These are the instructions I used, and they work great!  But I can't take the credit. These instructions are from @xXInkedPhoenixX's thread:

"I have Indian Almond leaves on a subscription order with Amazon. My water changing system for my 5 tanks is as follows:

I keep 1 gallon empty water jugs from drinking water- anywhere from 9 to 11 of them (that changes due to them wearing out or if I'm using one for Epsom water etc).

I bring to a boil 2-3 full sized IAL leaves in an 8 quart stock pot, once boiling I turn off the burner, put on the lid and steep anywhere from 8-12 hours.

I then fill each of the 1 gallon jugs with SOME of that tea water (anywhere from 2 to 4 fingers high) then fill the rest of the way with tap water and fritz dechlorinator.

I let the jugs sit out 12-24 hours uncapped then cap and use as needed.

This lasts me anywhere from a week or 2 depending on my water changes- right now I start to run low within a week due to frequent QT water changes for my four patients along with my resident tank water changes.

This is likely way cheaper than buying anything that "contains" the extract. Plus I have leaves on hand all the time if I just need to plop one in a QT or tank for "extra"."

I have a smaller scale operation going.  I only have two of the 1-gallon jugs.  Any extra dark water that I have boiled I just put it in jars and stuck it in the fridge until I do a water change and free up one of the 1-gallon jugs again.

You could do that but the tea trick I was referring to was to use 100% rooibos tea, it’s aquarium safe and cheap!

Thank you for sharing! I hadn't seen this idea before, so I will definitely consider using this method. I'm keeping an eye out for a nice group of angels and some sterbai corydoras to get the aquarium started with. Obviously I will have to get the water set up for them first though, so I guess I'll be placing an order for some almond leaves soon.

an interesting idea I was looking into was cashew leaves instead of almond leaves as cashews are native to south America, I ordered some from joshes frogs off of amazon but they canceled my order : (

I don't think I am going to be super picky about everything that touches the aquarium being south american, but I want the look to be that of a south american river. Thanks for bringing that up! I'm sorry your order was canceled though

Update-

I got a dehumidifier connected to a temperature controller that will turn it in when the temp in the room falls below 75F. In the summer I can also connect at fan or some other cooling device when the fish room gets too hot.

I also purchased some low budget lighting that actually looks pretty good in my opinion.

If anyone has ideas for other things I should get or improvements to make it would be much appreciated! Thanks

What could be cool if you had some sort of way to transition the nature from the tanks to the tent (like a riparium, but with more of the tent) not sure how good that would turn out but it would be cool if you turned the tent into a little jungle where you could go and escape from the world for a half hour

I really want to do something like that! I am loking for good emergent plants to help cultivate that look. I have been thinking about pothos and bamboo. Any other ideas?

If you do use white mangroves as they are from freshwater higher altitudes

Thank you! I have been thinking about trying a few different species and seeing which one works best for me.

Yesterday I swung by a lfs on my way home from basketball practice and picked up a group of 5 angelfish and a trio of beautiful guppies. I think @Fish Folk has a similar strain.
