@PluckyD I’ve wondered the same thing. I’ve been tempted to buy them simply because they come from aquarium glaser, but never pulled the trigger.

Ron’s insect mix is far superior to any insect chow on the market. It utilizes 5 different insects rather than 1-2. My fish go bananas for it.

You can do whatever you like, but as far as stocking goes, your hang on back is plenty. Personally I would move my filters and wave makers around the minimize dead spots. You can also add some corydoras or plecos that will kick up any detritus in their area making it easier for the filter to pick up. I’d also make a quick gravel vac part of my weekly routine. This seems like the path of least resistance. Also not sure of the direction of the water, but that large driftwood can and will slow down flow dramatically.

@bryanisag I would think more along the lines of giving them away to a good home. If you try selling it, you’ll most likely just end up with a pet convict.

If I was a betting man, I’d go with genetics being the biggest factor. Your best bet for quality livebearers is dans fish. It’s not the only place, but it’s a good start.

@oogabooga it doesn’t really matter the time, you will consistently have issues with any fish you keep if they don’t feel safe. Please remember stress leads to sick fish.

I’m pretty sure they’re looking into the Kali Tawa’s, although Odessa’s with them would be super cool. Personally, I prefer species only, but that would make a cool combo.

@knee if it solves the illness issues, then it’s worth the wait. Not ideal being you just escaped, but we live and learn.

Agreed with everyone up top, but I will also add Melanotaenia Kali Tawa. They’ll thrive with basically anything else you add, other than extremely sedate fish. They are a bit pricey, but they are spectacular. Top out around 3” and both males and females look incredible which is rare in the rainbow fish world.

@oogabooga without seeing the aquarium, I can tell you that most fish prefer cover whether it be plants, driftwood, floating plants, etc. Without this, most fish will get stressed. Stress can lead to illness. I’d suggest posting a photo of the aquarium and have some of the good people here toss you some ideas. It definitely can’t hurt and notice I addressed it as most fish. There are certain basic rules that come with a bit of experience. One of those being, fish like to feel safe. Also if they are the only fish in the tank, then there’s no other fish to sort of set the mood. 4 is also not an ideal number for a shoaling species, so without knowing the size of the tank, I’d say you should add at least 2-4 more. @Ryan1988 sounds like a solid setup. Just be aware that if pairing off occurs, that 75 will turn real small, real fast. Luckily the Sveni take forever to grow. Post photos of the Sveni whenever you get them. I just acquired 5 that are growing out in my 180.

@knee yes and even if a reinfestation occurred, it still wouldn’t explain the cloudiness. Did you ask Ron if he has had adverse reactions to the combo? It may be a game of percentages. I’m just tossing stuff at the wall and hoping something sticks. Good luck

@knee have you been gravel vac’ing every 2 days? I've also used and swear by that medicated food. I’ve never had any issues. You’ve got me very curious.

Did you add water conditioner/dechlor?

@jwcarlson that’s what I figured. Are we no longer allowed to mention aquahuna? Seems ridiculous but you never know.
