  1. I guess it's a good thing I take so many pictures of him lol. I'm in awe as well. I was preparing myself for his death, this was very unexpected, in a good way of course!
  2. He's still acting just fine and eating like a little piggy, looks a little more marble today, and I do indeed think his one eye is turning blue. I read a whole bunch about the marble jumping gene in bettas last night, it's wild! I'm pretty sure that is what is going on, this guy keeps me on my toes. Though now I'm considering changing his name from Goldie Blue to Bob Marbley 🤣 Thank you so much to everyone who helped me out with this. I had no idea!
  3. That is so crazy. I am crossing my fingers that this is what is going on. I turned the lights out for tonight but I will check in the morning at his eyes. Do you think the water parameters above look ok then? Also, thank you!
  4. He has been acting normal, even with the color issue going on. Eating the same, acting the same. Everyone in the tank is acting normal as well. The only thing that changed was the Easy Green dose on Monday. I did a 30% water change last night. It is a 55g, and there are only 6 white clouds in there with him, 1 pleco, and 2 snails. I have had him since May of 2021, and other than his colors darkening and becoming more shiny with high quality foods, he has looked the same in that top pic for 8 months. Would he change colors like this for no bad reason? I just tested the water, and am posting the pics for advise. Our pH usually sits this high and it's never been a problem. Do the Nitrates look too high? I have had him since May of 2021. His cup said he was a Halfmoon, and someone at a local store said he was a mustard gas betta? I am embarrassed to say I don't know much about it. I honestly don't know other than the Halfmoon label that was on his cup. This came out of nowhere in the last 48 hours, I am really at a loss here. He has brine shrimp and bloodworms once or twice a week, plus fluval bug bites and his green gro & color enhancing pellets he gets daily from Aquatic Foods. He's been on this diet for as long as I have had him, nothing has changed in that way. I posted the water test results I just took in the photos above if anyone has advice. Thank you so much!
  5. My sweet Goldie Blue has always had a deep blue colored body, and over the last 24 to 48 hours his color has changed drastically. He's been on the same food for two months, water parameters are all normal. I have not added and fish or made any changes since late November when I had a huge tank issue that is now resolved. The only thing new is I bought the Easy Green fert and put it in for the first time on Monday with my water change. I am adding pictures, because I don't know if he is ill or if this is normal. He is also eating just fine and active. First pic is how he's always looked, second and third and from last night and this morning. Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.
  6. Welcome, you're going to love the forums! Howdy from Fort Worth!
  7. What a cool video! Thank you for sharing. I really love that stand. Filing away ideas for later projects lol. It's a 55g. He says that we should get a new one, but I am sure he'll complain every step of the way in the process of moving it lol. He has 0 interest in the fish and doesn't enjoy helping in any way, which is fine because it's my interest and hobby, but sadly I don't have the muscles for some of this stuff hehe. @Atitagain thank you for another detailed visual walkthrough! This community rocks!
  8. Those look spectacular! Your tanks are beautiful. I'd love to have a multi tiered stand like that with several tanks in my office one day. I had some magnets on there for Christmas actually. It's definitely a fast way to solve the problem for the short term. I hate seeing the canister and all the stuff down there, plus I want to lift it up off the ground in general.
  9. I love this lol. I'm not so handy but there is nothing that my best friend can't build, so if you can dream it she can build it. My husband says we should just buy a new stand, but that is a LOT of work to move it and I'd rather DIY this one up. I'm going to show this to bestie and see what we can do. I very much appreciate the detailed explanation and pictures!
  10. My aquarium stand isn't ideal at all, and I'd love to cover the front up with something pretty, or build something onto it like doors. Wishful thinking but also a shelf inside if it's possible. It's metal, so how would it work to use hinges for doors? What kind of creative setups do you have? I'd have loved an enclosed stand but this was a gift and I didn't think it through before setting things up. Show me your stand set ups, and throw me some ideas!
  11. As someone who lost close to 20 fish a few weeks back due to not knowing I needed to/should quarantine fish, I can sympathize. I am still waking up every morning afraid I might find more dead fish, but thankfully it seems to be under control now. I'm still testing my water every day in fear. It was by far one of the worst feelings I have ever had, and I am still kicking myself for it. I hope you can get your situation back on track soon, good luck!
