  1. Some of you my remember the guppy i had in This tank a while back, and while the little lady has since passed she is survived by a dozens of sons and daughters and hundreds of grandsons and granddaughters. The strange thing is, all the daughters and granddaughters have blue tails like their matriarch while the males all have red tails. Is this common? I understand variation in color in offspring but i dont understand why it would be tied to sex.
  2. Yeah neons are generally under fed and sick. You may be able to get through it with salt and power feeding. That or hunt for a better source
  3. Just follow the directions on the bottle, youll change the water anyway. I said tablespoon, so thrice your dose. 3 teaspoons is fine for all but the most sensitive fish (theres like 2 species, anchor cats and another)
  4. I think we in general underdose salt. I think to seriously attack diseases takes 3 tablespoons per gallon. Any less is a therapeutic dose rather than medicinal. That said, that much salt will kill your loach faster than the fungus so stick to ich x. Save the hardcore salt doses for cichlids and livebearer.
  5. I have stalagtites growing in my shower. If neon tetra couldnt surbive hard water they wouldnt be the most popular fish in the hobby.
  6. Ok if you like your eheim drfinetely get another one of those
  7. The first month is tough but if you get past that keeping them 5+ years is easy enough
  8. I thought the issue was that it was broken not that it wasnt strong enough
  9. Theres this one small schooling fish i like a lot. There pretty rare and hard to find but maybe youve heard of them. I think they deserve more attention. I forget theyre name so ill just post an image
  10. Ok so i have a polar blue cichlid and i keep it with sword tails and tiger barbs. This mix works well. The cichlid doesnt have the mouth structure to really hurt the other fish, and is not really a graceful wwimmer so it cant chase down the more agile sword tails and tiger barbs. On the flip side the cichlid is way to beefy and agressive for the others to harass. You could probably do any barb or any quick fish
  11. Freeze the aquasoil in an ice tray and push the cubes into the substrate
  12. If i run just water through the maker, can i use that to make rapashy? Is the small coffee residue gonna cause problems
  13. I think it is good you care so much. Maybe you can find other local hobbiests to share your platies with? Theyre probably having as much trouble finding good fish as you are.
  14. Yeah they all look female at birth. The time it takes to be genderable varies based on temp but i consider this the point they go from fry to juvenile
  15. Basically every plant outside of carpetting plants and most stems are reasonably easy. The trick is to try as many as possible.
  16. My experience with sand is that if you leave it be it will get dirtier and dirtier and then one day it will no longer be dirty. I think it slowly sinks into the sand or something idk tbh
  17. I think a pair of kribs and a bunch of tiger barbs will give you what your looking for
  18. They sound and look like theyre doing fine? Sounds like an initial die off followed by a recovery. I would monitor further
  19. I dont think its due to the wattage. Propably just a bad heater. I dont think theres an issue with getting the coop 100w, itll be nice to have if you ever upgrade also.
  20. I blacked out my tank once for two weeks for velvet, and the lily grew 3 new pads. There is probably some unknowable qualitt to you water, like to much boron or something weird. I see it all the time where people cant grow one plant for some reason. Someone asked me the secret to growing dwarf sag, since it grows ceazy in my tanks , when i. Reality its one of like 5 plants i can grow consistently. Maybe you've been unlucky and have gottem bad bulbs, or maybe theyve been outcompeted by other plants(although this doesnt really make much sense). There are a couple trickly lick flipping it over or removing it and leaving it moist, out of water foe a month that may be worth trying out.
