  1. Maybe it was loaded on an airplane at some point and the low atmospheric pressure caused the seal to open. Kind of of like when you take an unopened bag of chips to higher altitudes, the bag will appear as if it is inflated, like a pool toy, due to the lower atmospheric pressure.
  2. That is crazy loud. My ziss air stone came with spare felt pads, you could try changing them. It sounds, to me, like they are getting clogged. If you don't have spares maybe try as @Pepere suggests and soak them in vinegar to break down the hard water scale that may have built up in the felt.
  3. What is the ammonia and nitrite levels of your tap water? Because if nitrates were caused by a dirty water filter then ask yourself this: what was feeding the filter enough for the water filter to produce nitrates?
  4. My wife has 8 pea puffers in a tank with a lot of red cherry shrimp. No carnage to speak of.
  5. Las vegas NV, here. We have one fish store that caters to aquascapers, but nothing like they have in Europe. Here is my novice, high tech, aqua scape:
  6. It was. I chose flexilla hose for the color. It is bright day glow green and easy to see so that no one is likely to trip on it in our house. Kink free? I would give it a 7 out of 10 in that regard.
  7. I use fusion 360 and Tinker cad. That model was made with Tinker cad.
  8. Here is mine. Valves on both ends of the hose. After filling tanks, i close the valves so that the hose stays full of clean tap water. This provides the siphon on the next water change. I Just hang the hook on the tank, put the other and in my bath tub, open the valves and the siphon starts by itself. Then I attach the hose to my sink in my laundry room and adjust the water temp and fill up the aquariums.
  9. I have made a lot of gadgets but this tool is a game changer for water changes. 3d printed the diffuser to fit tightly on 3/4 inch pvc pipe. I also made one to fit my daughter's python hook hose setup.
  10. Regarding 3d printed parts and heat: PLA is the lowest melt temperature so avoid this material where heat is involved (hot water from your tap is hot enough to reshape it) PETG is a little better up to about 110 Fahrenheit. ABS/ASA is commonly used and would easily withstand the heat involved with your heater. Less commonly used materials like poly carbonate (PC) plastic would have even higher temperature resistance than ABS or ASA, but not many people print this material due to the requirement of a heated print enclosure.
  11. Test ammonia, sometimes bubbles can indicate higher than normal ammonia. But more likely just bio film that needs to be skimmed off. Could also be caused by a male betta building a bubble nest.
  12. Much faster than an uncycled tank, as long as your Ph is not too low. I would say less than a week. But that is just a guess based on my 1 year with 7 aquariums. Also you really don't need a cycled filter for a quarantine tank, in my opinion. I change water 50% daily in my quarantine tank and that works good for me.
  13. All of my live stock made it without issue. Panda Corydoras, otocinclus, cardinal tetras, chili rasboras, Corydoras habrosus, amano shrimp, cherry shrimp, cherry barbs... not one casualty.
  14. You will almost certainly get an ammonia spike that last for 3 or 4 days after disturbing the substrate. So be prepared to test often and be ready to do daily water changes. I was shocked when my rescape caused a 3 ppm ammonia spike. I did 50% water changes, twice a day, for 3 days and using an ammonia test was able to see when the beneficial bacteria was able catch up to the ammonia. In my case, that was on day 3.
  15. I just got them installed. They flow much faster than the metal valves that I was using. So that will make harvesting the baby brine shimp go much faster. For anyone who orders some of these Mur-Lok valves, you should also order some "John Guest Locking Clip - 1/4 Inch" (2 per valve). I did not order these because I did not know that I would need them. Luckily I have a 3d printer so I just printed some up and the .stl file was available on thingyverse.
  16. I want to update this post for the sake of posterity. I did beat the algae. I hesitate to admit that after months of fighting the algae I finally decided to go with the nuclear option and directly apply seachem excel, using a pipette, with the filters off for 10 minutes, daily. I used 7.5ml per day. Using the above method, the algae was eradicated in about 3 weeks.
  17. If you use cyanoacrylate (super glue) in a dry environment, it will dry almost clear. If you apply it to something that is wet it will immediately turn white.
  18. The 3d printing hobby is a rabbit hole that is almost as deep as the aquarium hobby. N3rd level 9+ for sure.
  19. I am new to hatching brine shrimp but I have been hatching mine in 1liter of water, with 1 and 2/3 table spoons of rock salt (the kind for water softeners). At 80 to 82 degrees, heated with an incandescent bulb and they hatch in 24 hours. Probably close to 100%. These are the San Francisco brine shrimp strain of eggs. It sounds to me like maybe you just got a batch of eggs that somehow got damaged.
  20. I had the same about a year ago with one of my panda corydoras. I did daily 50% water changes without using medications. And it went away in about 3 or 4 days. The fish is doing well to this day.
