OceanTruth
That IS spooky seeing tanks hang in the air like that. Glad to see all is safe and stable though.
ChemBob
The pool noodle inside the tank is a great idea! Is there any purpose other than keeping the floating plants corralled?
H20CultureLabs
@ChemBob No other purpose except to keep the floating plants from running off. Im using foam pipe insulation tube here, pool noodle would work great as well (and comes in fun colors!) H20CultureLabs
Added the drawer fronts to the aquarium trays to make them look "cleaner". Also added my prized LRB Aquatics Blue Dreams to the tank on the right. Some daphnia will hopefully clean up the green water for me.

H20CultureLabs
In each of the shrimp tanks I am using riccia flutians as both natural filtration and a cover for the shrimp. The growth is a soothing green and it is very easy to take care of. I simply tie it to lava rocks from my garden with black thread and drop it in. Shrimp love and my water is crystal clear with just a sponge filter.
OceanTruth
Wow, I didn’t realize riccia flutians is absolutely gorgeous!
H20CultureLabs
@OceanTruth It is a great plant when wrapped around a rock to anchor it in place. The only issue is the little pieces can float on the top and get everywhere if you do not net them out.
OceanTruth
@H20CultureLabs Do they eventually attach themselves to rocks or driftwood? Or do they always need to be affixed to something.

H20CultureLabs
@Anita and @OceanTruth Unfortunately i have noticed that they need to remain affixed to whichever object they are attached to. It grows quickly and covers the thread it is attached with in a very short amount of time. Next time I make a Riccia stone I'll post it on here. 2
H20CultureLabs
Checked the CPD aquarium this morning and found some eggs! It looks like the new rack is starting to work well.

H20CultureLabs
Put some plants in the rack. Ill be trying to grow some tissue culture Pink Panther crypts. I'm not expecting to harvest for 6 months at least. The shrimp really love it!
OceanTruth
Should look amazing when the crypts fill in a bit!
H20CultureLabs
Looks like it has been almost a fortnite since I last posted; yikes! Really cool update for everyone though. First, the bad news. The first batch of eggs posted fungus'ed on me; I guess I need to wait until the system is a bit more mature. Now the good news! I was able to do a bit of wild fish collecting while in Orlando a few days ago. Although I was looking for Elassoma okefenokee, I was very happy to have found a group of Lucania goodei instead! I was able to bring back 5, along with a group of H. formosa and a couple of linned topminnows!
H20CultureLabs
Here is one of the areas I went collecting, the Little Econlockhatchee River. This area proved to be too sparse vegetation-wise and I had my best luck along a drainage canal in a sports park. I am excited to go back and try to find more fish in the future.
Daniel
It looks like good Elassoma habitat. Netting up under the floating mats of plants looks like a choice place.
H20CultureLabs
@DanielI thought so as well, and had heard from a local fisherman (Instagram Species.Spotlight, I am in no way affiliated but he is a great local resource) they were there. Unfortunately the mud was deep and the weeds were choked with wood. I am excited to return since an aquarist goal of mine is to catch and breed all five non-endangered varieties of Elassoma. H20CultureLabs
@Anita Here is a picture of one of my baby male Everglades Pygmy Sunfish, just starting to get his gorgeous colors. I find the captive raised fish to be much more outgoing than their wild-caught parents.
H20CultureLabs
Unfortunate news to report, I have lost all of my L. goodei. My guess is they were not as tough as I thought and despite frequent water changes for the ammonia spike, they all ended up dying. Unfortunately, I think the aquarium I placed them in wasn't "seasoned" enough. Everything else is going well. The tissue culture crypts are starting to convert nicely.
Anita
Oh no, my condolences! Well, we've all been there. 👼 Very nice looking crypts, btw.
H20CultureLabs
The water change system is finally in place and working! So far so good, it is draining well and the water is becoming crystal clear. The apparatus is meant to be temporary and run once a week for water changes. I wish I had something as fancy as Cory's, but thats for a future project.
