  1. @Patrick_G I agree - the design part is really fun. Plus I would get to build a new stand! But I already have a 55 gallon in storage. That's gonna be my small one when I finally move - hoping for a 90-125 for a big community or discus tank!
  2. @Emika_B that was my concern too - these little tanks have largely stabilized and are very low maintenance. I hate the stress of the new stage, but can that be mitigated by seasoned filters/substrate etc? My motivation for upsizing/combining is that they are getting a bit overgrown for their small size, plant wise and shrimp/fish babies and I want more room to let that expand, rather than giving them to the store or just throwing out more plants. As for MTS, I feel that haha.
  3. @lefty o I agree. Plus, one tank to break down versus two!
  4. Hello! As the title says, I want to consolidate my 2 nano tanks and take advantage of the petco sale going on right now for a 29 gallon. My hesitation is I'm probably moving early next year, and I already plan on moving all these fish into a 55 gallon when I move (can't set up the 55 gallon in my apartment). Do you think it's worth the trouble, or should I just bide my time? Thanks!
  5. @CalmedByFish no I mean the endlers are acting as good dither fish - when I've quarantined other species of rasbora alone they tend to be super shy for a while. These are in with some endlers that are more confident and everyone seems better for it!
  6. @CalmedByFish yeah they seem pretty confident shoaling and don't hide away when I approach the tank. But maybe it's because the endlers with them are so bold haha
  7. @Patrick_G I believe so. I'm hoping it's not too big of a difference...they're all still young and pale right now.
  8. @Tyler LaZerte awesome thanks! Yeah not really looking to breed them, just wanted to make sure they won't have lesser quality of life.
  9. Hello! Well I fell for the trap and got some Chili Rasboras and didn't check the bag carefully before leaving and well, yup, there's imposters among us. I have seven of them, at least 2 are actually chilis, 1 is a phoenix, definitely a few uropthalmoides but the others I can't tell for sure yet. Will they be stressed not having a full school/shoal of the same species, or will they do fine as a loose group (I mean heck they do look really similar unless you stare em down). They schooled very tightly when they were first put in QT because of stress, and now that they are more relaxed they do loosely hang around each other. Just wondering whether or not I should bring them back and try to single out the exact species. Thanks in advance!
  10. @Frank cherry barbs are an idea! Love the bright red.
  11. @Samanthabea these https://www.liveaquaria.com/product/2526/?pcatid=2526 ? Looks like a really cool project actually! Kinda scary looking honestly haha
  12. @Gideyon I've been thinking about those too - one of the first fish I initially wanted. Sadly I could never find them locally, and settled for Red-Eye Tetras as my first fish. Still love them though!
  13. Hello! So I snagged a new 55 gallon tank because Petco was selling it for 50% off. Alas, I can't set it up until I get a home, which might be a while, so I want to dream a little. So, what would you do, or what would you select from these? My current idea is a cooler water tank chock full of nano fish. Here's a list of fish on my mind: - Clown Killifish - Leopard Danios - Celestial Pearl Danios - Dwarf Emerald Rasboras (already have these, which would be moved over) - Blue Neon Rasboras (already have these also, same case) - Chili Rasboras - Harlequin Rasboras - Corydoras (not sure which can go in cooler water, but I need em!) - Hillstream Loaches - Neocaridina and Amano Shrimp - Scarlet Badis - Bolivian Ram? Definitely not Neocaridina safe though - the usual smattering of snails to complete the ecosystem My only stipulation is "mostly" shrimp safe - this would be my only tank probably to have shrimp, and I love the little buggers. Any other suggestions, or another idea altogether that is just too cool to pass up?
  14. @SWilson just saw the sale. Definitely gonna pick up a 55 as it looks like the 75's are all gone!!
  15. @anewbie beautiful tank! I love the overgrown look. And I agree, the floaters take up so much of the nitrate! I constantly have to remove more haha
  16. @SWilson what there's the petco sale?? You shouldn't have!!
  17. @SWilson Curiously enough, it does have some Eco-complete, that I had used from an older aquarium to seed it, although it also has inert sand. Time to set up a new aquarium with only eco-complete, for science right??
  18. @Isaac M yeah I wasn't testing nitrate for a long time after getting them established because it's just such a pain..the strips are great. Thanks for the advice, I think I will add more if I can find some healthy ones at the LFS to fill out the herd.
  19. @Isaac M I was using API test, and shaking the devil out of it, the main reason I hate using it haha. So I tested again today with the new co-op strips today and got the same result. I agree it's a good balance, just wish I didn't have to supplement so much.
  20. @CT_ only reason I hesitate about the floaters is because it provides so much cover for the fish. I suppose I could test and see if it affects their behavior, the floaters will be back soon enough haha
  21. That's what I've been thinking too! I have Emerald rasboras and Blue Neons - only hesitation is that I've only found the Blue Neons from Aqua Huna and they're so fragile, usually half are DOA 😞 ends up an expensive venture with shipping costs..
  22. Hello! I've got a couple nano 5.5 gallons (yay apartment life) that are stocked with 6 rasboras each, with the usual smattering of snails and shrimp. I feed pretty generously, and am dosing 4 pumps of easy green a week (2 pumps twice a week) and I'm still sitting at zero nitrate! I pull fistfuls of dwarf water lettuce and duckweed every week too. One doesn't have any algae at all, but one is grows a manageable amount each week. My question is, do I stock heavier? Or just keep pumping more fertilizers? I hesitate because 5.5 gallons isn't much, and I don't want to upset the balance too much. But man, it's a lot of fertilizers for such a tiny tank. Thanks!
  23. @Ken that's a great idea, thank you! A sacrificial plant haha
  24. Will do. Java ferns are not my favorite, but hey, whatever doesn't get eaten at this point. I will look into getting those foods - thank you! They currently get Hikari Micro, Bug Bites, blood worms and brine shrimp so I think they can all use a little fiber haha.
  25. Hello! I've got some voracious Red Eye Tetras that just nibble on EVERYTHING. Any small leafed plant - gone in a matter days. Countless micro swords, small crypts, and wisteria gone. My poor anubias can't grow new leaves because they eat the darn thing before it can even grow. The only thing they don't seem to touch are my lilies, larger, established crypts, and java fern. They chew on my amazon sword but it seems to grow too fast for them to make a sizeable dent. What are some of your recommendations other than those as to "non-edible" for the future? I've tried feeding a ton to slow them down, tried feeding boiled spinach regularly, no stopping them. Crazy buggers.
