  1. I'm at work now and can't post mine, but I like this better than what I have and might look into doing it myself. More sponge = more better!
  2. Yeah, its mostly aggression and compatibility, less water parameters. Lots of info in this vid!
  3. This is, and has been, my set up for a while. When you are not quarantining, keep the sponge filter in another tank, to keep it cycled (or add a pinch of food once a week to the qt tank). It only takes one time to not qt fish and you'll be sorry! A little more than 2 years ago, I added a swordtail directly to a community (the last fish in a 55 gal) because I 'ran out' of qt space and lost 25 black neons, an sae, and half of my corys to columnaris, and the meds to save my angelfish and the rest destroyed my plants. Not alot monetarily, but still devastating. Especially if you're stocking expensive fish like discus, its worth a small investment!
  4. Old World Christmas ornaments makes several aquarium themed ornaments, I have my eye on the neon tetra, myself.
  5. I have a thin sponge attached with zip ties on my skimmer. All black so its barely noticable.
  6. Ah, I never even thought about the shrimp predating on eggs! I haven't really seen much from the fish in the 2ish months since I brought them in, but the 10ish fry are growing well. Think I might try it, flip aquatics is having a sale, worst case scenario i have a gorgeous clean up crew!
  7. I'm in Wisconsin, so thats not an option for me, lol. I realize you barely see them, but do you know if the shrimp are breeding well with the rice fish? They don't seem like they'd actively hunt them, but, hey, a meals a meal.
  8. I realize I'd lose a few shrimplets, but the rice fish's mouths seem too small to eat anything larger than that.
  9. Does anyone do a combo Rice fish/ cherry shrimp combo tank? I have gold rice fish wintering in a 20 gallon that spent the summer outside (will go back outside next summer). I heard cherrys can summer outside too, and though it would be cool to have both. Pictured is current setup.
  10. I'm a meat and seafood (don't tell the fish) manager for a local division of a national grocery chain.
