Non-Fish Pets

I don't have any non-fish pets of my own.  Blackie is the shop cat.  It took two years before I was able to put more than a fingertip on her.  Much to the neighbor's amusement, each morning she meets me at the sidewalk and proudly walks me to the door.  If I stop, she stops and waits for me to continue.

When I first started this thread, my siamese mix miko was still a kitten. Now she's a 2 year old!  She's still active but has calmed down a lot as she has aged. One interesting part is how point colored animals change coloring as they age. Point coloring is a form of albinism which is temperature based. The warmer parts of the body do not express the melanin and are lighter. The cooler parts, or the "points" become darker. Because it is based on temperature, they become darker as they age. They are born all white and develop their coloring. This changes throughout their entire lives and will even change with the seasons. Here's some picture of her when I first got her and now.

I'm not sure why that last one keeps going upside down.

Been there haha. Cat wouldn't get off the bed so I was like "he'll get off after I cover him and he'll hate it."  Of course that's not true he loved it and stayed there for a few hours! Lol. Cats are funny. Making the bed is playtime!

I recently got a tall scratching post for my kitty. She found another use for it.

IDK how you got the sheet on without the cat getting underneath.  We both know that cat will be there for hours and very happy with itself.

Truth!  And I had to remove her from the bed 3 times before I could apply the fitted sheet. (This happens every time I make the bed. For some reason it’s super exciting to her).

She also takes the metal drain stopper out of my bathroom sink…

I eventually started embracing it and will put my hands under the sheet to play with them

@Ninjoma there is so much mischief going on in those photos!  The white cat is very well camouflaged in the bathroom photo.

If you put it down all the way, does she lay in the sink?

Nope, she's smart. She knows she can't get it if it's closed.  And once she gets it out she just lets it lay there in the sink with all the little flecks of crud. LOL

Also, she has some kind of a romantic affair with my husband's socks 5 days a week.  But not freshly laundered socks, oh no no no... we are talking end-of-workday, socks-in-dress-shoes-for-10-hours socks.  She rubs them all over her face and the top of her head.

More so previously. I've only been playing Slay the Spire and Super Smash Bros Melee for the last 12+ months.

White cat is Coral. He's a brat. Gray cat is Honey Bear. She loves to bad.

Bumblebee dart frogs, Dentrobates leucomelas. These guys are tiny, if they tuck in their legs they could fit on a dime with room to spare. But very active, out and about all day. They'll maybe triple in size by the time they're adults, ie over the next year. Still small though.

For anyone who's interested, the bridge between keeping aquariums/fish and keeping darts is really manageable. A lot of the acquired knowledge is very transferrable. Terrariums require similar shelf space and "infrastructure" (eg lights, cords, meters), and growing plants in a terrarium isn't that dissimilar to an aquarium. A misting system is an added investment (not small), but it's expandable. A lot of the "extras" in keeping fish translates well to keeping and breeding dart frogs. Live foods (wingless fruit flies), clean up crew (springtails and isopods), leaf litter and botanicals (the same leaves go in both habitats). If you get to breeding and are graced with tadpoles, you have to deal with (very rare) water changes, and the tads love live foods like daphnia and bbs, and java moss is universally appreciated.

I've managed to find a couple local pet stores that sell both fish and herps, and I'm able to trade fish/shrimp that I breed for darts (they're expensive, so it takes a lot of fish to get started) and terrarium equipment. Dart babies take around 6 months to get to sellable or trade-able size, but the babies fetch almost as much as adults. Here in Canada, they retail for $100-$200 each, or around half that on the private market.

In short, if you have a fish room, or fish closet, or multiple tanks, you're probably putting in time every day as it is, and adding a dart frog terrarium would be easy peasy.
