  1. Hello everyone,

I have a 7 gallon tank with only one long-fin male Betta but I wanted to add another tank mate to this tank. What fish are compatible with a betta? I prefer to just add one fish to this tank. I was thinking of adding one Chocolate or Honey Gourami but not sure if these will go well together.

Please share your suggestions! Thank you in advance 🙂

  2. Thank you so much @Lennie and @AllFishNoBrakes 🙂

Here’s my blackwater tank. It started as a shrimp only tank about 3 years ago. Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been loading it up with botanicals and tannins:

In person it looks much darker. I’m really diggin’ this tank and trying something new has been really fun

Wow, This is a very pretty tank! Love it!  This is the look I want in my cube tank

  3. Hello fishkeepers,

I will be setting up my first 7 gallon blackwater cube tank for my one betta.

I wanted to know if you can use Aquarium soil or organic potting mix soil topped with a thin layer of sand in a Blackwater tank or should sand only be used?

I heard something about that gasses can build up in the substrate so I want to make sure I create a safe environment and not cause any issues for my betta.

    Thank you in advance

  4. Hello everyone,

I'm a beginner and I will be getting this upcoming week for the first time a betta and I wanted to use soil as my substrate to set-up a  planted aquarium. What substrate do you guys recommend that is Inert and will provide good plant growth? I have soft water which is why I want an inert substrate.

    Thank you in advance

Epistylis feeds off the gram negative bacteria on your fish this causes secondary bacterial infections that what usually kills your fish the most effective treatment is maracyn2 in food and aquarium salt 1 table spoon for 2 gallons @Tropicalfishkeeping201

Thank you, I have 1 bolivian ram and 1 dwarf flag cichlid, can they tolerate salt?

Do I have to treat the whole tank if its Epistylis or can I just treat the sick fish in a separate tank?

  6. Hello fish keepers!

I was treating this tank for camallanus worms and I have already done 4 doses and haven't seen the worms anymore but was aiming to go for 6 to be sure they don't have any more but now I'm going to have to stop and treat this issue and give them a break from meds. This morning I was looking into my 30 gallon tank and I noticed one of red platy has what I think could be Ick but wanted to ask you guys to confirm if this is Ick. She is the only one that has it so far. She didn't have this yesterday.

If this is Ich, how should I treat it?

Will the medications for Ich kill beneficial bacteria?

I have some adult and young platys, some young mollys, 1 Bolivian Ram, and 1 dwarf flag Cichlid (Laetacara curviceps). I also have 5 small Anubias plants.

    @Colu Is this Ich?

    Thank you in advance.

With BN pleco my general experience has been that females are less likely to hide than males. The females are the one without the bristle (first picture in the above post). The male when fully mature will try to find a cave somewhere (or make one); he will hide in general and retreat quite quickly to his cave when you are around. The female will generally be out. I only have 4 species of pleco but generally speaking the male of all the species i have have been more inclined to hide; so while you might find the male bush or colouring (depending on species) more appealing the female is more likely to be visible in my experience - something to consider.

This is great to know! Thank you!🙂

Try whiptail cats. Lots of species to choose from, some are captive bred. They do not hide all day like most plecos.

Thank you! I will look into these.

  8. Thank you guys for sharing! Really appreciate it! I haven't decided yet on which to pick and how big I want the tank yet but I was leading more towards a rimless tank because I like the look of it. I was thinking of getting a UNS 44 gallon or maybe smaller but I'm going to keep all these things in mind. Thanks again!  @Lennie@Pepere, @Andy's Fish Den, @JettsPapa, @Mmiller2001, @Stef, @Flumpweesel, and @Sweet Fish O Mine

UNS is a quality product and the low iron glass is beautiful. Look to Europe as rimless is quite popular their. I don't see any more stories of leaking than with rimmed. Probably the opposite honestly.

I just bought my first rimless and couldn't be happier. Just buy plenty of Shims and take the time to get it pretty level. An auto leveling mat is needed too. I believe hardware stores sell the same style of foam that many use.PXL_20230314_204038949.jpg.42fdd5e416b67a3d5401e728347eede8.jpg

This tank is awesome!! Where did you get the stand?

  9. Hello guys,

I will be purchasing a new tank soon and can't decide if to get a rimmed or rimless tank. Will a rimless tanks last longer than a rimmed tank or is it more prone for these tanks to leak?

What are your thoughts on the Ultum Nature Systems (UNS) rimless tanks?

I've never owned a rimless tank before but I'm looking for something durable and I wanted to know what are your thoughts on rimless tanks and which do you experienced fish-keepers think is better, rimless or rimmed tanks?

    Thank you in advance
