Given the length of time it's had the bloating the way it's backs bending I don't think it's egg bound if you have a quarantine tank you try treating with Epsom salts 1 table spoon for 4 gallons for a week and do a course of kanaplex just in case there a bacterial component causing the swelling or you could just monitor if it gets worse I would consider humanly euthanizing with clove oil

White growth on betta fish lip; similar issue on a neon tetra
Colu replied to aminowrimo's topic in Diseases
Fish can survive for a long time with NTD it's only when a period of stress weakens there immune system that you start to see symptoms I would only euthanize fish that have symptoms and are going down him rapidly- 44 replies

You can add 3% hydrogen peroxide to the tank and leave the filters running after 24hr it will turn into H20 and oxygen it's a very fine line between a harmful dose that would kill your plants and a safe dose I would do a that a couple of time them leave your tank running without fish for a minimum of 3 month and and sterilise all your nets and buckets in high dose of hydrogen peroxide what i would do with your betta is add Indian almond leaves as they have antibacterial and antifungal properties and monitor you might have to add one leaf per gallon to get a beneficial effect don't think kanaplex would be beneficial- 44 replies

-
Nothing jumping out that would indicate you have a disease present in the tank I would just monitor make sure everyone eating ok no abnormal behaviour if you notice anything out of the ordinary give use an update
-
Any rapid breathing hanging out near the surface lethargy flashing spitting food out sunken belly white stringy poop red Gill's

That's good pure levamisole is more effective I would do 4 full courses of following the instructions on the packet

I think your neon tetras have NTD what I would do is essential quarantine any fish that have been in contact with the neon tetra and just monitor them if any start to show symptoms then I would euthanize them with clove if you think there suffering before they die in the tank to answer your question Bettas can get NTD it's possible it's the start of a snout chondroma what I would do is add no new fish to this tank add Indian almond leaves as they have antibacterial and antifungal properties and monitor and when the final fish in this tank die then I would steriliser everything in the tank 3% hydrogen peroxide solution and leave it 3 months without fish @aminowrimo- 44 replies

Looks like epistylis to me he's how you can tell the the difference between ich and epistylis if it's epistylis that feeds off of gram negative bacteria on the slime coat of your fish and spreads more quickly at temperatures over 75 the most effective treatment is to dose the tank with ick X and treat with maracyn2 in food feeding a small amount twice a day for 7 days @socalss21

I haven't really looked into that as it something that I rarely come across
-
Water change before starting treatment then a water change after you have finished the full course of kanaplex

If it's a fluid filled cyst you should start to see a reduction in size after a couple of days as the salt start to reduce the fluid I would leave the salt at that level for week then give an update if your not seeing any improvement

Maracyn safe to use with shrimp and snails I don't think you need to treat with a antibiotic treatment it could be parasite what I would do is get hold of prazipro it's shrimp and snails safe I would always recommend removing your snails if your going to treat I would do three full courses of prazipro so treat week 1 week 3 week 5

I wouldn't recommend these medication they are just mild antiseptic treatment not effective against anything more serious you would want to treat with a broad spectrum antibiotic treatment maracyn2 API fin and body cure seachems neoplex e.m erythromycin
-
Usually you treat every 7 days for 4 weeks with levamisole not every two weeks is that the dosing instructions on the medication
-
When you start to see visible worms that means your fish has a heavy parasite burden even with treatment the internal damage caused by the parasite can still kill your fish ram might be to far gone to recover I would quarantine and try to stimulate his appetite by adding a small amount of seachems garlic guard to his food
-
Could be a fluid filled cyst or the start of a tumor they are really common in Betta's due to inbreeding what I would is quarantine and start treating with aquarium salt 1 table spoon of 2 gallons if it is a fluid filled cyst you should notice it start to reduce in size @lmhicks101

Just feed the medicated food till you have finished the full course then you can feed them there regular food
-
Even with the treatment I recommended it still has a high mortality rate this is the treatment I have found most effective
-
If it were fish TB it very contagious has a very high mortality rate amongst fish and it can infect people so even no I think your dealing with NTD I would still wear gloves if your put your hands in the tank and wash your hand before and after doing anything with the tank and take proper infection control measures it's always best to air on the side of caution
-
Could be an injury or have a bacterial component what I would do is add some Indian almond leaves as they have antibacterial and antifungal properties you might have to add one leaf per gallon to get beneficial effect or you can catappa x it's a liquid extract of Indian almond leaves and dose that if you notice any Reddening were the white patch is or it gets bigger then I would do a course of kanaplex or maracyn2 which every one is more readily available @Tan Tran

It's possible you could have organ failure that caused fluid buildup in the body cavity parasite are l less likely unless you added fish recently that you didn't quarantine small chance of an internal bacterial infections what you could do is add aquarium salt to help reduce any possible fluid buildup do a course of maracyn2 in food feeding a small amount twice a day for 7 days to treat any possible internal bacterial infections and dose the tank with metroplex for upto 3 weeks that most effective treatment I have found for dropsy@Chick-In-Of-TheSea

Snail produce very little waste even when I have had a population explosion I haven't noticed any deterioration in water quality such
