  1. If you want to add more oddball fish you could get an African butterfly fish or a leopard bush fish. Both aren't very demanding, though I have a bush fish that only started eating dry foods after a couple of months, and he only eats flake food. As for bottom dwellers, I'm always a huge pleco fan. Maybe you could some albino and/or longfin bristlenose plecos? That might spark the interest of them for some basic genetics. Clown loaches are also pretty nice and entertaining.
  2. I know my tapwater has a ph of 7,8, but it's soft and has a very low kh. That's especially bad, cause if you have any sort of log, coconut hut or Indian almond leaf in the tank the ph drops from 7,8 to 5-6,5 in about 24h, which can be challenging. Products like seachem natural regulator work way too well and have a much larger impact that it's supposed to have
  3. So this morning a purple spotted gudgeon I've had for the past week or 2 developed this white opaque thing around its head and eyes. It has grown in the last few hours and while it was really active in the morning, it's now acting lethargic. Does anyone know what is that and how to treat it?
  4. I used to have a huge hydra problem in my fry tanks, then I used fembendazole sold as a dog dewormer (1 drop for every 6 gallons, single use), and all my hydra and planaria disappeared. Never seen either again in any of my tanks
  5. I have L333, L168 and peckoltia braueri plecos. I love them all and think they are gorgeous. Now, my L333s are a bit tough on plants sometimes and liked to eat my vallisnerias, but I had no issues with the other ones
  6. Update: some fry has been dying every day, but that has now that they are a bit bigger, it stabilized. I don't know what happened though. My guess is I couldn't keep the water parameters in my half gallon ice cream tub stable enough, but I'm not sure. I do 30% water changes daily and put in water from a seasoned aquarium. Here is a Pic from one of the fry.
  7. My Congo tetras, which aren't nearly as active as those are very similar when spawning, so my guess would be yes
  8. I had a similar problem with plecos. Try going to the planet catfish website and posting there. There are some experts in plecos who might be able to help you. And yes, those are gorgeous plecos indeed
  9. Good idea, thanks! Here are the links to those videos (This is the first time i've ever uploaded a video to youtube, so i might have messed something up. Also, sorry for the multiple comments. I got excited 😄
  10. Another update: Yes, they are definitely breeding. I managed to clearly film them them scattering (and then eating) eggs. Any way I can post the video here? I'm getting there would be a few ppl who would like to see that over here
  11. Update: Apparently they are already breeding in my tank???? I have the supposed male doing it on video with 2 different females, but I don't think I can upload a video
  12. This one has a much darker body than the rest and looks like it's waking a white lipstick. Maybe it's a male? (it's the only one though) Any guesses?
  13. Thanks for the compliment and the tips! For the future, is there anything I can do if I ever get another fish that that is little to no record of being kept in captivity?
  14. So this apparently newly discovered tetra showed up in a fish store where I live and I purchased a school of 6. Theres quite literally no I formation whatsoever on the internet about them, not even basic stuff, like water parameters. I am treating them like normal tetras and they seem to be doing fine (they are A LOT more active than your average tetra, being as active as zebra danios, for example). I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of them or kept them? Sorry about the bad quality of the pics. They are really hard to photograph, since they never stand still
  15. I got mine as daphnia magna. Not sure if it helps
  16. Both points seem to be very interesting. I'll try putting some daphnia in with tapwater and my tetra declorinator and see what happens
  17. If you are not sure about this, you could put bristlenose plecos. They are also pretty decent algae eaters, but much bigger and sturdier
  18. I have kept daphnia for a while, for one reason or another I sometimes would rather not use aged aquarium water for them. Does anyone know if tapwater with some water conditioner can be used for this purpose?
  19. Update: Fry are developing, but still small. Had a lot of casualties, but still have maybe 50-100 fry left. They eat A TON. I switched to Hikari first bites and in the morning they are completely transparent, but get huge bellies all day after I feed them. I put an old glass lid next to where the couple spawned last time and of course, they completely ignored it and once again, spawned in the same place....
  20. At least guppies don't have very many babies at once. I decided to raise angelfish eggs separately and now have 200+ babies that I don't have a place for lol
  21. Yeah, I forgot to say that, but I do weekly water changes. Hope that makes more sense 🙂
  22. Thank you for this explanation. It really helps a lot! My tank is 16 inches wide and 36 inches long
  23. Thanks for the response! I'll now know what to look for in the behavior my fish. As for the filtration, I have a canister filter which holds a ton of bio rings and has a circulation of about 7x the volume of the tank per hour. I also have a powerhead connected to 2 largo sponge filters for extra circulation, biological filtration and oxygenation. This powerhead has a circulation of 4x the volume of the tank per hour. I feed my fish heavily and ammonia and nitrites are always 0. I used to measure nitrates before water changes, but even when I'd feed heavily for a week the nitrates would never go past 30-35ppm. I always do a 60% water change. I also have an air pump with an air stone for extra circulation, since I have some plecos that are very demanding regarding the amount of dissolved 02 in the water
