@JChristophersAdventuresI have seen some really heavy duty baker's racks but they are very expensive. -

I went easy-mode for the wife's breeding tanks. Took about 3 and half hours to build and she loves it. -
Not really. We have a few in our whisky barrel fountain in the back yard. One of them was born in there and is now about 6 inches in length. They are a beautiful fish with a graceful swim.

That white dust is from your declorinator. My daughter has the same problem when she does water changes more than twice a week. She uses some api stress coat stuff and I think that most of hers is related to the aloe in that declorinator.

Thanks, but if you after the real cheese, then: The pH of pure water (H20) is 7 at 25 °C, but when exposed to the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere this equilibrium results in a pH of approximately 5.2 because CO2 in the air dissolves in the water and forms carbonic acid.
-
You have it correct. the PH of the RO water is very low because it has no minerals to buffer it. it will will correct to the proper PH, when added to your aquarium for top off purposes, because when that water evaporated it left behind the minerals.

I don't know because I never tried but I have read that they need brackish water to survive and that it requires a lot of effort to keep the salinity correct as they grow.

I have been using matten filters in the wife's fish room set up with one 20 long and three 10 gallon tanks. The pore size that works best for us is 30 to 40 ppi. The jetlifters (3d printed) make the lifter tube pump a much larger volume of water with the same amount of air. We use 1/2" pvc pipes for the lifters and it is plenty of circulation (enough to encourge her sterbai corydoras to spawn). The matten filter has a huge surface area and that really helps because no fry get sucked into the sponge. The filter should be 2 inches thick and about 3/4 of an inch wider than the aquarium to provide a nice snug fit. I bought the sponge on Amazon based on size that could be cut to fit her tanks and price: https://www.amazon.com/ALEGI-Aquarium-Filter-Sponge-30PPI/dp/B08ZRTR4M5

Would be really difficult to get a perfect fit without having the pipe to test it on or some kind of standard pipe like PVC pipe. I have sold these on etsy I will message you the link, if that is allowed. @KittenFishMom

Yes it is 3d printed. Fire up the prusa! I add declorinator when I add the new water. Right before turning on the tap.- 20 replies

ACO sponge filter and clear water
Tommy Vercetti replied to PaleoShrimp's topic in General Discussion
The cheap (Amazon) sponge filters are much finer porosity and can polish the water quickly but they clog just as quickly. I keep some of these and use them (when my water needs polishing) in addition to the ACO sponge filter that stays in the tank. This works much very well and can usually get the water crystal clear in 2 days. -

I am in the same boat as you. I am learning fusion 360 but wow it is a steep learning curve. The parts above where made in Tinker CAD, which is easy to use but has so many limitations.
-
Perfect. I now use them to power Matten filters for the wife's 10 gallon tanks on her fish room rack.

where to get airline hose clamps?
Tommy Vercetti replied to HelplessNewbie's topic in General Discussion
I cut a 1/4 inch long piece of the same airline tubing and stretch that a bit and use it as a hose clamp. -
Ammonia burn maybe? Just guessing here. Ammonia burn maybe? Fin nipping tank mates? Just guessing here.

Need Help Removing Algae
Tommy Vercetti replied to fishfishfish's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
Then consider a fertilizer like easy green, so that the plants can out compete the algae. Be advised that the API nitrate test requires that you shake the bottles very, VERY well. -
Need Help Removing Algae
Tommy Vercetti replied to fishfishfish's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
I would add some fast growing plants like pearl weed, water sprite, Rotala or Ludwigia and some floating plants (not duckweed). This will help take up those nitrates and the Floating plants will help diffuse the light, making life tough for the algae. -
Pre filter sponge for lily pipe intake
Tommy Vercetti replied to Shrimpee's topic in General Discussion
I think the fluval edge intake is too narrow at 3/8" (10mm). -
