  1. I breeded Endlers Live bearers which are a close relative of the guppy for awhile and this is what I learned. 1. I chose to raise the fry in the same tank as the parents (this tank was also my community tank) I picked water lettuce to serve as their "hiding plant". The long roots protected them pretty well from the parents and other fish, the lettuce also doubled as a fry feeder due to the tiny algea and organisms that live on them. 2. Dont buy fry food, if you have any kind of pellets or micro pellets you can grind that up into a powder then sprinkle that away from where the other fish are feeding. 3. Be ready to find a store to sell them to or to give them away. I started out with 4 and ended up with 45, I eventually donated them to a LFS but you could also try to sell them to one. Hope this helps.
  2. OMG I have been fascinated by pygmy sunfish for awhile now. You should really think about starting a journal, your specimens are absolutely stunning.
  3. @TonyRs5That is .25 mg/l or ppm correct? If so it's not catastrophic but definitely not good for long term health. I think that if you boil your water it should remove some of the ammonia, a more expensive alternative would be an R/O unit. From what I know ammonia is pretty hard to get out of tap water, some cities will add it to help with the water treatment process so its pretty dissolved into the water at that point. Hope this helps.
  4. I had a LFS that claimed to be selling a type of miniaturized discus. The guy told me that they grow to be about 5-6 inches, this to me is somewhat believable but now that I think about it @Brandon pI think that 2 inches is a little much. The years of selective breeding required and the time consumption needed would be huge. Thats also not to mention that biologically speaking i'm not sure its possible to shrink a fish 6/8th of its normal size and maintain hardiness and shape. If these do end up working for you then you could revolutionize discus fish-keeping but just be prepared if it doesnt.
  5. I know some paints such as acrylic are "aquarium safe" after soaking for a week. One important thing to note about non toxic paint is that there is less of an issue with the "paint" being toxic, (although it differently will leach in the beginning) and more of an issue with it flaking and the fish ingesting it. I don't really have a paint to recommend but thought i'd give you my $.02
  6. Wow those are really cool. How big do they get?
  7. Its in Edmond's Washington so quite a ways from you, they do have an online store though where you can purchase almost everything they sell besides fish.
  8. I know the ship is in a remarkable state. I'm trying to figure out what type of metal the "edurance" text is made of. In the article it appears that the metal survived extremely well. I wonder if it might be gold although that would probably have been relatively expensive at the time... I cant wait to see what kinds of maps, charts, and artifacts they are able to pull from the main cabin. It will be fascinating to compare historical geological makeups to ones today.
  9. Hyperspace is similar and the argument relies on string theory. String theory is an attempt to show that the universe is made up of 1 dimensional "strings". While the hyperspace theory says that the universe is made up of 10 dimensions, apparently this model falls apart due to a lot of mathematical problems. But a different theory the "superstring theory" provides a solution by combining the hyperspace and string theory. This is the center of the book attempting to combine both to show how the superstring theory could unify all laws of the universe.
  10. Hi fellow nerms and history fans, I recently saw that they discovered Shackleton's ship that sunk in 1915 in the Weddell sea. The story of him and his crew is absolutely fascinating and is a great reminder of the power of perseverance. Here's the article I read about, feel free to share your thoughts on this amazing discovery.
  11. I'm currently reading "Hyperspace" by Michio Kaku Its an excellent book about the hyperspace theory, which seeks to explain and unify all of the physical laws in the universe.
  12. Do you know how many gallons your tank is? Also how many of the other tetras do you have?
  13. @TheDukeAnumber1 Oops, Sorry I thought the main question was for gluing something small inside an aquarium not attaching something structurally... Thanks for correcting
  14. True. I have a 29 gallon with endlers, I started out with 5 and now I have 20+ still trying to find a store or family that is wiling to take em.
  15. It seems that most of this bill is just related to "economic productivity" and increasing domestic production. The only topics that could effect us are mostly concerned with stopping trafficking, preventing future pandemics and illegal wildlife trade. It seems that trafficking and illegal trade shouldn't do anything to prevent fish from being imported. Although it may cause the number to drop due to more enforcement and perhaps illegal practices being prevented. Future pandemics is mostly related to animal testing and livestock control, so it may or may not effect us.
  16. It usually happens to me after a couple of months of operation. It doesnt really hurt anything but I clean all the internal parts of my sponge filters ,and replace the tubing connecting the air stone every 4 months.
  17. I carefully spray windex on a few crumpled up newspapers, the newspaper strategy my dad taught me and I still use it. It surprisingly leaves behind no streaks every single time I clean glass.
  18. Today's wordle was interesting... I hope this continues to be free I just heard it was bought by the NYT.
  19. Welcome to the hobby. I started out the same as you with a kit from a big box store, I eventually just decided to do away with the hob and replace it with a spine filter. There is definitely nothing wrong with using both I just prefer the simplicity. Depending on the hood of your tank you may want to modify it, mine had a space cut out for the hob I ended up just covering it with taped on clear plastic lol.
  20. For a food source this might be one of the best, I would definitively not put the fry in there though.
  21. Seems to be working fine on my end.
  22. I find that most seem to enjoy the hikari micro pellets, or hikari vibra bites for the finicky eaters.
