  1. @Patrick_G Seattle isn’t an option. I live in Florida and asked for something within a weeks driving distance.
  2. @billango noted. I do have 2 fish clubs that I attend, however I’m still missing that feeling of not knowing what you’d like to add to your aquariums, however am confident that no matter what you end up with, it’ll be really cool. I wish Aquarium Coop was drivable but it may as well be a million miles away.
  3. Hello all, I live in Parrish, FL. As far as freshwater aquarium stores, they’re basically non existent. I have 1 local store which is pretty well stocked. I also have a ton of farms (I tend to prefer buying quality stock, so this can be difficult at times. You also do not have the luxury of seeing the species in an aquarium.) I moved here 2 years ago from NYC. The freshwater aquarium stores in NYC, specifically Queens had spoiled me rotten. I have since become an online fish shopper which has tons of benefits. With the amount of research I do, it’s safe to say that the only down side eventually became that I miss the brick and mortar experience. Question is, what pockets of America do you find the largest saturation of freshwater aquarium stores? We have a week long vacation and I’d like to plan around this very question. Stipulation is I’d have to be within 1 weeks driving distance back and forth. It would be very convenient for this to be in Georgia or Louisiana, but alls I know is, it definitely isn’t Florida. (I am aware of a few store in the state, but they are extremely few and far in between). Please help me plan our vacation. 😎 Thank you kindly.
  4. I don’t believe bamboo shrimp will do anything to the algae other than lay on it if it’s near the water current.
  5. @Golden Rams Hypothetically, if I ever had to dwindle down to 1 aquarium, I’d keep Multies. They are extremely entertaining. I kept them years ago in a 75, however currently I have a colony in a 40B. They have a way of keeping your attention that is pretty remarkable. You may have heard @Cory say that watching them transport a Malaysian Trumpet Snail to a different side of the aquarium makes it look like they’re playing the trumpet. I’ve seen it a bunch of times and that’s why it’s called the jazz tank. Love, love, love this species. Good luck to you and enjoy the heck out of them.
  6. I’d say a dozen seems about right. Is the tank planted? If so, it’ll be fairly easy to keep 12 or so with a BN pleco. PS you’re going to love White Clouds, they may be the most underrated fish in the hobby. Maybe. Enjoy. I just reread and since it will be planted, you will be fine, enjoy.
  7. I’ve got a 40B with a colony of multies. IMHO, you can’t go wrong with multies. I also have a cycled, empty, planted 40B that is slowly figuring itself out. This may sound weird, but I let the aquarium tell me what fish to buy. I have a general idea of what fish I love, I’ll set the aquarium up and just watch it. After a few weeks, I’ve usually narrowed it down to 1 or 2 species. It doesn’t work 100% of the time, however the 8 out of 10 times it does work, it is truly pure zen. Hope this helps and isn’t too vague. Good luck
  8. If my wife can use them in a home with tarantulas and aquariums, I’d venture to say you’re fine unless you dump the contents into the aquarium.
  9. @Pepere I would never pay shipping on stone, it’s much too heavy.
  10. I sprayed my down with a hose before putting it in my aquariums. Tons of stuff breaks off, crumbles away, basically melts before your eyes. After this, I too, have never noticed any further deterioration.
  11. Rainbow fish, rainbow fish, rainbow fish, as many as you can afford. Photos online do not do them justice. Their breeding behavior is, IMO, the greatest display of all fish. Good luck
  12. Hello, I live on the west coast of Florida and Hurricane Ian may have caused my Gold Dojo Loach to go Michael Myers in my goldfish pond. We live just north of Sarasota area and at first Ian was to slam into us head on, but as it got closer, it kept hooking east which took us out of the range of being a direct hit. Fortunately, we are ok and nothing happened to our home. We did lose power for about 8 hours and the power save mode on the aquarium coop air pumps literally saved all my fish. I will forever be grateful for the foresight and practicality of such a device. Now onto the fish mystery. I have a 300 gallon pond with 5 fancy goldfish and 1 Gold dojo loach. The dojo loach was introduced a couple of days prior to said incident. After Ian passed and power was restored, I was able to do my runs and make sure everyone was ok. I was fairly shocked when I saw half of a ranchu’s tail missing to the cartilage, it seems. A blood red line outlines the affected area. I have since pulled it out and have her cycling through the med trio and some stress coat. I also pulled the dojo out and placed it in a 110 outdoor planted stock tank with some platies. Now I know these are considered weather loaches, however these seems a bit extreme. I have had dojo’s before and know their behaviors fairly well. I have noticed that some can be nippy while others are downright puppy like. Please see photos below:(please disregard the glare, I’m not even a photo beginner at best)
  13. Hello all, long time since I’ve been on. I have a small colony of Neolamprologus Multifasciatus and they will soon be moving to a 40 breeder. I’m an effort to strengthen the blood line, would it be possible to purchase 6 more or so and combine both sets of fish at the same time in the new 40 breeder. Theoretically I believe it could and will work, however experience is the best cheat sheet. Any thoughts or feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Manny
  14. @lindabee53 this is a public forum that you decided to state your “annoyances.” The issue is you prefer an echo chamber rather than other people’s opinion. Nothing @Brandon p said is offensive at all, simply facts. I understand why you would be annoyed, however there are parents on this forum that would never have reacted the way you did. You prefer to scold as other may see it as a teaching experience. There’s a huge difference.
  15. @lindabee53 you show me where it says that every 6 year old is the same and I’ll show you the manual for parenting.
  16. @lefty o you could always add the water after the bucket has occupants, probably wouldn’t take that long to get the deed done. I live in Florida so freezing was the last thing on my mind.
  17. There’s a mouse trap YouTuber that reviews all sorts of mouse traps, including antique ones. It’s pretty fascinating stuff. I’ve bought this at his recommendation and it worked wonders, never had a problem again. Just fill the bucket half way with water and place some peanut butter on the black portion closest to the middle of the bucket.
  18. I clean any substrate I ever use before it goes into the aquarium, unless it’s eco-complete.
  19. Need-75 gallon aquarium Want-180 gallon aquarium Wish-500 gallon aquarium
  20. In my experience with children, they all aren’t the same. Knowing how to behave and being curious is all very subjective. My kids never get into any of my aquariums or tarantula enclosures because they are never left unsupervised and if they were, it’s all been baby proofed. If someone else’s child comes over, they are also never left unsupervised. I understand being angry at the parents for not teaching the correct behaviors, but a 6 year old is simply a reflection of what they’ve been taught. Sorry for all your troubles, but children shouldn’t be blamed for their dopey parents. Neil Degrasse Tyson once said that if a child is playing/examining/destroying something then they should be allowed to do so because they are all degrees of interest. Children’s curiosity can run rampant and although it stinks that it is at your fish’ expense, scolding a 6 year old with cursing and screaming teaches them as much as their parents already have, nothing. I’m not pointing the finger, but you went on a little rant and there’s my reply. Just an FYI, I was raised by immigrant Italians in NYC, screaming and cursing was a basic Tuesday for me growing up, it taught me nothing but resentment. @lindabee53 Also to you those were your prized fish, to a 6 year old, it could be viewed as the coolest toy in the world. Imagination is also very subjective.
  21. @Dawn T I’m not a betting man, but if I was, I could pretty much guarantee once you use these, you will convert all your timers over to these. I even use them for my coffee maker, Xmas tree, outdoor lighting, basically anything. Good luck!
  22. Go on the coop site, they have timers that you can set to whatever increments you want. It’s controlled by your phone and far superior to any timers I’ve used in the past 10 years or so.