  12. A few weeks back I had an issue in my tank. It's hard to know if my pygmy cories died from the med trio or if they were all sick to begin with, but all of them died within 2 days of adding med trio to my tank. All except one of my 12 looked healthy, so I don't know. Like twodaend above, I'd probably only dose one med at a time if I ever add cories again. It was heartbreaking.
  13. Welcome! That is a very cool setup! I hope Rascal will be alright, I am also coming off a big scare with the tank my betta is in, so I know how stressful it can be! Love the flare lol.
  14. Welcome! This forum is a wonderful and friendly place. I'd love to see pics of your bettas if you're willing to share!
  15. I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas, I wanted to update that it's been two weeks since I lost anyone in the tank! My betta is looking great, and all the other fish seem to be healthy. Water parameters have been stable and normal for close to two weeks. I hope I am out of the woods, and I couldn't have done it without all the help here. Thank you all SO much!
  16. I am dealing with similar issues in a tank I was cycling. It does settle down, and gets better with each water change/cleaning. It will still stir up dirt if you poke it though. Just give it time.
  17. That all looks SO yummy! I LOVE your gingerbread men lol! We usually make fudge, sugar, and swedish cookies, but my mom and son did them together this year. I have a big pot of chicken noodle soup going right now, not a tradition just craving it for some reason. My mom usually brings monkey bread Christmas morning, as well as hanky pankies which was my grandmas tradition for as far back as either of us can remember. Sucks you have to work, but hopefully you can enjoy some drama free downtime in between!
  18. I know, he's so adorable! His lil lips are too much! I still need a name for him. Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I be keeping a close eye on him and definitely take a picture each day. He's eating great and seems content, and other than that mark on his head I don't notice anything else off. I'm probably just paranoid after having a pretty big tragedy where I lost a lot of fish in my other tank a few weeks ago.
  19. I brought home a new Betta two days ago. He had this marking on his head and I don't know if it's my imagination but it looks like it's getting darker. I can't tell if this is just his markings or if he is possibly injured or sick. If anyone with experience can take a look and give me your thoughts I'd appreciate it!
  20. Welcome to the forum! I LOVE your pond, and your betta is majestic!
  21. Thanks for the replies! I will let you know how it goes.
  22. I am wanting to get some 3D printed decorations for my tank made, and I need some advice on the proper filament. If it helps, I am looking to get a blown up version of The One Ring (ideally close to the pic below with someone holding it), and the party sign from Lord of the Rings printed out, so it'd need to be colored filament. My neighbor has a 3D printer and offered to try to make these for me, but I want to be double sure that we use fish-safe materials, and I know literally nothing about 3D printing so any help would be awesome.
  23. I don't have much to add in the way of help, but I clicked on this because I too have a pleco who poops an unbelievable amount. He is a clown pleco in my 55g and I could not believe how much was in there after his first day or two home with me. When I first brought him home I thought it was nervous poops from stress, but he never...stops...pooping lol. I do as RonBFree mentioned above, and limit my pleco specific foods to once or twice a week, zucchini, and then he can graze off the rest of my tank.
  24. Just before the crisis that some of you are familiar with in my 55 gallon tank that led me to these wonderful forums, I was in the process of setting up and cycling a 10g for my betta. I bought some Seachem Flourite for the substrate, and did NOT rinse it off before placing it in the tank, as my LFS told me not to bother. The water was muddy but settled within 12 hours, but there is dust over just about everything in there, which also gets stirred up every time I move something around. I am using a sponge filter, which I am also not sure is the right size, it looks HUGE in the tank. The parameters are getting close to being able to swap my betta over into, but I am worried about the Flourite. My guy has been through a lot, and I worry that the dust in there can harm him, and about how to clean the tank if every time I even gently touch the gravel it stirs it up. Before I go farther with this should I replace the Flourite, remove it? How about the size on this filter? Any help to avoid future crises would be welcome lol. Thank you as always.
