  1. Hey you wonderful folks, If you were going to scape a 5g aquarium for a betta and were to pick plants from Aquarium Co Op. What plants would you choose? I am working on setting up a new tank for a dear friend to have her first fish buddy. I do have about 8.8 lbs of fluval shrimp stratum on hand I was thinking of using. Not only because our water tends to be hard here, but because I just want to get rid of it as it has been under my bed for about two years. The color is brown. I also have quiet a bit of dragon stone available to be used also, mostly brown in color. So that should make up the hardscape. I will be getting her a co op sponge filter. So with all that being said how would you imagine an aquarium with fluval stratum and dragon stone? What plants would you go with for a complete noob that are available on the Co Op website 🙂 I know its not the biggest selection but I like spending my money with them. I am hoping to keep plant cost under $150. Plants that I have readily on hand that I am overflowing with and can use include: water lettuce, red floaters, frog bit, dwarf sagitteria, and pogo. oct. And I am sort of leaning towards crypts to be perfectly honest too. Just fyi.
  2. Setting up 75g for african cichlids. How much weight can the tank actually take? Only supported on the 4 corners. Also, how long should rock be boiled for? Thanks for any advice. Regards, Larry
  3. I am planning out my 180 gallon tank. I am just about to get it filled and start cycling. I am hoping to add some plants, but I have fish that like digging. I bought six of the easy planters, and hope to add plants that don’t branch out too much. I was hoping you all might have some good ideas on what plants might go well. I would like some things go all the way to the top to give the tank more depth. That being said, I don’t want the plants to spread too much. I would rather have more planters and the ability to move things around without worrying about the fish digging them up. In my experience, the fish I have don’t really eat the plants too much, But since they are substrate feeders, they tend to uproot them. I plan to have a large area of sand, But a zone in the back that has some kind of planted substrate. I plan to separate them with larger decorations so the two substrates don’t mix. so, I’m open to suggestions. I was thinking about swords and other plants that will grow up from a single point and not send out runners. The only truly planted aquarium I have ever had is going strong, but also somewhat out of control. With 24 ft.³ of room in the tank, I do not need these plants to do the same. I will most likely add CO2 at some point, but need suggestions on plants that will grow without it. I am not opposed to adding some carpeting plants as the diggers won’t be in the tank right away. For these, I would need suggestions on things that will grow and root fast.
  4. To minimize visual impact, I would like to secure airline tubing and power cord for a heater to a corner of my tank. Would the super glue that is used for securing plants to hardscape work?
  5. I've been messing with trying to get a rockpile look without using up all of the space in a 20 long. Most of the rocks have been broken and the flat side attached to the tank wall with silicone. So far I think it looks pretty decent. The center section is filled in and has a piece of wood sticking out, I think I like it. The side sections need work. The sponge filter is sitting about where I want it for flow but it sticks out like a sore thumb. What would your next steps be?
  6. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find medium to large decor? I have a 35 gallon bow front tank. Everything I find looks cheap (Petco and/or Petsmart) or is to small. I noticed on Aquarium Co-Ops YouTube video "The BEST idea for you 35 gallon fish tank", there is two volcanos in the fish tank behind him.Does anyone know if this is made or bought? If so, where can I buy them?
  7. Here's the 55 gallon tank, fluval 3.0 and plants from aquarium co op and lfs. Only thing now is hardscape, driftwood or stone, or both. Which do you all think would look good? Any lower budget options? I'm only 15 and don't have the highest budget
