  1. I believe you mean distilled water, basically ro water. You can find a gallon for $1-2 I believe. I still recommend trying to find a used ro system.
  2. 10 gallon should be efficient to breed hillstream loaches. Just have some flow not a strong flow and gravel.
  3. You could try changing and moving things around in the tank with the fish out and then put them back in with the lights out and see if thats works. Not guaranteed though
  4. Plecos can be very territorial and putting a bn pleco in with the phantom pleco already marking its territory is not the smartest choice.
  5. Are your water parameters okay? Clamped fins can mean poor water quality.
  6. I do not believe that having 8.4 will be an issue. If its a long acclimation and no rapid changes in water parameters your shrimp should be fine. Try to get shrimp locally.
  7. Can aquarium salt also work while i wait for expel P, or no?
  8. I notice these red strings that come out everytime my angelfish spawn, is this something to be worried about?
  9. That one neon kinda looks like a green neon, the red looks less red compared to the others, but that could be because of the camera
  10. Looks like cory eggs to me. But looks like they aren't fertilized because they are solid white and not clear
  11. I would put a south american mix of angelfish, some bottom dwellers(rams, apistos, corydoras),some tetras would also look great. Im against discus because yes it is a tall tank, but also discus like some swim space, a longer tank, something like a 55 gallon.
  12. Depends on what plant you want ro raise, most plants will grow well in any water so raising hardness will not affect plants. For snails a gh of 8 and a kh of 12 is at least a minimum for them to be healthy. Snails prefer the harder water so adding equlibrium will buffer the water, or adding crushed coral.
  13. Day 2 Made my pair 2 tank a little more comfortable still no sign of spawning, pair 1 in the other hand look like spawning soon, I see their tube but not extended all the way out.
  14. I only cull the ones that are missing ventral fins. Some of my fry has that so I cull those.
  15. Very nice looking gbrs, looks darker then the average gbr. Looks like a slight blue black Wow very nice colors for a young pair.
  16. powder blue is very similar to electric blue but the powder blue has a more whiter blue and the ebr tend to have yellow heads while powder blue have a dark orange color head
  17. Looks like no one has done a midnight ram breeding journal so I will be the first! I have two pairs of dark knight rams, or "midnight" rams. I have one pair that I recently put in my community tank and another pair in my 10 gallon. The pair that I have in my community is the direct strain of coralbandit strain, for the second pair I am not 100% sure but still is a midnight ram. I have been conditioning these pairs with blood worms, flakes, white worms, live bbs, and brine shrimp. My pair in the community tank look like they are going to spawn soon while the one in my 10 gallon is still arguing with each other... Do remember midnights are highly aggressive, lets just call my community pair pair 1, and my 10 gallon pair, pair 2. Pair 2 had killed the dither fish I had put for them which was very surprising to see.. Lets hope that I can see some breeding action again after my first failed breedings with them before..
  18. This is a picture to help identify rams for some people. I am also interested of buying some powder blue rams if anyone has any! Also, the "wild" ram is just your blue ram. Dark rams are also called blue black rams.
  19. Currently also have two midnight pairs each in a 10 gallon. If you want some good plants, I recommend guppy grass, grows in any lighting, and provides cover for the rams.
  20. Plecos are algae eaters when they are very young, once they grow to teens they stop, and mostly feed on wood or protien. Never seen an teen-adult pleco touch algae
  21. The float and drop method should be fine and it should not harm the fish. For the quaratine tank there is no need to cycle in my opinion, most medications used for the quaratine kill the bacteria so aeration and daily wc should help. I also do not recommend feeding them the first day they arrive, they might be a bit stressed so I recommend feeding the next day. There is also no need to add anything into the tank keeping it bare is more simple and easier to clean.
  22. Yes the white eggs you see are not fertilized and will fungus up. There is really nothing you could do with helping because it is the male who fertilizes the eggs, if the pair is still young it will take the male a couple more tries to getting better at fertilizing the eggs. The best thing you could do is just leave it in with the parents and see how they raise up the eggs or eat them. If they do hatch and start free swimming feed them tiny foods like hikari first bites, strained boiled egg water, or micro worms, daphnia might be a bit too big for them to consume until they grow a little bigger.
  23. Bettas can be odd fish indeed, but if your betta looks like its "struggling" against the flow of the hob then it might be too strong.
  24. Only time you should add root tabs in is when your plants are dying or turning brown. I put my root tabs under the roots or close to the roots below the substrate at least 2 inches.
