Someone on the Facebook group shared a picture of their gold roseline shark. It was so pretty I decided to order some to join my other roseline sharks. While doing so, I saw a crab species I haven't kept before (Terrathelphusa cf. chilensis), so I will be trying them as well. I'm currently preparing my 40g for them. Here is my reworked tank:

I have also given up on s. repens in the midground of my 10g. I've tried it several different times and it never flourishes. I'm pretty sure there is just too much shade in the spot I want to put them in. I decided to try blyxa japonica for the first time. I think it looks great so far! Under high lighting it is supposed to turn goldish or reddish, so I am excited to see how it turns out.

I finished preparing my 40g for the crabs I will be receiving on Wednesday.

-Added Ttree pleco caves for a total of 4 to give everyone a place to hide/ molt.

1. Back right side of tank facing the side glass.20230807_200456.jpg.55e0da09898545c2119a3c5a7177a975.jpg

2. In the center to the right of the wood piece.

-I got the HOB breeder box all setup as the land area and I got all the openings closed off with mesh.

Yeah, totally.

I'm not 100% sure. They have been relatively active, but my partner notice they were struggling earlier.

Are your new crabs brackish?

Nope, they are freshwater. I think the only brackish crabs I've seen for aquariums are fiddler crabs and red claw crabs.

If they are curling their foot forward, I tend to worry. The lifespan on a mystery snail is about a year. Have you had your snail that long?

Yeah, I'm familiar with foot curling being an old age symptom of mystery snails. I'm not sure if that is what is going on here because their foot looked normal when they were on the glass. I can't remember how long I've had this particular snail, or how old they were when I got them initially.

Best you can do is good water quality, and plenty of food with protein, vegetable material, and calcium. They eat more than people think. 🙂

Unfortunately I lost Morti, my crayfish a couple of weeks ago. It was very surprising and sudden with no apparent symptoms beforehand. My best guess is it was a unlucky failed molt, as other inhabitants seem to be flourishing.

However, today I received some new crustaceans.

I named my gold mystery and blue mystery snails Rick and Morty.

Sorry for your loss. As your Morti (kinda like Morty, ey?) passed away ( RIP), maybe you can name the blue crayfish Rick to remind of him? :')

It was Morti, short for Mortimer. Apparently In the Middle Ages, the Mortimers became a powerful dynasty of Marcher Lords (nobles appointed by the king of England to guard the border) in the Welsh Marches. I didn't know that explicitly, but I was going for a nobility vibe with the name.

My partner already named the new crayfish Blueberry.

75g updates:
-I caught most of the guppies in my 75g and paludarium and took them to my LFS. I ended up getting enough store credit for two three spot gourami and a gold roseline shark.
-I added two three spot gourami and an electric blue acara to replace the hoard of guppies.

I did a pretty major rescape of my brackish paludarium.
-I removed 4-6 inches of sand. I initially added a lot, so I could make a large slope, but it didn't hold it's shape.
-I removed all but 6 male guppies and plan to try empire gudgeons instead.
-I started injecting co2

Aren’t empire gudgeons purely freshwater?

In the book on brackish husbandry I have it says that adults can live in water with a salinity of up to 1.005SG. It also says when they breed, their fry generally drift down to brackish estuaries. It recommends raising fry in brackish or saltwater.

Your tanks are beautiful! I hope to get my tank to that point when I can.
How are the crabs doing? Even though I like fish, my wish list is filling up with invertebrates I’d like someday. 🤪

I found a hermit crab on the lawn with no kids around who might have dropped him. I took him in, got him a friend and named him Gomer because he made me laugh. 😃His friend’s name was Golly of course. 🤣 Golly lived five years and Gomey eight. I really enjoyed them.

It's sort of a mixed bag. Some have escaped (despite my best attempts to escape proof my tanks) and passed away before I found them (my red claw crab, one of my indian lilac crab, previously some gold claw fiddler crabs). One of my banana crabs arrived in not the best shape and never recovered. My female fiddler crab also disappeared. She had eggs a few times, so I think she reached the end of her life cycle.

Currently I have 3 watermelon fiddler crabs and 2 gold claw fiddler crabs in my brackish paludarium. They are doing quite well, and always up to something silly like hanging upsidedown from the mesh top waving their claw. I have one banana crab, "peach," in my 40g. She mostly likes to hang out in her pleco cave during the day, but seems to be in good shape, and presumably forages at night. I have one indian lilac crab, "pomegranate," in my 75g. She is decently active and likes to walk around in the short plants, rocks and wood in the front of the tank. or climb the dwarf sag. She rests in the pleco cave next to dwarf sag on the right of the tank, directly on top of my crayfish's burrow 🙄. She also rests on the lip of my HOB filter when she wants to get out of the water (she also has a land enclosure she ignores).

I’m sorry to hear about the crabs that have passed but that’s great the others are doing well!

It sounds like they each have their own little personality quirks and that’s very fun & interesting! 😃

Yeah, they are quite amusing. I very much enjoy them other than their incredible ability to escape their enclosures.
