  1. Thank you, I'll try that. They look so uncomfortable. I feel so sorry for them.
  2. This is the first time I have used my 10 gallon quarantine tank (or any quarantine tank for that matter). I have 7 neons, and 3clown loaches in, I took the sponge from a healthy 30 gallon and put it in, it is set at 80 degrees, lights are on for 6 hours, I didn't feed today, I'm dosing with the trio and I started yesterday. My question is, "Is it normal for the clowns to be up at the top with the bubbles from the sponge and should I feed?" Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
  3. Thank you. I'm horrible about names. I just see them in the store and point. I don't know what it's called. I know it grows like crazy. I love it too.
  4. So what you would do in your tanks with low levels of alkalinity is nothing?
  5. My readings are good accept my alkalinity is low. How do I add alkalinity without changing the others?
  6. Lucky Students! Way to enhance this season for learning. Good luck on your tank. It looks great. Do you teach science by any chance? I see the periodic table in the background. I hope you keep us posted on any sciency type of things you do. Thank you for serving children and getting their minds to embrace being ethical with our water habitats.
  7. Hello! When you have co2 can you stop it once your plants are at the stage you want them so you don't have to continually prune and cut them back? I would love a lush jungle but I don't want the work that it seems co2 produces.
  8. MTS is something I caught quite by accident. After we set up our 4th, I had to ask my husband, "Please tell me "NO" to more tanks. THE NEXT DAY, I found that the 20 gallon I had had more scratches that I couldn't live with. So, "Just this one, really." I don't know if I would really want a "fish room". It would have to be my office also, I find myself wanting to just sit and watch them to often and wouldn't get my work done.
  9. I'm loving this new thing. At 60 it's awesome to keep trying scary things. Reaching out like this is one of those things for an introvert. My husband and I (mainly me, but he has enjoyed them) got started with fish tanks a little over 2 years ago with a $80 craigslist 20 long inclusive kit. Which turned into (as of now almost $1500 later) a 55 gallon. Scary to think how those things happen. Then recently I wanted a tank for my desk since the 55 sits on our bar that passes through from our kitchen to our living room. Most days I see it in passing and maybe for an hour or two while the light is on. So for my desk, that I'm at for hours we got a 6.8. It does the trick and our Fuzz kitty loves the company. Our most recent additions (two weeks ago) are "free" tanks that a friend gave us, a 29 and a 20. Those free things! The 29 is the first tank that my husband has ever picked the fish for. I guess it will be more work, I was told by some of the nice people on the site that I may have to do water changes more often because of the load, but if it makes him this happy, "totally worth it". He even has his Tardis in the background. (We are Dr. Who (BBC) fans.) Thanks for the opportunity to connect.
  10. I would do that but I just swapped from hanging filters to sponge filters on all my tanks.
  11. Isn't alkalinity and ammonia the same thing?
  12. The ammonia is on a separate strip, but it says, "ideal".
  13. No I just have the 6in1 strips. But everything else looks perfect.
  14. Thank you. Is it too much once it is easier? It's the first tank my husband has chosen the fish for so I really want it to work well.
  15. I'm semi new to the hobby, 55, 29, 20 and 6.8 gallon tanks and have a lot of what are probably basic questions. I have watched most of your videos and live streams. They are very helpful. With my church shut down (Covid) just looking for some "personal" contact, a way to be more interactive with people.
  16. Thank you. I was just hoping! Is there anything like a chat group that you trust, with ACOs morals structure.
  17. My daughter has two test that she puts in her tank and it has a continual readout. One is for ph and the other for ammonia (I think). Is there something like those for Nitrate, Nitrite, and the fifth one (on the strips)?
  18. Thanks, Yes we just added the neons and the corys two days ago. The tank has been set up with the rest for about a week with previous water from our 55 gallon which was good. Thanks for the answer. This is the first time in this area of the web site. I didn't know how easy it would be but I thought I would give it a try. Thanks for answering that question too.
  19. I have good test strip results in every other test but my nitrites are too high. The test strip readout says "Stressed". I have 50 neon tetras, 4 sel.(sp?) cory, 6 kuhlie loaches, 4 nerite snails and a clown loach in a planted tank. How do I get the nitrite down so I am not stressing my tank?
