  1. I got a bulb roughly 2 weeks ago and leaves sprouted pretty quickly for me too. The leaf sprouts look much thicker compared to the roots. Once you see them you can properly plant the bulb for the roots to grow.
  2. This is for my 20 gallon tank, since my 10 gallon is an empty, cycling work in progress. Stocking (wellbeing): 7 Stocking (looks): 6 Plants (variety): 7 Plants (health/growth): 5 Decor (wood, stone, etc): 5 Ease of care: 8 Daily Enjoyment: 9 General Appearance: 7
  3. Love the colors on them! Here's hoping to some pretty babies!
  4. I can happily say that this bulb is a winner! I'm honestly shocked at how fast it's growing! Took this Wednesday night. And this I took this morning. I can't wait to see this baby grow and change! That being said, I'm a little worried about the nerite snail that's in the photo. Little guy has barely moved all week. I fished him out this morning to take a sniff, no weird smell, but I did see him move in the shell but barely. The other two have been palling around upside down on the driftwood. Is this particular nerite dying on me?
  5. Hopping on the "Patience Train" here. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING is a slow process. Buying all the proper equipment takes time. Cycling the tank takes time. Researching fish takes time. You just cannot rush things in this hobby. So take your time and enjoy the ride.
  6. I never even knew there were such things as "water Venus fly traps!" Damn nature, you scary.
  7. Sabaton just put out a new single, and I've been jamming to it since I came home from work. I keep telling myself that as I get better at aerial silks and lyra, I'm going to someday choreograph Sabaton routines and I just added it to my "wish play list."
  8. I put up black poster board on my 10 gallon tank. It's gonna be a betta tank and I didn't want to get something reflective, which I heard a bunch of the backgrounds that you can pick up in stores tend to do. While I was at Joann Fabrics getting the black poster board, I found a cool wood textured poster board that I put on the back end of my 20 gallon hex tank. It's really subtle, but looks cool!
  9. Yeah, I rinsed it off really well to get all the gel out. The end that's up in the pic was indeed floating. It's weird cause I had it in the gravel for a week and saw today that it was starting to pop out. Since it's just a clump of grass, there's really nothing to weigh it down other than just pushing it more into the gravel and pray it doesn't somehow float out of it again.
  10. Looks like the tank is moving along nicely. Been following this guide on the fishless cycle, on day 8 right now. Ammonia and Nitrites are going down, whoo! So hopefully soon it will be fully cycled! I added an air stone to get some good ol' oxygen involved, placed it behind the driftwood piece so it's by the heater. I also added a mini Sword for an empty corner and placed some dwarf hair grass in front of the driftwood (and it doesn't like staying in place, of course!). Marth is doing good! He survived the week of Maracyn, so he's now on day 4 of the Ich-X and ParaCleanse treatment. No problems swimming around, I don't see reactions to the meds, so he's looking good! I went and bought one of those mirrors for him, and he just swam right past it, not even bothering to look at it. I pushed the grass back down, hopefully it will stay down! The lily is slowly growing after pausing for like a week. Didn't even notice the speckles on the leaves until I took the picture! Crispus is looking sad, which I assume is melting? One of the big leaves just rotted off, and the other two just lay near the gravel, but there is a sprig coming through. Promising! Water parameters so far. I forgot to note that I added 2 Catappa Leaves today to try and bring down the pH. I wanna try to shoot for 6-7 range.
  11. So I'm replacing the Dwarf Aquarium Lily bulb today. It's been sitting for weeks with nothing but fuzz. Even when I rotate it looking for any kind of growth, nothing. But the good news is that there's already a sproutling peeking through the new bulb! Below are pictures of the 2 bulbs, the first one being the dud. I also bought a proper API GH/KH test kit, just to be extra certain on parameters. I bought a 4 pack of strips when I first got my Nerites, and now that I'm setting up a Betta tank I really wanna make sure everything is good in that tank in particular. Tested this 20 gallon first, and assuming I've done the test correctly, I've got about 200 GH (took 12 drops to change color) and 100 KH (took 6 drops).
  12. Quarantined Betta is doing good so far! After wracking my brain, I think I settled on naming him Marth. My order of Dr. Tim's Ammonia came in today, so now I can finally begin cycling this puppy! I'll test the water after I come back from my aerial classes, give it some time to really soak up. Wish me luck on the fishless cycle!
  13. I'm trying out root tabs for the first time in my 10 gallon. Didn't know about poking a hole, but I simply pushed them to the bottom of the tank and made sure to push gravel over them. That seemed to work, even after pouring water into the tank afterwards. I'll have to try out that poking trick when I replace them. Hopefully I get the knack of using tweezers. I've tried using them to add stuff into my 20 gallon and they never stay in place.
