Nerm Week 2022 Taco Eating Contest Thread!

Hellooooo everyone! Nerm Week will soon be upon us, and that means it’s time to celebrate in the way @Cory likes best… eating tacos! 🌮 😋 🌮

@TheDukeAnumber1 created and ran this contest last year. I’m only slightly modifying the rules, so 99% credit for this wonderful event goes to him.

The rules and guidelines for the contest are below.

- Because they are wide spread Taco Bell crunchy tacos will be the "standard" for acceptable tacos allowed. Other options and home mades will be allowed, but you must weigh your tacos and give them a Taco Equivalent Score (TES). The internet says a Taco Bell crunchy taco weighs 2.9 oz. So to get your TES, weigh your tacos in oz and divide by 2.9.

- To enter the contest, you must post both a before and after photo here in this thread, showing your tacos pre-consumption and one showing the aftermath. This is an on your honor contest that lives on the integrity of the forum members and the before and after photo will generally be accepted. If something seems off about your entry more "proof" may be requested which may include more photos. The only guaranteed proof is a full video which you can record if you wish and provide if needed but it should not be necessary.

- The goal is to eat the most tacos in one sitting. A sitting will be defined as a maximum of 1 hour.

- You can enter the contest any time during NERM week (July 10-16) with final submissions being accepted on July 16th and the winner crowned on the 17th.

Questions? Just ask below!

Happy NERM week! 😃

My spouse just called Taco Bell crunchy tacos a tease, lol.

Our Indian tacos weigh almost a pound😁

I need to buy a scale, or we could just weigh before the meal and after, like breastfeeding babies are weighed?

@Torrey haha that would actually work pretty well, though you’d have to subtract the weight of whatever you drink. 🤔 How much weight in carbon do you think we breathe out in an hour?

Not a sufficient amount to influence the contest, lol

I believe it was 18 tacos. Which makes my intestines hurt just thinking about. 😆

Reluctant Nerm™ (my Patient Spouse™) said for The Loaf™ they would be willing to eat 18 Taco Bell tacos, lol. Then asked if the 3D print @TheDukeAnumber1 had talked about was of Murphy. I had to catch them up on the week, and we both hope everything is going okay for TheDukeAnumber1, and whatever came up is easily resolved. A trip to WA is obviously going to have to include introducing Spouse to Murphy, lol!

If anyone does go with Taco Bell crunchy tacos, do weigh them if you can because I don’t have a ton of confidence in the random internet answer I got when I searched, “how much does a crunchy Taco Bell taco weigh”. 😅

Give me a minute, I'll weigh the left overs, lol

When you marry someone more autistic than you are, all the directions have to followed exactly.

So, we just bought Taco Bell for Saturday night Netflix date night. We started eating at 5 pm mountain, and by 5:32 MST neither of us could take another bite. We watched Puff, to keep the Taco Eating Contest Date Night in theme.

"It's all for the Loaf"

1. (Me) I was coming in to post: Before I started eating the dozen soft tacos (can't do the hard shell ever since covid), the box weighed 69.3 oz (4.32 lbs on my scale). After eating 5.75 soft tacos, the box weighed in at 1.84 lbs (29.44 oz) and I accepted defeat as I could not eat another bite.

Math: 69.30 - 29.44 = 39.86 oz of tacos/5.75 tacos = 6.93 oz/soft taco

2. For the Patient Spouse™ (who selected the movie "Puff" for the evening, and kept eating despite the "w" word being used in the film because "I didn't know worms could be so pretty"), a solid 12.5 tacos were consumed.

To make math easier, I just weighed 10 tacos to assist @Hobbit with the contest.

10 tacos weighed 1.8 lbs = 28.8 oz =2.88 oz/taco

So, Patient Spouse™ just ate 12.5 tacos @ 2.88 oz/taco = 36 oz of tacos

Apparently, I ate more😲 than my Patient Spouse by 3.86 oz!

Luckily, we really aren't very competitive, lol😂

Do Qdoba or Chipotle Tacos count? If you go and order 3 and have practically everything put on them....they taste better than taco hellllll too.

Any taco counts! Just weigh them so we can calculate your Taco Equivalent Score. 😄

Our leaderboard so far is:

  1. @Torrey eating 39.86 oz with a TES of 13.7 tacos! 🥳
  2. Patient Spouseeating 36 oz with a TES of 12.5 tacos!

An amazing start to our contest.

Even though I’m hosting, I also wanted to enter just to give everyone a baseline. I am a rather small human with a chronically low appetite, so this was also good “exercise” for me. 😉

I chose to use a HelloFresh taco kit for my tacos. Usually I only eat three tacos for dinner, so I decided to stretch myself and eat four! 😄

Before:

The weigh-in:

Much to my surprise, after only 20 minutes or so, I’d eaten all four tacos and still had room! So of course I had to get seconds!

Two extra tacos:

Their weigh-in:

It took me about 40 minutes total to eat all my tacos. After six tacos I was extremely full. 😄

My Taco Equivalent Score:

  • I ate 12.15 oz + 5.8 oz = 17.95 oz
  • 17.95 oz divided by 2.9 = 6.19 TES tacos

So I ate six tacos, but they were a liiiittle heavier on average than a standard Taco Bell crunchy taco, so I get a little extra credit (that 0.19 😁)

Current Leaderboard:

  1. @Torrey eating 39.86 oz with a TES of 13.7 tacos! 🥳
  2. Patient Spouse eating 36 oz with a TES of 12.5 tacos!
  3. @Hobbit eating 17.95 oz with a TES of 6.19 tacos!

I was in a lot of pain that night but the real thing that bugged me was the taste of the tacos it gets gross after you eat that many a good tip is get different flavors like the Doritos ones to change it up or add a sauce so it's not the same thing over and over.
