A COLOSSAL IDIOT walks into a pet store....(an illustrated tail - intentional misspelling- of woe)

Recommended Posts

So good to see the girls settling in so well and love Serket’s name.  Zaggi seems to fit, too!  Twin tail continues to look more and more beautiful, he does have a very “watercolor” feel to him.  Look at some of Cézanne’s paintings for a similar “style” and palette.  John Singer Sargent did some wonderful watercolors and Winslow Homer did many stunning watercolor seascapes.  Some good naming potential in that list!

Very glad to see that Red Crown continues to make strides toward better health.

Ok Betta friends it's update time.

Last 2 patients still hanging with me. As I've mentioned before White Twintail Halfmoon is just waiting out days to see what his fate is. I haven't decided what direction to go yet. He's not been medicated in some time, eats well, seems to be enjoying his new spot with some floating plants added like Serket the GloBetta did. I can't believe how pretty he is- I've never seen one quite like him. Anyway thought I'd post you a short Google video of what I see when I look at him:

https://photos.app.goo.gl/ew1LqCRtdYCjZLSB6

Then there's the still: 2034174987_twintailhalfmoon11222.jpg.0c3f73303bdd84b78102b246e8cc3a73.jpg

I mean, little one has come a long way since that fateful day in September:

97316685_twintailcompare11222.jpg.29229bceb3789b9ed9694da0e79d585c.jpg

I'm really proud of all of them- they are such little fighters. Just an affirmation of the will of all creatures to live and what they can do when they just get a little boost from the outside. I say that and want you all to see this (especially @Odd Duck). I took a short video of Mr Red Crowntail tonight:

https://photos.app.goo.gl/Ctns8gc2pR1aSECQ7

I mean I couldn't be prouder of this one.....of all of them he's been the hardest but the most stubborn. I could tell he was really trying. He's still not there. I don't see him break from the surface (sometimes he'll do it when chasing sinking food but it doesn't last long), but he's swimming more than he has since day one. I'm very much hoping I can get him to full recovery point but I know that will take more time- but I really think he's looking (and especially ACTING) so much better: 1794416216_crowntail11222.jpg.7e0e26b19d23c988fa2e06c0323fcc46.jpg

Much better when compared side by side:263864538_crowntailcompare11222.jpg.d5cf1383ddaf428e6fea72db847b52bd.jpg

So he has a long way to go but showing a lot of promise in recent days.

He very much reminds me of art. The art that came to my mind in particular is similar to the artists you mentioned but also one of my favorite fantasy artists, Brian Froud (he designed the puppets for The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, worked very closely with Jim Henson a personal hero of mine). In his book Good Faeries Bad Faeries he does a series that are Spirits, and I love them. These are some: 1033312336_reminder1.jpg.11db026a0582974261dc318d5be7f121.jpg1242267163_reminder2.jpg.910bbc06e15ce73ab533d32ca5b63eea.jpg

The red one even reminds me of Mr. Crowntail. Even the name of the painting is appropriate. This is the one that reminds me most of Mr. Halfmoon:gladfly.jpg.be9ec8905e3469574c383d1a0fa345f9.jpg

So if I end up keeping one or both inspiration will come from art and spirit because these two have both in them. Hope you all have enjoyed this update, and thanks for coming along with us. 🙂

Glad to see crown tail doing so much betta!

Remember the guppies from my LFS who were being kept with Tiger Barbs ? Almost finished with them, and I've found some new homes for them.

Nope. He's truly beautiful. I have a feeling with the right tank lighting he's going to take breaths away.

Well, now that song is stuck in my head and I can see a video in my head with him swimming around while it plays as a soundtrack. 🤣 Very serene

Nothing new to report. Crowntail will be getting his last dose of Expel-P per @Odd Duck's treatment plan on Saturday. Everyone in my house got water changes and some maintenance done today. The desk where the 2 QT tanks sit have a little bit of sun in the morning. Both boys were soaking up the rays. Poor Mr Crowntail still looks sad (don't worry little buddy we're not done with you yet), put some floating plants in his tank today from my Aquatop Cube: 507601310_crowntail11422.jpg.38ca9538e47766d94bf60c3a7f010cac.jpg

HOWEVER....CHECK THIS OUT....1617901843_twintailhalfmoon11422.jpg.051631b1551c9a6222d1ee2dd21d4967.jpg

Update time.

A couple of days ago Red Crowntail got his last dose of Expel-P. I'm going to give him a break from meds for the next week at least (other than aquarium salt). He seems to appreciate the floaters I've put in his QT and likes to be lazy on the fake Betta leaf rests I put in the tank too. I did harrass him a little with my finger yesterday during feeding time and he did go to escape my finger by going about halfway down the tank. Didn't stay there long but this is still progress. He chases his food too so that's also good. This is him yesterday: 753205822_crowntail11622.jpg.f57dc15fd0b42bc56894d62e956a9a18.jpg

I had an opportunity on a local forum to put White Twintail up for a potential keeper who was looking for a Betta but they did not respond. I will post him on his own some time this week to see if anyone wants him. I think though I'm going to run into an issue with people who are more advanced fish keepers, constantly trading and giving away fish- they're not going to want a "typical" Betta fish- seems the wild types, giants, koi and others are more popular right now. He's gorgeous no doubt but just because I think he's pretty doesn't mean that's what people want. I mean, he was at a pet store half dead so who knows how many people passed him before! We'll see what pans out!

Try posting him for sale on this forum - see what happens 😉

So today I wrote a post for the local forum for White Twintail Halfmoon. Asked a $20 rehoming fee so that I only get serious inquiries for him. We will see if I can find him an appropriate home. @TheSwissAquarist I won't be posting him on this forum as I will not ship him- he's been through enough trauma as it is- I will only subject him to a short car ride- I'm aware of a few locals to me on this forum but from what I've gathered Betta aren't their thing. We'll see what pans out in the next few days.

Hello Betta friends!

I know the updates are getting less frequent- mostly because there's not much to report. So you are aware GloBetta Serket is doing awesom in her new tank still, as well as Purple Dumbo girl Zaggi (saw her this week but the tank lights were off, Mum says she's great).

White Twintail Halfmoon has had no takeers on the local aquarium club swap/buy forum. I'm not entirely surprised. I was talking to someone about the situation and I explained that shortly after I posted White another keeper (who had liked on my post) put up for sale a bunch of very beautiful wild-type Bettas. This forum has a lot of advanced aquarium keepers who are constantly swapping/buying and looking for breeding projects. No matter how pretty White is the fact remains that the advanced hobby has moved on from Betta like White and are more interesting in wild type and more exotic looking Betta (I think if I posted Koianu, my Koi Betta up, he would get sold- but that's not happenin'). So we're going to readjust and figure things out for White. Here is a pic of White today: 187003966_whitetwintailhalfmoon111122.jpg.5d063a1553685b1a0c8434bae61b872b.jpg

Red Crowntail has had a week off the meds. No huge changes to report- as stated before he mostly stays up at the top of the tank but can motor around the surface fine and I haven't seen a lot of side floating. He has found his spot in the corner near a Betta leaf and some floaters. He eats well still and is able to hunt down his foods ont he surface- still reluctant to go below. @Odd Duck would you still recommend Prazi next? Here is Red today at rest in his corner, his color is looking pretty good and he might eventually have some nice blue irridescence on his scales: 1892101469_RedCrowntail111122.jpg.a82dff90d9f66ad480144c2425b2d09b.jpg
