, and snails. I don't thinking adding more Kuhli's would crowd your tank as they are strictly bottom dwellers and your rasboras and betta inhabit a different space. It may increase your bioload so you might need to do more water changes depending on your plants, but I believe the extra Kuhli's will give a higher quality of life for the loaches you have already as opposed to trying not to overstock - they really do need more companions in my opinion. For perspective, I have not done a water change on my 20 gallon in...a long time, and it is technically "overstocked" (red eye tetras are quite the little pigs), but I use a lot of floating plants and others to keep nitrates in control.
  21. Glad to see this is still going! Having a whole big shoal of them that are all yours is going to be so satisfying.