  14. Loved House of the Dragon! I'm actually re-watching Game of Thrones, in the middle of season 2 right now.
  15. From what I've read, Neon Tetras are very sensitive to water parameters, and if you just got the tank then the cycling process may not be done yet. When I was setting up my first tank, one of them employees at a LFS told me that some fish can handle the cycling process much easier than others, such as goldfish, mollies, and platies. If you really want to keep Tetras, then it sounds like you need to wait for the tank to be more seasoned for it, otherwise try out a hardier fish that can handle the changing parameters as it cycles.
  16. Right now, I'd say I wanna see if I can make lillies work. I've had a Red Dwarf Lily bulb in my 20 gallon for about 4 weeks now, no growth at all. I'm gonna remove it during my next water change. I just set up my 10 gallon and I have a Tiger Lotus bulb in that one that came with some tiny leaves already, so I'm hoping this one will grow more.
  17. So with my first tank I did the fish-in method for cycling. For this tank, I'm gonna try the fishless method, ordered aquarium ammonia and it should arrive in a couple of days. I'm real curious to see how this process goes, as my parents have never done the fishless method. In the meantime, I found this little cutie at Petsmart! He's a simple blue Veiltail with a black head and some red trimming on the tail. I've got him in quarantine while the tank cycles, and rather than attack with all 3 meds at once I'm gonna follow this blog post's advice and spread it out throughout the weeks. I wanna be extra careful just in case and make it as stress free as possible for him. As far as what to name him, I haven't settled on one quite yet. I've got plenty of time to figure out a good one
  18. Set up the 10 gallon tank tonight! Also set up the journal for all the deets!
  19. Back when I was first thinking of getting into this hobby, I originally wanted to get a small tank for a betta fish, but after checking out some fish at a LFS I was like, "I want a bigger tank!" And thus, I settled on the 20 gallon hex tank and started building my little fish community. With what I have in there, I believe I've reached the maximum of what I can put in there without causing it to completely crash. So I've finally succumbed to the dreaded MTS and bought a 10 gallon Topfin Starter Tank. Bought my decor last Saturday, and the plants I ordered from ACO came in today, so it was time to get this bad boy set up! I bought some Java Fern, Water Sprite, Aponogeton Crispus, Anubias Coffeefolia, and a Tiger Lotus Bulb, along with a smoother piece of driftwood and smooth rocks, and it looks like I've still got some room for maybe another plant or 2! I also bought some Root Tabs and I'm gonna try them out on this tank, see if they really make a difference. I assure you, the gravel is red, not pink! Got 2 bits of Fern in the 1 pot. Whoo! My god, this bulb is so tiny! Hopefully this one will go somewhere, cause I have had no luck whatsoever with the Dwarf Aquarium Lily in my hex tank. The stems on the Water Sprite were practically snapping apart in the package, so I tried standing them up with the gravel. Hopefully they'll grow! And lastly, the Crispus. Hopefully this will grow nice and healthy too! My Amazon Swords in the hex tank were looking really ratty for the first month, but now they look like they're improving. So I've got hopes for this one!
  20. I had a similar fear when I got my nerites, and they love climbing to the top of the glass. Just to be safe, I went to Joann Fabrics (or any hobby store that's by you) and found these little plastic grid thingies in the yarn/needlework sections. Cut out some space for the knob that controls my filter flow, and then placed a rock I had previously taken out just for extra security when it lays flat. I dunno if any one of them have actually crawled up that far, but needless to say, they're staying in the tank!
  21. The water has gotten really cloudy lately, and the parameters are good. 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrites, Neutral pH, 5 Nitrates. Tried dosing the tank with some Accu-Clear, barely did a thing. I gave my filter a good cleaning today and replaced the filter cartridge since it was due for a replacement. I think I may be putting in too much food and it's contributing to a bacteria bloom, so I'm gonna try cutting back on the pinch size for a few days and see if the water clears up. That being said... Try as I may, try as I might...I can't! I can't resist it anymore! MTS, I AM READY, TAKE ME NOOOOOW! The plan for this is to be the betta tank. So help me, I will have my betta! I got the tank setup, the driftwood, ordered my starting plants from ACO, and I'm gonna try out red colored gravel for this one. Once the plants come in, I'll get everything set up and running to start the cycling process. Eventually I wanna throw in some catfish and maybe a small school of tetras with the betta and call it.
  22. How long have you had them? I've had my plants for about 2 months, and I've recently started increasing my Easy Green doses to 3 times a week instead of 2. Since then, some of my plants like my Amazon Swords have experienced improvements. I've also heard root tabs are good too.
  23. Get enough of these crazy responses, you could make a funny video out of it.
  24. Be still my heart, the color you've got with the plants already is just breathtaking!
