is this too many fish for my 6 gallon planted tank
Matt B replied to brayden malone's topic in General Discussion
I have a 6.8 gal. With a lot of plants. I think that's why I've been able to keep Cherry Shrimp, Ramshorns, 3 male Guppies and a Hillstream loach in such a small tank. I use 2 nano sponge filters and a 25 watt heater. -
@cmo1922 Don't be afraid! Give them a try and see what happens! I think you'd be surprised with what works!

Useing a small flashlight to see what was going on in the nooks and crannies of the tank.. I noticed the worms are definitely light sensitive. 🤔 They dart back into the gravel and the ones I can see in the gravel, move quickly out of sight!

That is so awesome! It wouldn't last long in a tank with a large fish! Never seen one in a shrimp tank before, makes sense with nothing to chomp on it...It makes me look forward to doing some fly fishing this summer! The adults can be quite beautiful.

Need some advice post-new-tank-disaster
Matt B replied to buildingaqua's topic in General Discussion
This is the classic new to aquariums mistakes and fixes....Guilty as charged!! Live and learn and boy did I learn a lot... I think Fritz-zyme helped me , not really sure... Can't test for beneficial bacteria 🤔. I believe there's almost no way to really avoid the chaos of cycling a tank and getting it seasoned. . Lots of live plants and as much stuff from a seasoned tank as possible! Add some fish food, try and grow some algae and wait....... -
I like this subject and reading about all the different options out there! I recently put some pics together for a friend, she was wanting to know what I was doing with this 6.8 Imagitarium cube. She has a 5 gal cube and loves it. Shrimp and plants, very basic. So the tank is great! I got it second hand, so this was a project... So keep that in mind. The internal filtration system was junk, removed it, (not an easy task) ..The light was junk, replaced it.... lid was broken so I just use a piece of plastic from a rubbermaid container, nice and lightweight, so when I drop it on my foot, no problem. . I really like a small simple cube! This is how it's set up.....

@lighting13 It's kind of hard to say how much to add to a 3 gal.🤔.. It's actually hard to describe how much I add every other day in my 6 gal. I'd call it just a 1/4 of the little scoop that comes with it. I've got a lot of shrimp, snails and plants,.. so food gets consumed fast...There are a couple of You-Tube videos I've come across that fellow hobbyist descibe what they do in different tanks. It's amazing how much info you can find these days!

There are definitely some expensive shrimp foods out there. They do work great! Especially the powder Bacter AE... However, I've found the same as many others, just crush up a good quality fish food like Xtreme crave works just as well...

If I'm not mistaken, these are more or less the same as the Co-Op heaters. There is a 25 and 50 watt available.

@Fish Folk That's what surprised me. I've never fed blackworms before. 🤔 From my understanding, it only takes a segment of a worm to make a worm. I wonder if frozen blood worms or another food source contained them? It's pretty cool how things just seem to mysteriously happen. 😎

Because I have become a 'Nermy' Sponge Filter convert. I have be considering options for my HOBs..... 🤔 Future water fall feature in a wine barrel pond!

100w Coop Heater flashing EL76. It’s still heating.
Matt B replied to JoeKirk's topic in General Discussion
@JoeKirk I did the exact same thing! . My 100 watt was flashing EL and then 78.....what the? Oh yeah... face plant. I took off the suction cups turned it so I can't see the display. It's still working great! I do keep a thermometer in the tank to double check its maintaning the temp I want.. So far so good! -
Another sponge filter modification. I just can't stop goofing around with them! I love these things! I did another half the tube and didn't cut the sponge, with a medium sized...just squished it on to see if I could! Haven't put it into a tank yet. It's a work in progress.

I have a 7 gal. cube that currently only has a Hillstream loach, Cherry shrimp and a bunch of snails in it. There is a lot more microfauna that have come out, now that nobody's muching on them. I noticed these guys today poking out of the gravel, 'looking' around. Are these black worms? 🤔

I really like the Co-Op heaters. I came across these while doing a Google search to see what's new in the heater world. These look just like them... ??

I am curious about 'clogged'. What is it doing? Or not doing. I was also wondering do you use the Ziss air stone with the adapter? Or did you switch back and forth to test it? I do not use an air stone with the new Nermys. . What has others experiences been? 🤔
