  1. I have been watching them closely. I actually found 3 of them all tucked away in the gravel. I saw one on the glass and a Molly came up and snatched it off the glass and spit it out.
  2. RyanU

    Is this ich

Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate between 20 and 40 Ph 7.0-7.2 Temp 76 f Is this ich? If so how can I treat the tank. I have plants, baby and adult mystery snails, 1 baby Molly fry, some ottos and a bn pleco. Also some mollies cherry barbs, danios and Cory cats Sorry for the upside down cloudy pics. I developed a bacterial bloom a couple days ago.
  3. What if I mixed. Neon, cardinal, ember rummy nose and lemon
  4. Thanks for all the input. I think a tetra tank wood be cool. How many could I put in there.
  5. I like the community theme but I would like to have some very vibrant fish. My wife is gracious enough to let me get another tank so I figured I should take her request into the tank. She would like colorful fish. I know you can get that with cichlids but that would be all I can put in the tank
  6. Quick question. Some of the snails got knocked out of the breeder box. I manged to find one this morning on some gravel. Should I move it back into the breeder box for safety or just let it be.
  7. Yea. And for snails and shrimp that will work. As the hard water will help their shells. The CPDs like harder water too. Cory's on the other hand don't like hard water. I remember something that cory said in one of his videos. Fish can adapt to one parameter that is out of tolerance if every thing else is in check. The Cory's may be OK but I would do some more research on that. Maybe ask you source for the Cory's what the water parameters are and see how close it is to yours. You could also lower the kh with RO water and supplement the snails and shrimp with calcium for their shells
  8. Alkalinity is kh just measured differently. Alkalinity is measured in ppm and kh is measured in degrees. I degree of kh is equal to 17.9 ppm. So if you divide 210 by 17.9 you will get your degrees of hardness. Which is about 12 kh
  9. It actually works the other way. Higher KH means means less PH swing. So you know what your kh is?
  10. That should work. I think it's better to do that with out fish in the tank as the quick ph swing can have effects on the fish. Get your ph down to seven and monitor it for a couple days then start adding your fish slowly. Monitor your parameters closely and you should be OK
  11. The seeded sponge is a good start but with nothing in the tank to feed them the bacteria will eventually die. I would put the sponge back in the tank you got it from until you are ready to stock the tank.
  12. I plan on setting up a 75 gallon tank in the near future and was going to let the aquariumcoop forum build it. Everything from substrate and decor to filtration, live stock and lighting. I would like to have live plants and a lot of color. Ready go....
  13. I agree with @Solidus1833. I would make sure your tank is cycled. If your using fritz products already i belive there has a product to do a fish less cycle. If you already have the fish and snails in the tank all is not lost you are just going to have to do a lot more monitoring of your tank. I would make sure you have a good supply of prime to detoxify the ammonia and do water changes as necessary to keep ammonia and nitrite below 1ppm.
  14. OK. Some I vacuum the gravel each time or no. Let's say I do 30% today with vacuum do 30% Tuesday with no vacuum. Then 30% with vacuum Thursday and see we're I'm at. Some I add stability with the water Changes as well
  15. Another question about the bacterial bloom. If I do a large water change say 75% with a gavel vac will that help remove the bloom or make it worse.
  16. What causes a bacterial bloom like that all of a sudden.
  17. How long should I expect it to last.
  18. Update on the murky water. The purigen took out the tannins within 24 hours. Thank you for the advice on that. If has now been 48 hours and I still have this white haze. What could be the problem. I ran all my water tests this morning Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate between 20 and 40 Ph 7.0 to 7.2 I also replaced my fine filter floss this morning. How long on average does it take for all the particulates to filter out. Is it possible my filter can't handle the tank. (Tank was a starter kit they included the filter) I modified the filter by replacing the cartridge and adding coarse foam, filter floss, bio rings and purigen for that tannins
  19. It's been running for a few months. It's definitely cycled. I was going to give the tank another 24 hours to see if the haze is still there. If it is then I guess it's a bacterial bloom. what can I do to get rid of it? I did a pretty thorough cleaning this past weekend trying to combat brown algea so it may be from that. I did check this morning and my ammonia and nitrites are both 0.
  20. It's a little hard to tell from the picture but it does look like a male. When the top dorsal fun is extended look at the back portion. If it's pointed at the top is a male. If it's rounded female
  21. I have a question about rinsing anything that you put in your tank. Specifically filter media that is new out of the box. Is it OK to rinse it under tap water. If so what is the process after to make it aquarium safe. I just added purigen to my tank last night to remove the tannins from drift wood. I took some tank water and rinsed it as best I could. I woke up this morning with no tannins but a whiteish hhaze.i can assume from not riding the purigen well enough. TIA
  22. That tank looks awesome. I'm sure with one betta your survival rate will be pretty good. My main tank has mollies which eat everything in sight and a gouarmi which does the same. I had some Molly fry hatch a few weeks ago I can assume and didn't realize it. When I was cleaning my tank this weekend I saw one lone survivor that's about the size of a pinky nail in length. Being my first viable clutch i wanted to try and save as many as I can. From Wendy I can count it looks like I have about 30.
  23. OK. Can I assume that if they are clinging to the side they are still alive and will fall off of they die
