ricbennett3
Does anyone know what this type of algae is? It’s not unlike some hair algae, but is growing super compact in mats. I’ve been able to trim it and place it between rocks. The shrimp love picking stuff out of it. The Kuhli loaches seem to have tunnels underneath it, because they pop out of holes in it every now and then to grab food. I’m starting to like it, but don’t know what it is. My sponge filter has a big mat growing on it 1

lefty o
kind of a green hair algae, kissing cousin of black beard algae.
John Henry
It is so dense and carpet like, could it be a moss?
Odd Duck
Ever had a Marimo moss ball in that tank? It looks like it could be Marimo algae. I’ve had it grow onto wood pieces before. Wish there was still some on that wood piece.
rockfisher
I’m not sure what kind it is. I used to have in a few tanks. I loved it. The fish would graze on all the time. My discus would pick at all day and keep it very short. I wish I could have you ship some to me. It is definitely similar to Marino. It could be the same. PineSong
Gosh that's nice algae! I would be happy to have it growing in my tank, too! It almost looks TOO perfect--like The Brady Bunch lawn!
Shrimpee
It looks like a marimo moss ball flattened into a pancake. I would love to have that type of algae growing in my tank. I just got BBA growing like crazy😔 Edited April 16, 2023 by Aquarium2343
Expectorating_Aubergine
It's cladophora algae. The same algae those moss balls are made of. Boy I wish I had your problems, cus that stuff is GORGEOUS! 😍........ Also, I can't get it to grow for me like that 😪
