Coop or Co-Op?

Which way do you say it?

I see a lot of people spell it out as Coop, which makes me think of chickens, but I think of it more as a collective, so Co-Op.

I know the official spelling/pronunciation is Co-Op, but how do you say it in your head or out loud? Is it "The Coop" or "The Co-Op?

The loudest one says Co Op. But there is a fainter one that whispers 'the coop'.

Officially Co-Op. But I usually say coop cause it's funny and we run around like chickens to get things done.

I've often wondered where the name "Co-Op" came from or how it came to be. Maybe somebody knows?
