  1. Yup Im sure it stayed wet in the cannister. Will keep a close eye the next few days on parameters
  2. I have had 2 male swordfish in a 20G and it didn't work.... no experience with Platys but would assume behavior is quite similar between these two.
  3. Something very stupid... I changed some water on Monday afternoon and just realized this morning I forgot to plug in the filter again so my tank has been without filtration for about a day and a half in total. Good thing is I only have 2 neon tetras in it right now but still pretty stupid. Also the stemplant in the middle, left from the Java fern got loose and it seems its roots have rotted away so prob going to loose this plant. Weird as it was growing ..
  4. Posting an update pic of one week later. Clearly now I see growth in most plants. I really like the Hygger light with sunrise/sunset feature and between putting it on and adding fertilizer growth really starts to catch on. PH is still a bit on the low side but changing each day about 15% with (hard) tap water.
  5. Yup... those! I had the option to choose between either 1 L236 super white or a pair of L136 - and since I don't like the super whites I went with these. I will share pics once they arrive, somewhere by end of the week I think.
  6. Yup super happy. I think I can find a few more so prob looking to build a group of 4-5 and lets see if I can get them breeding!
  7. I took part in a lottery of a WhatsApp group of breeders here in Spain and won a pair of L136B of around 3cm each!!! They will arrive somewhere next week! Sex unknown as they are very young but will be looking to expand them to a little group and try to breed them.
  8. Shot a pic of these 2 fellas hanging out in my Cube. And went to the LFS for some bio media to fill my Fluval 207 up a bit more.
  9. I own bot the 107 and the 207 (2x) What I like (compared to my Eheim experiences in the past) - Ease of maintenance with the trays and the prefilter, easy to clean, slot in easy again etc - No issue in restarting them after having them opened up, something was usually a struggle with Eheim. The hand primer works well though feels flimsy - Quiet What I don't like: - Agreed on the amount and quality of the supplied media and its something I am going to swap out to. Just not sure yet what to put in the top basket on the 207 - The ribbed tubing are hard to handle and horrible to keep clean - The way the tubing clips on the aquarium top is just a joke... impossible to put on well with a rimless aquarium and always end up at the angle you don't want - Agree with you on the inflow pipe, its impossible to put it on the glass due to the angle and width of the plastic hose clips. - Agree with you on the outflow pipe... it just hangs loose in the aquariums for now - I have one tank with a 207 and a spray bar, due to how the outflow pipe comes into the tank its very fiddly to put right. Plus the cheapest I found was about 25 Euro for a F-ing sprayer... a 30cm tube with a few wholes and a few suction cups... Seriously???
  10. I received the Fluval 207 for my L numbers breeding tank today and set it up. It's my 3rd 07 filter (got one 107 and now two 207s) so am familiar with how to set it up.... but this one just wouldn't go. Had to take it apart 3 times and it seems the rotor shaft was a bit stuck? Anyway its working after a bit of a fight. No pics Oh and I re-watched Cory and Dean's unboxing video after Dean's first Peru trip - one of my all time favorites!
  11. I have the following here (all used, none are new so not sure how effective still): - Tropica premium nutrition Plant care "contains iron and all other important trace elements" - Natur Gro Azoo Plant Premium - Hobby Plant fit " balanced ratio of iron, potassium and trace elements - free of phosphates" All 3 seem to be an all in one type fertilizer I feel . Thanks for your advice and suggestions Nabakov!
  12. Update after around two weeks of planting plants. I see slight growth with one or 2 of them but the majority doesn't seem to grow very much which is a bit disappointing but also 0 algae as far as I can see. I am hoping the new light will help a bit as well with plant growth. I did some watertests> PH (strip) : 7 PO4 (drops): <0.02 NO2: 0.05 NO3: 0 I don't have an FE test but prob makes sense to get one and see. Should I start adding something to increase the Phosphate a bit? I am adding Seachem Flourish advance right now on a (almost) daily basis
  13. I bought a Hygger HG999 light with WRGB leds and 24/7 programming mode, 1720Lumens. Thinking it will be an upgrade from my white led Nicrew unit I had in the past with a timer clock. I went for the standard programming suggested by Hygger which is the following: start time / end time / light intensity 0600-0800 - 10% 0800-1000 - 50% 1000-1200 - 80% 1200-1400 - 100% 1400-1600 - 80% 1600-1800 - 50% 1800 - 2000 - 10% You can also do a fixed day and night schedule but the gradual one seems better to me. Let's see how the plants react and if I see any algae coming before tweaking further with it. If it becomes to complex to figure out how to adjust, I might revert back to a simple on/off schedule.
