  1. I took the picture to the Wet Spot, fish store, and they said it was a healthy African Fern, but it doesn't look healthy to me. It has black beard algae. Also they said it was supposed to be translucent. Since I don't know the name I can't find out how to bring it out of it's slump. Any help would be appreciated. Should it be planted or attached?
  2. Thank you. It is a shrimp only tank.
  3. These are on the algae, on the glass of my shrimp tank. There are hundreds of them. They measure about 1mm, and are off white. I thought at first they may be tiny snails but they swim and move faster than snails. I'm wondering what they are and if/how to get rid of them. Thanks for any help.
  4. I don't think they are hurting anything but the tank is in our dining room and just doesn't look good. I have been manually picking 10 or so a day. Just hoping I was unaware of something. Thanks for your response.
  5. I have a 10 gallon shrimp breeding tank that has black substrate, and LOTS of algae, it has a lot of pond snails. How do I reduce them since I can't cut back on the food? Thanks
  6. I've got a hang on back filter and a small sponge filter. Would that be enough current?
  7. I'm wanting to breed blue cherry shrimp. Can I have a bamboo shrimp or giant blue wood shrimp in a 10 gallon with them?
  8. Sounds yummy, just as long as an inexperienced Carl's Jr line cook can make a balanced meal. Today is our regular maintenance day so I'll drain my 55 to 30, add all three meds, turn off the hang on back (continue the two sponge filters) and wait not feeding (even the fry).
  9. I had a balloon belly Molly and 2 rainbow fish get really skinny and die also one rainbow, that is still living, has patches that look like white mold.
  10. I have two questions. I have read the article, "HOW TO TREAT SICK AQUARIUM FISHE, (EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT SURE WHAT'S WRONG". 1) Am I understanding it correctly to say, that I only dose three medications at the same time, one time, and let it sit the week? Not every day, or every other day, as per the instructions on the container? 2) Can I drain my 55 gallon with, 8 dwarf rainbow, 1 betta, 2 siamese algae eaters, 1 hillstream loach, 6 albino corys, 10 mollys with ?fry, planted, to 30 gallon (to use less medication).
  11. We don't have the dimmer things. They just blink on. They are just the 55 gallon hooded kit lights that came with the tanks. But are you saying (in your opinion) that breaking up the lighting time would be nondetrimental?
  12. We have our 7 tanks on timers to turn on 15 minutes before my husband needs to leave for work. (6:30 a. m.). They are set to go off when we turn off all electric entertainment,(6:00 p.m.). We are getting a bunch of algae growth and even with the clean up crew some of the tanks are unsightly. I like to have the lighting on while Ray is home and awake obviously. Is it ok for the fish if I set the timer to go off for a few hours during the middle of the day. They are in well lit rooms. But I know I have heard Cory say that the algae growth could be from too much light. I would like to have them come on at 6:30 a.m. -8:00 a.m. and 12:00-6:00. Could that stop the algae invasion (at least slow it) with putting my fish in a scary (for them) situation? Thanks for any help.
  13. My parameters are spot on I do a1/3 change every 3weeks with top offs when needed, I run a hang on back plus it also runs my spare spong filter (for quarantine tank), my plants fill about a quarter of the tank and the temp runs at appx. 80.
  14. I have a planted, 55, with a Betta,2 Siamese algae eaters, 6 albino corys, 2 bamboo shrimp and 1 Giant blue wood shrimp. I don't want to do more than 1 water change a week. I already have 8 DRF but I would like more. Can my tank and change schedule handle more if so how many?
  15. I saved my first 🐟! I have medicated others but they ended up dying (my fault, their fault, who knows). But this time, I put one of my dwarf neon rainbows in the hospital and medicated and a week and a half later he was all better and back to swimming with his little friends. I would love to say I know what I did right but I think I was just blessed and had plenty of help from people here on the forum. I LOVE THIS PLACE! I can ask newbee questions and not be criticized. Thanks everyone ❤️!
  16. I would love to add shrimp into the tank. The 20 might get some but I added 10 cherry shrimp into our 30 with frogs, guppies and mollys and now I have no shrimp. I don't know who got an expensive meal but I'm sure there was dancing and a movie later. Our 20 has Pork Chop?, Mollys and a Betta will shrimp not be the start to a great night for them? Thanks for the advice about the skimmer. I am tech challenged. It would be great though to just open a drawer and pour out all the excess snails.
  17. Hopefully I can find some around here. How big do they get? Will they be able to live out their lives in a 20 or 30 gallon and are they safe for plants?
  18. I agree the nerite eggs aren't that great looking. It's a price I'm willing to pay for the benefit. It would be nice to find something that had those razor teeth though. It's the little pond snails that I'm having trouble with. But with all the help here I'm hopeful I can curb them some.
  19. These were all so helpful, thank you! I guess it's less food for everyone. The gravel vac'ing sounds interesting too I was wondering how that would work since I have never had it pick up snails before. I haven't vacuumed since I started planting our tanks more heavily. And I will try the assassin snails too. I do probably overfeed. They just look so happy at meal time. I really wish there was a way to figure out just how much. I have heard Cory say he overfeeds to let everyone have something but I can't seem to get it balanced between nutrition and pleasure. They always seem hungry.
  20. Is there a fish I can add to my 30 gallon, planted, community fish tank that will be plant safe but still eat some snails. I don't mind some snails but they seem to be all over my tanks. Thanks for any help.
  21. Is there anything special I should do about the Kuli Loaches that I know are in there but they are hidden?
  22. I want to reorganize my 55 gallon tanks. I will need to pull plants. Is it ok to totally do a make over with the fish still in the tanks? Should I get something for them to calm them during the process?
  23. Nope 36 years is too long and amazingly fun to waste. Anyway, he is the one that hands me his check so that I can make this little slice of paradise we call home for the 100 or so, give or take, of us.
