  1. Well the white Guppies have been in QT waiting on their new home. Sadly I've lost 2 to an unknown disease. The last 4 seem good. I treated them with a med called Nitrofurazone Green and have slowly taken the meds out with water changes and Polyfilter (which I highly recommend for any fish keeper's QT tools). Hopefully no more losses. Not sure when I might see their like in the store again, but if I do in the future I would like a few more. My QT capabilities are almost full up though so that's not happening any time soon. I only have one tank and that stays empty in case any of my resident fish need a QT. Here are a couple of them today:
  2. Do you have any meds on hand @BCGirl? If so list them. I've not treated Betta popeye, but I did on a catfish (that was injury not infection- though that's a concern with injury) and used Kanaplex. If you have nothing else after I medicated my patient a few rounds I simply used time, salt, Indian Almond Leaf and extra, extra clean water (daily water changes in QT). Epsom soaks as well, to get swelling down.
  3. Wonderful community tank! And what looks like the start of another great tank! Welcome to the forum, lots of good, knowledgeable, helpful people here!
  4. Awesome Vibe! I have always refered to shrimp (yes even freshwater) as sea bugs and when I had a few Ghost Shrimp I loved them, they were so cool to watch. Sadly for whatever reason I've not been great at keeping shrimp (mine actually die, so I know how you felt, so glad you found them!). I'm hoping to keep some eventually but I'll live vicariously through the forum members! I look forward to your updates!
  5. Mystery Snails are fun, lots of fans here for them! Welcome to the forum!
  6. As long as your tank and sponge in there are cycled, yes you absolutely can. To be even safer you can start running the new sponge with the box filter on the tank, then take that off in a week or so.
  7. Yeah, didn't think I'd be at almost 4k either. What the heck! Congrats @tolstoy21🥳
  8. oh no!!!!!😱 Though my first answer would be broken tank! That is an extremely close 2nd!
  9. @Cwsignu it's actually very fair. One has to be an active, contributing member of the forum to be able to buy/sell on this forum. We only recently got this PRIVILEGE. You have to make at least 50 MEANINGFUL posts which when interacting with this good community is not very much. Your reputation here is an important thing, this is how you build it. 10. @lefty o lol, i'm good. I actually don't mind the cat(s) getting in the tree. I get a tree FOR the cats. It was his idea. 😄
  11. No @flyingcow doesn't appear little rover there is interested! For now.
  12. Weird! Definitely contact them! That's not normal (I have a Flex9). Let us know what they say!
  13. @Zenzo Very cool! I have a family very widely involved in cars and motocycles (no professional racers though- just extreme riders/enthusiasts) I'd brag about my better half but he's too humble and would turn a bright shade of red if he even knew I was talking about him (his work speaks for itself) -I have a feeling. He hasn't ridden that particular bike, he got it in trade for work now it's just a pretty ornament- he's an amazing custom vehicle builder (including Motorcycles which he has ridden as well) and is a total artist with metal fabrication. (he also built the couches in the living room there, made of metal- leather cushions were outsourced). He's a prize, wouldn't trade him for anything. 🙃
  14. There are likely some great online resources for Guppies but IMO the local fish store is usually the best place- why? Because a lot of LFS source their guppies from people just selling them to the store- often they are local so they're raised in similar water that you have and there's no shipping. Ask them, if they do have local guppies I'd buy them there.
  15. I'd change the word from dog to animals. I get healthy fears born out of actual experience and respect for animals that could potentially hurt you. Any time I've ever heard someone say "hate" in the same sentence with an animal as a blanket statement with no actual experience they are immediately suspect. I believe Twain had a similar saying but his was about cats.
  16. @Zenzo it is my better half's photo yes, and indeed that is a speedway bike, nice eh? Can't ride it in the street but sure is pretty to look at 😃
  17. Absolutely correct, that goes for plants too, when you're an aquascaper! This is the root of all our problems! 😄
  18. @Scaperoot Welcome to the forum, if I may be so bold WE here on the forum are hands down the BEST place to hang out for aquariums on the internet. Lots of kind, knowledgeable people. You can journal here too and share your hobby. Beautiful tanks btw.
  19. Yes most people (and the internet) would call my tanks overstocked. But I have zero water parameter issues, my fish are healthy, active and are not crowded. I have Otos that spawn and I don't know any other hobbyists that do (personally- of course you can find stuff on the internet- though nobody on this forum has claimed to have them either). There are 60+ of them in that tank (a 20 gallon). So really it's just a balance of bioload, filtration, size, species and what you want your level of maintenance to be. As it is I can leave my tanks for a few days without maintenance and they're good. The only reason I do daily maintenance on my Oto tank is to clean up their left over food (they are messy things). If you didn't want them I'm sure the store would give you credit. Chilis would come back in stock sooner or later.
  20. Embers are very small. I have 7 in a 9 gallon with 8 Guppies and Endlers, a Hillstream and 1 Betta (also one large Nerite). They take up no room and have almost no bioload it's so slight. If you got them from the big box store and you wanted Chilis you could likely take them back. I really like my Embers though- they are the eye of the storm in my tank. They're not going to get much bigger than what I can see there. And yes, those are DEFINITELY Embers.
