  1. It’s SPAAAAIIIIINNNN!!!!! Beating the Dutch is no small matter. I knowingly observe: FC Barcelona Femini are represented en masse. Special night for #18
  2. FIFA WWC, ESP 🇪🇸 vs NED 🇳🇱 happening now. Dangerous teams! I like Spain a lot…
  3. I do not know the species well. Just do some careful research.
  4. I’ve never done anything that large. I’m estimating that in at well over over a ton, right? I like thick plywood between the tank and block. I’d just make sure it goes on concrete floor.
  5. Very interesting! I’d probably enjoy nabbing dried Alder leaves & cones nearby, combined with periodic feedings of food #1 from your list. My water is super soft, so I have varied success with shellfish / shrimp / snails etc.
  6. Honestly, I think your fish would be much happier in a 40 breeder or a 55 gal. A 20 gal is _possible_ while your cichlid is _young_. Long term though, it will stress the fish. They get large, and may become very aggressive. Keeping other smaller fish is unlikely to work well -- especially in a small 20 gal. Remember the age-old advice about keeping smaller fish with larger ones: "If it CAN fit into its mouth, eventually it WILL go into its mouth." Last month, I watched my largest Discus eat a dozen Cardinal Tetras in front of my face 😳
  7. My guess is: MULM. In a sense, it is a sort of detritus -- though various aquarists will take offense at that conflation. It is a fascinating set of organic matter that is generally loaded with micro-life. Unfortunately, the bacteria content is generally so high that benthic fish (e.g. Corydoras, Loaches, etc) that swim through it constantly become susceptible to infections. Fish such as Discus are very sensitive to infections because of their mucus slime coat. I've had this situation before. I do not consider it necessarily harmful. But it is a mixed bag. Certain aquarists will swear by mulm -- I've even seen it for sale (e.g. LRB Aquatics). I recommend gently gravel vacuuming it up. Here is an excellent article to read all about it.
  8. This has been going on for awhile today. From breeding other west African dwarf cichlids, I’m pretty sure this is a wriggler relocation project. Females will often determine that babies need to be moved to a safer location…
  9. My best guess is that the high light level that supports algae growth, is conspiring to absorb all of your available CO2, thus raising pH. You could try adding a passive CO2 setup -- an inverted turbidity column, or similar (ca. 100 ml). You fill daily with CO2 from a Soda-Stream system, or similar. I recognize it's tedious . . . and a bit of a kid's science fair show . . . but my son explains this in a video here. Go to timestamp 5:10...
  10. Black Worms are great if you can get them healthy. Here’s a couple videos feeding to our tanks. My son feeding them… Me feeding them… My source is in the 2nd video’s description. Here is how to care for them daily…
  11. From various forums… I think you’re fine. Small amounts may cure very quickly. 24-hrs is a safe zone. Marineland Silicone appears to cure with Acetic Acid. Others cure via Ammonia — which is toxic until fully cured. But… the safe answer is always: WAIT!
  12. Bit of Mr. Sandman, and you can dream of being shrunk small enough to go Tubing inside of an outdoor freshwater Tub, with Swordtails like great red sharks swirling just beneath the surface… 😴🦈🤿
  13. BOOM! Elassoma gilberti fry…
  14. We are the few, the brave, the algae Marines ⚓️🐉
  15. A month ago, I acquired a pair of Nanochromis parilus, west African river dwarf cichlid. Nearest relative would be a Kribensis. But these are slightly more Geophagus-like, benthic, and can act somewhat like Apistos. I set up a grimy, well-established tank. Added a spraybar + venturi, and threw in 2x pairs of Endlers. Here is a video overview… And here is a journal I’m keeping about breeding them…
  16. Nanochromis parilus, Blue Congo Dwarf Cichlid pair guarding a nest… 120 sec. “Trail Cam” spy footage:
  17. Alright @nabokovfan87 let’s do this! We have a small crew. Lead the way… Did you click “follow” at the bottom of this post?
  18. Awesome! I've had good experience with Oase canisters too. I love the rising air. So will your fish!
  19. This is pretty common, actually. KH at 4 is your temporary hardness -- your buffer. If you're not a chemist . . . maybe think of it like a few spoons of Baking Soda dissolved in your tank. When food breaks down and plants decay, there is a creep up in humic acid. Think of this like . . . dilute cider vinegar in your tank. Well, the acid and base subtly react like those old "volcano" projects in grade school. The KH gets neutralized (this is why you're reading KH = 0), and the result is that your pH begins to drift dramatically low. This happens consistently in _all_ of my tanks that don't have ample supplies of limestone, or crushed coral liberally added to the substrate. Good news is that you're probably set up with ideal conditions now for South American species -- dwarf cichlids, tetras, Discus, etc. But African Rift Lake species would probably not thrive.
  20. Glorious! I think that tank want to be loaded up with Rainbow Shiners.
  21. Although they are not marketed as self-priming, I've found AquaClear HOBs to be very reliable. Unless the water level completely drains out of the filter, they'll restart after a power outage. They just won't start if the entire apparatus is _completely dry_. Here is another small thread about it on the CARE FORUM:
  22. Saw this guy up high on a mtn. ridge… Here’s the view just about 200 ft. from where I found him…
  23. Out hawk watching on a mountain this morning… Here’s a very short time-elapse…
  24. Beautiful! I am informed by a serious breeder that all turquoise Hemichromis are hybrids. I did not bother breeding mine because the debate over reliable taxonomic data on Hemichromis is … a hot mess. They would be ineligible for BAP in my club. I bought mine as H. bimaculatus but technically they may be a cross between H. lifalili and H. bimaculatus. No matter what, they’re attractive! Here’s mine before I moved them on…
  25. @WhitecloudDynasty is the best! I’ve never kept panda loaches. Rainbow Shiners are easy. No heater. Add air and flow. They take flakes fine.