  14. Cant say I am a fan of the ribbed tubing.... makes it hard to clean!
  15. Its a bit annoying to do with the ribbed hosing to be honest yeah. Next time will use hot water as well!
  16. So update on this one. Today was maintenance day and I cleaned the 107 and also for the first time in a year or so I cleaned the tubes..... OH MY GOD how much crap came out of those, incredible! That alone might be the source of my nagging brown algae issues. After thorough cleaning and putting everything back together I started thinking whether I should have cleaned the tubes with aquarium water instead of doing it with the tap and sink... I guess it doesn't matter as the filter itself is fully seasoned.
  17. Anything with 'Swordtails' automatically peaks my interests! I don't think I can find any of your suggestions here in Europe but they sure look cool!
  18. Got a new tank .... 60x35x38cm (23.6x13.8x15 inch) and 80L (a little over 21G) 6mm glass and rimless. Plan for this one is to keep it mostly bare bottom, put in perhaps a Java Fern or Anubias and I want to have a small colony of small Lnumbers - depending on what I can find here in Spain, perhaps L397 or similar size Hypancistrus or Peckoltia pleco up until more or less 110mm size. I know a source who grows L333 but they might end up a tad big to hold a group of 5 Got a spare Aquclear HOB kicking around, plus this might be a good tank to try again my luck with one of the Ziss filters I have for added bio filtering.
  19. Thanks Schuyler, I think you have a point and I probably should just leave it as is. I am not exactly a newbie but still struggle to understand doing the right things (except for waiting to put fish) with new setup tanks, and have a history of issues with brown algae i am trying to avoid. For sure the substrate drilled down the PH as it hovers around 6ish. Ruud is my first name and is a typical Dutch name (I am Dutch but living in Spain) , so I am guessing a Dutch dude called Ruud Wildekamp first encountered and described the specie. I had to look it up, looks to be some sort of Killifish, really pretty!
  20. Thanks Nabokov! The noise of the air pump annoys me as I have my tanks in my home office. I have tried several different ones, all are noisy so rather go without! Also I ordered a Hygger HG999 light, which has RGBW and sunrise/sunset options. My current light is only BW so expecting positive impact on plant growth from this as well.
  21. Pretty cool thread... I am juggling the same though, putting some breeding tanks in the garage. But have to isolate first as its very cold in winter and humid, and need to rework electricity a bit. You can do a lot with a handful of 10G and have fun! Keep it going, i am following! Ruud
  22. Gosh there is lots I am still doing wrong. Most likely I overfeed (hence my usual algae problem), I tend to overstock just because I love fish too much, can't choose and don't have enough tanks lol. I don't vacuum clean enough and keep the heater and filter on while doing water changes. And yes I suck the hose. For the cleaners under us... what is the best way to clean glass above the waterline, to get rid of the accumulated minerals etc? I am scared to use something like vinegar with the tank up and running and fish in it.
  23. Just see this was originally posted in General section as I was requesting suggestions for stocking the cube back in the day. Perhaps an Admin can move this to the Photo/Journal section?
  24. So this tank is going to get a complete make over once I have my 100L fully cycled and moved some fish from the Cube to there. I want to put in plant substrate, better lighting and get it nicely planted. Right now with the fine sand my plants are just suffering, plus I have some bb algae so won't show a full shot of the tank But today while cleaning I shot some photo's from some of the fish in here. Its a bit over crowded at the moment as I am reshuffling tanks: L213 Ancistrus My Lemon Tetra's Sterbai Cories!
  25. So today I removed some biofilm from the wood and the glass, and did a 30% water change with tap water to up the PH level a bit. I also installed a spray bar on the back glass, but looking to maybe change it to the side glass (which means I need to cut a bit off it) as it makes water changes with the filter on a bit messy. I'd like to get rid of the ayirstone, hoping the sprayer will provide sufficient oxygen (thoughts?) As of right now the tank looks like this:
