  1. HI All! Last post I made was just 6 days ago which was an update on my aquarium that is doing so well. Well, it looks like we are going to be moving across country. What do we do with our Aquarium and fish? We're looking to move to Raleigh, NC from Seattle area. Looks like there's some good stores in Raleigh!
  2. Picked up 3 small assassin snails this morning and dropped them into the tank. It's been a few hours and I don't see them anywhere, but I look forward to watching them in the tank.
  3. My husband said I could just move the one Mystery snail into the other tank and then once the assassin snails have cleared on the one tank I can switch them. I only have two Mystery Snails. One is really odd and I'm not sure he's ok. His shell has fractured quite a bit and is often laying on the substrate with part of his body out but not moving. When I go back to check a couple of hours later he's usually moving again.
  4. Isaac will the go after my one big mystery snail?
  5. I was wondering about that? I am not sure where I can get those. Can I get them at Aquarium Coop?
  6. It's a 29 gallon tank and I have 3 cories. I think I'd like to get 2 more. But I'm trying to decide if I want to get something that eats snails in there too. Everything is doing really well, so I don't want to throw off anything.
  7. Well I have been working for a few minutes to try and figure out how to upload a video here and then just gave up and copy and pasted the URL and that did it! Oh well.... Anyway, here is my aquarium today! After starting 4 months ago, very poorly, my aquarium has come along quite nicely. I have Guppies, Julie Catfish, Neon Tetras, Ember Tetras, Snails, 1 cherry Shrimp, Platty's, A Common Pleco, lots of plants, and everyone seems to be doing ok. I can't believe where I started with all fake plants to where I am now. We really enjoy our tanks and appreciate all the help I have gotten.
  8. HI All, When I set up my tank I originally put in pebbles, in varying sizing from tiny to nickle size from the pet store. When I was there I could not find any sand to put in the tank. Turned out it was in the next aisle over. Oops. When I look at beautiful aquariums they usually either have sand OR rocks as the substrate and not a mixture of both. Is it possible to add sand into the substrate of a tank that has pebbles to make it look good? I did add sand by hand into my 5 gallon tank, and I'm not really sure if it looks good or not. It's my grow out tank, so I just slowly brought in handfuls. My 29 gallon tank has a ton of fish in it though so if I want to add sand it will be kind of hard with all the fish in it. I do think the plants are doing better in my 5 gallon tank now that I have added some sand.
  9. HI All, I bought this clip on light from Amazon for my 5 gallon tank. It's not adjustable at all, and I would like to adjust how much light and what kind of light I am putting on it. I'm also continually struggling with algae in this tank because it's a fry tank so I leave the light on for a long time, but it's so bright. My duckweed loves this light though and I have to clear out half of it every other day or it would cover the whole tank. Any suggestions for an adjustable light for my 5 gallon? https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B087ZWBVC4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  10. I must have my counts wrong, because I thought I was missing the ember not the neon. Monitoring the fish now. This guy was floating up in my duckweed so kind of hard to see.
  11. HI All, I was sitting watching my tank today after feeding and realized there was a fish floating at the top. I hope he wasn't gone for too long, he's lost a lot of his color, so I'm assuming it's an Ember Tetra based on the dorsal fin shape. I also don't think I am missing any Neon Tetra's, just 1 Ember. I checked the Ammonia levels and they are near zero. I didn't check the other levels because I think they are all ok. All the other fish are swimming normally. Any idea what could have happened?
  12. Ok. I lied. My parents wanted to see Aquarium Coop so we went back up there today and got four more Guppies. BEAUTIFUL guppies. Now I'm done....
  13. I don't have a pond, but Rock Mountain is about a mile from my house here in unincorporated Redmond, and they look like they have great stuff. Just wanted to put it out there as an option. https://www.rockmountain.com/
  14. Stopped by Aquarium Coop today and got 4 Platy's today to add to my tank. I now have Guppies, Neon Tetra's, Ember Tetra's, Julli Catfish, A Pleco, Snails, 2 Cherry Shrimp and Platy's. I think my tank is full and pretty well rounded now..... Until next time.
  15. Well. That got me googling the correct thing and got the aerator removed. Thanks. Just trying to talk him into that third tank, and need a functioning faucet nearby!
  16. Oh! Actually it does look like python has an adapter that would even work with the faucet we bought that doesn't have the removable aerator. Although my husband does not like the idea of not being able to remove and clean it.
  17. HI All! (I swear this has to do with my aquarium.) We've been redoing our bathroom, which is next to our aquarium's and the primary source for cleaning the tanks. We just discovered the faucet we're planning on using doesn't have the option to hook up my vacuum. The part in the middle of the faucet won't come out. So now we're trying to figure out what kinds of faucets would have that part the comes out so I can attach the vacuum up to it. But I don't know what that part is called so when I look on websites I can't tell if it has the option to pull that out or not. So what I would like to know is do you what that part is called and what to look for? This bathroom has been not nice for years and years, and we're trying to make it look nice and make it functional for the aquarium. Any help would be appreciated.
  18. Mine lays a huge clutch every few days. It's crazy. I keep just cleaning it up.
  19. I adjusted my light schedule yesterday and then my husband killed the power to the bathroom, and I didn't realize they were on the same circuit so it came on at 4am today....... UGHHHHHHH!!!!!! Just fixed the time on the timer. Next time he does that we'll know.
  20. UGH! So glad I have this forum. We got the bubble LED thing for free with the rest of the tank, and when we first got it, a couple of the lights were not working and now I think only 3 or 4 work, so it's very little light but I'll monitor it just in case. A couple of my plants have grown very tall, and thin, different then the way they were when I bought them, and I wonder if it's because of the light being on so much.
  21. I just changed the timer. I can't remember why exactly I changed it from 6pm to 8pm, but I know we like to look in the evening as well, so I just changed it to 1pm to 8pm for the main bar light, and I changed the strip LED light which is just a few colored lights to 8am to 1pm. There's only a few lights on there that work and they are all colored so I don't think they'll be an issue. I have a dual timer on this tank. I read that the grow out tank needs at least 12 hours of light is that right? Wrong?
  22. Oh interesting. I have the lights on from 8am until 8pm. So that sounds like I have them on way too long to start with. I think I changed it like a month ago from 6pm to 8pm by accident now that I think about it.
  23. HI All! I watched Cory's video last night of different Algae eaters. I had no idea that hair algae was a thing, I just thought it was me not doing the right thing for my tank. I'd like to add a fish that will eat Hair Algae off my plants. I currently have Guppies, Neon Tetras, Ember Tetras, Juli Catfish, A Pleco, 2 Cherry Shrimp, and snails in my tank. What would be a good friendly fish or two to add to my tank that will eat the Hair Algae? I attempted to take pictures of my beautiful guppies yesterday. These are the best pictures I could get. I wish they'd sit still for a bit. 🙂 I have one really big female that you cans see in the first picture. She and the guy with the blurry yellow tale in the second picture are my first two surviving guppies. The rest were given to me by a neighbor and I LOVE their colors. There's an orange leopard-y tail and another guy with a sunset tail. They are still getting their colors on their bodies. It's so neat to see them change. Then there are several blackish ones with larger tails. Some of them are getting orange coloring on their bodies too. All my fish seem to be doing well. I'm so pleased.
  24. Yeah, I don't really have room to breed any for specific colors so our mystery guppies are pretty great. I did send a link to our neighbor who does have room to breed and planted the seed. I love the idea of them mixing together to get new color combos.
