  1. @Armyvet My fish go crazy for Repashy, I watched Cory talk about it in one of his videos and gave it a try. My fish came down with Ich and I’m treating them with Ich-X right now and at my LFS (and since I’m a huge fan of garlic myself) I asked about any foods to help my fish with their immune systems and one of the customers gave me this info.
  2. Really enjoyed the thread!!! Beautiful tank setup.
  3. I just wanted to add that the homemade concoction I suggested is good for up to 2 weeks refrigerated. You can also soak up any fish food in it. I just microwaved a couple of cloves and am soaking it in water now. I think I will be trying not only with the Repashy but soaking the Vipra Bites. I read that garlic will make any finicky fish eat…
  4. Hello Community, someone suggested to me that I could add fresh garlic to my Repashy Community Plus food. Peel the garlic cloves, microwave it for 10 seconds, cut the cloves lengthwise and then place the strips in dechlorinated water, then let it sit for at least 12 hours or longer for a stronger solution. This would be a homemade solution in place of using Seachem Garlic Guard. I've read in the Co-Op forums about the benefits of garlic for Aquarium fish but I wanted to make sure this was safe for the fish.
  5. Thank you Colu and Quikv6 for the replies. Would it be safe to still use Easy Green Fertilizer while dosing Ich-X or should I just wait until the treatment is completed??
  6. Hello, I posted a while back that my Platies were rubbing against my Aquarium plants and started treating them for flukes with paracleanse. Then I noticed one of my Rummy Nose Tetras with white spots and then the Platies got white spots. So I stopped the Paracleanse and switched to Ich-X and the white spots disappeared after treating for 4 days but the Platies started rubbing against plants again and not have any white spots so I stopped Ich-X and went back to Paracleanse. Now the Platies have clamped fins and the white spots are back on the Rummy Noses and Platies. I’m on day 2 of the Paracleanse and not sure if I should stop and go back to Ich-X or finish the Paracleanse, but the white spots have really come back and regret stopping Ich-X treatment. All my water parameters are 0 with the Ph at 6.8 after adding crushed coral in a heavily planted tank . I don’t know what to do at this point and it’s hard seeing my fish go through this.
  7. Thanks everyone for the info. I looked it up and what my LFS calls “base rock” is just “coral rock”. I crushed it up some and the ph is coming up. This forum is great for fish keepers like myself, I've searched for answers in the past in the forum and learned a lot.
  8. Is what I have from my LFS coral and they are just calling it base rock?? If it’s the same then should I just crush that??
  9. Hi everyone, I’ve setup a temporary tank in a Streilite tote (5 gallons) for Platy fry and my PH keeps dropping to 6.0 and below. I keep doing 50% water changes to bring it back up but it goes right back down. LFS told be to put base rock to neutralize the ph and that worked for my 20 gallon tank. I have Java Moss that I just got from the Co-Op and Water Wisteria from my 20 gallon.. My Ammonia, Nitrites and Nitrates are all 0. There is a seasoned sponge filter that I had in my 20 gallon aquarium. Currently I have 5 fry inside the tank because a bunch have died that think due to the ph. I’m pretty sure I’ve removed any dead fry.
  10. How about the fish fry. Is Ich-X safe?? The Mother Platy was in the tank with the fry and I moved her after birth.
  11. I believe my Platies have Ich, some white spots have developed. I’ve started the Ich X treatment but should I continue with the paracleanse?? Is Ich X safe for Platy fry because I’ve noticed some of the fry are rubbing against plants also.
  12. It is a cycled tank, nitrates are zero because it’s heavily planted. Ph is 7.0 but I do not know the hardness, will be looking at getting the Co-Op test strips when my API testing kit runs out.
  13. Could I use Paracleanse??
  14. Hello, I’ve noticed my Platies rubbing a lot on some of the plants in my Aquarium but there are no visible signs of Ich on them. Ammonia, Nitrites & Nitrates are all at 0. Temp 77 degrees and PH 7.0
  15. I am going to be purchasing Java Moss from Aquarium Co-Op and just wanted to know if the mesh can easily be removed without damaging the plant?? Would I use the super gel glue to attach it or is wire better??
  16. Really good information from everyone. The heater is one piece of equipment that can really do a lot of damage in an Aquarium. It’s so hard to to find a reliable one.
  17. It was a big tank with Platies and Swordtails mixed in. I didn’t notice any aggression. Originally I had Bumblebee and a Blue Male Platy in my Aquarium and they were fine for the first few days and then the Blue Platy really started going after Bumblebee. I brought the Blue one back and got the females instead. The rest is history. The owner suggested getting dither fish to help with the aggression. I’m looking at doing that. I want Cardinal Tetras but the owner advised against it because of the Bolivian Ram will eat any slim shaped fish but everything I’ve read online suggests otherwise. That’s why I haven’t tried the dither fish yet. It’s just not the nipping but how they launch at each other. I used to have Platies along time ago and love their colors and never had this problem, but then again it’s been 20+ years and just got back into the hobby.
  18. Hello, all my Platies are aggressive toward each other. I have 3-1 female to male ratio. My Bubblebee Male Platy attacks a Female Red Tuxedo Platy (who may be pregnant) . The Red Tuxedo attacks a Blue Female Platy but won’t attack her when Bumblebee is around. I had Bumblebee in a time-out and she went right back to attacking Blue. Blue will attack a Female Carolina Mickey Mouse Platy when it’s feeding time. Bumblebee gets along fine with Blue and Carolina but can’t stand Red and literally will launch at her. I have Red in a Ziss Breeder Box (BL-3T) for the time being. The other fish in the 20 gallon high tank is 1- Bolivian Ram and 5- Corydoras and they’re all fine. It’s a cycled tank that has lots of live plants. I purchased the Platy’s from a local fish store and they came from the same tank.
