  1. I did some more reading on it and some say it's extremely common, In as much as 50% of all freshwater and some say all freshwater harbors the bacteria for it but just won't affect fish that are healthy. While I'm not sure I'm convinced all water has it as then we would be seeing way more cases of it being transferred to humans, I think my chances of getting it should be slim to none considering I only have a few tanks and some people out there have dozens but I do know of a youtuber "the secret history living in your aquarium" who was recently hospitalized for a bad infection. Don't know all the details but we could all be at very high risk if that's the case. And people like cory should be almost guaranteed to experience it at some point... Not that I want that but when u spend years in a fish tank it makes your odds go way up. This is literally more freightening to me than covid ever has or will be.
  2. Im pretty certain he got it from a plant I moved in there... I'm curious why this isn't more talked about in the hobby given the apparent risk. Literally sounds like a nightmare...
  3. I'm quite paranoid now, I'm not going to lie...
  4. When it comes from Amazon it's a blessing if it works out of the box lol I was considering that one but like every other heater was put off by a couple of the negative reviews
  5. Have you experienced any cases of this yourself? My main cause for concern is how fast he went downhill. He was fine 5 days ago, all his fins healthy and all. Do parasites usually work that quickly? I also had an otocinclus in another tank die but he had no fin rot, ich, or hole in head.just sunken belly. He also died very quickly probably within a day or two of me noticing he wasn't very active.
  6. No experiences with reoccurring illnesses when you've done this in the past?
  7. I saw those but you can't adjust temperature manually and I believe that may make it much warmer.
  8. So I'm looking for a heater for a 5 gallon tank that I can use for breeding my pygmy sunfish. Im using 5 gallons as I'm limited for space and have lots of fry. Room temp for my tanks is around 71-72 degrees but it's not really the cold I'm worried about, I just want the temp to stay a pretty consistent 74-75 without having to worry about room temps getting too low. What I'm looking for is a heater that can raise temps only a few degrees and keep it there. I can't find any that I trust enough to buy. Would like something compact and accurate and reliable.
  9. So my betta just passed away unfortunately and I'm wondering how I go about decontaminating his tank of whatever illness he had... My main concern is being able to reuse the subsrate which is fluval stratum. I can take the whole tank down as he was the only one in it, but it was pretty well established with plants and what not. How do I make this tank safe for future livestock? Not sure exactly what illness he had but he started with internal parasites, then got a wound from scratching which became infected and went downhill from there. May have been fish tb but who knows. Any advice appreciated...

    Sick betta 😔

My temp is around 72 degrees, been the same pretty much the whole time Ive had him. We live in Florida so room temp is pretty warm. I use r/o water in his tank and did a huge water change before I added meds. Tds is pretty low probably around 200 or less. He just floats here or lays on the ground. I think he's dead sometimes cuz I can poke him and nothing happens but then if I watch for 15-20 mins he will move a little bit. If u want I can try for a better pic.

    Sick betta 😔

So a few days ago I noticed my betta swimming really frantically and scratching his gills everywhere he could. I added general cure to his tank(5 gallon heavily planted at least weekly water changes) he seemed to stop scratching a day later but then I noticed very slight fin rot starting on one of his side fins. I added maracyn. Over the last couple days of treatment he has only seemed to gotten worse... He seems to have a fungus growth all over his body. I also started adding an ich treatment the day before yesterday too. He is now extremely lathargic, swollen abdomen, and just hides under a catappa leaf all day... Is the medicine making him more lathargic while he's healing or does this sound like he's not going to make it? He also stopped eating after I added the general cure. He's only been about 3 1/2 days since this started. I'm prepared to euthanize him with clive oil if needed... He is a veil tail betta from a chain pet store, but I didn't know of the many problems they usually develope with age. I've had him over a year now but he was definitely at least a year or more when I got him as he was already to his adult size.
  12. I feel like this is the main con of having them in a tiny box... No infusoria or biofilm or anything else to eat between feedings. They definitely need to be fed 3-4 times a day in that box most likely.
  13. Hahaha I can only imagine 🤣 your spouse will think your now into fish porn lmao all jokes aside though that's a great article I do wish they added a photo of the organ next to the paragraph to help the dimwits but I'm going to search and see if I can find something that has a photo for direct reference. I'll use your search term so I know we're looking at the same thing.
  14. I did read through that page they didn't really get a good definitive answer kinda just speculation and said medicate anyway. I appreciate the info on general cure as well as my fry will definitely not survive without all the micro organisms throughout the tank.
  15. That's awesome I'm excited for lots of them!
  16. I'm not so certain it is indeed a fish lice based off the photos I looked at
  17. By constantly does that mean I will get more fry every week, every two weeks? Sorry if these are dumb questions
  18. It looks like its on the inside of the fish. Also is prazipro safe for other micro organisms in the tank and fry that's only a few days? I have API general cure right now. Would that do the same?
  19. Well I hope I can get some more fish out of this. I'm going to try leaving them together. It's only a pair. How frequently do these spawn?
  20. I added a photo, also I currently have no floating plants they have done their spawning in mermaid weed (stem plant) I'm finding it difficult to remove the parents without disturbing eggs or fry that are in the tank as it's a 20 long and their small and fast. Will any stick around the plants on the bottom like they are now? The tank is pretty well planted but not that well grow in so while I have lots of plants they are kind small still. I'd have to pick up another 5 gallon if I removed them as well as additional filter etc.
  21. So my otocinclus have the weird tube like things near their anus, right in the middle of the fish where the tips of the ventral fins would meet if you drew a lime straight across. I'm pretty sure it's right next to where the excretions come out. Is this part of the otocinclus anatomy or is it a parasite? Also is API general cure safe for eggs in the tank and couple day old fry? Also will general cure kill the other micro organisms that my fry use as food? Fry are of another fish
  22. So I have a pair of pygmy sunfish in a 20 long with some zebra otocinclus. One of the fish, I believe the sunfish, have spawned and I have tiny almost microscopic fry scattered about the bottom. My tank is medium planted as you can see in picture, I've added a few more stems since I took the photo and has some catappa leaves in the bottom, plenty of microscopic foods on the glass and in the substrate. My question is do I need to remove the parents to get survivors or will they get eaten? They are tiny fish and the fry are even tinier so I'm not sure. It's a bigger tank than they need probably but they spend most of their time at the bottom. The parents are really good at hunting small foods
  23. That's kind of where my mind is as well but considering the extra stress of moving them I may just deworm in the 20 gallon and hope all goes well. Would be cheaper to replace all the plants than it is the fish.
