Suzie
Hi friends! My show tank is just about finished cycling, and I'm getting ready to purchase the quarantine/hospital tank. What size would you recommend? I was thinking 10 gallons: Petco has the dollar a gallon going, so it's a good deal. I'm pretty new to the hobby, so any advice you can lend would be very much appreciated. Cheers, Suzie
Bill Smith
As long as it's big enough not to stress out a fish by the mere fact of its size, any size will do. I think 10 gallons is a very common QT tank size for most fishkeepers. Bill
MickS77
If you can, use some filter media from your already cycled tank to get the cycle going in your quarantine tank.
H.K.Luterman
The API meds are sold in 10 gallon doses, so me being the un-mathematical type, prefers to use 10 gallons for quarantine. 😉

The graduated markings on the side are a good idea! When I watched the video, I wondered how she went about making those marks. The easiest thing I could think of was just adding a gallon of water at a time and making the mark. We have limited space, so I love the idea of a tub that can hold all of the supplies in between uses.

Oliver
I use a 10 gallon as my QT and has worked perfectly for all my community fish!

This is assuming a bare bottom. Edited July 20, 2020 by Kevin spelling, blaming my keyboard this time!
Novabound
I have a 10 gallon planted quarantine tank because i think the plants help reduce stress by giving new fish cover. But i kind of wish i went with a 20 gallon.
pedrofisk
Sometimes I just use one of these, the x-large is about 5 gallons so you can just divide medication in half if you don't need a whole 10g for the fish. I kept the box it came in and store it, a sponge filter, small heater and air pump with it so its always ready to go in case I need it. Andy's Fish Den
I have a 10 gallon as the one I use 99% of the time, but I also have a 20 high that I keep as well for quarantine. I use it for if a get some larger fish or a large group of fish, plus its in an increment of 10 to make it easy to dose the med trio, just two packets.
