  1. My 60 gallon tank is not up and running yet but I found a vendor who has some 6 inch long rope fish for sale. I know rope fish will eat whatever they can fit in their mouth, but at such a small size, are small fish at risk if they are in the same tank? I have also noticed they are sort of harder to find so I dont necessarily want to miss an opportunity if possible.
  2. @Hobbitdo you have tips to help me keep any babies alive before getting a breeder box? Can I put them in a cup?
  3. It was crazy to see these tiny specks with tiny tails swimming around and then by the time my husband spots one, boom, eaten by a tetra
  4. Second update: nest is still gone but I did find babies. Many have been eaten by the red phantoms. I don't have a breeder box or anything to feed babies so any remaining survivors may be goners by the time I get home from work
  5. Update for you all: when I got home from work, the bubble nest was gone. It appears they have called things off for now. Sure I am disappointed, but I am not sure I was ready to be a fish grandma anyway, so it's for the best.
  6. I was ready to bet my life they were both males but hey good thing I didn't do that. I am learning so much from this forum
  7. Sounds like I will need to get a breeding box, a magnifying glass, and fry food. Damn I just placed an order at aquarium co-op yesterday. Guess I have to place another 😎
  8. That's funny. I named my fish bobby/bobbi and billy/billi (because I didn't know if they were boys or girls or one of each
  9. Thank you! I hope you too have many fry in your future!
  10. If it wasn't for Fish Folk I would have never noticed the bubble nest
  11. Thank you!! It's all very exciting for having had these gourami for less than a week haha
  12. Yes! Which means I don't have to relocate one and I can keep my next tank a pea puffer tank!!!!
  13. Wow that's a good looking male! How soon will I know if we have had success?
  14. Amazing. He has been protecting the nest for a while. These two just keep going at it
  15. Well one was definitely noticably rounder than the other. I was actually worried she (apparently!) was suffering from dropsy or something.
  16. Well I'll be darned. I just noticed the bubble nest. I have reduced the flow from the airstone. I read somewhere that reducing the depth of the water sometimes spurs spawning. Well what happened this Sunday? My cats bit a hole in my filter hose and it drained a couple inches of water. Interesting!
  17. Which is which?! I thought they were both boys
  18. Hi all, Yesterday I posted about my two gouramis not really enjoying one another's company. I will be removing the aggressor as soon as my second tank has fully cycled. In the meantime, I am keeping an eye on them. While I was watching, I noticed the fish that was getting chased cornered the chaser and they were in this position for a solid 10 seconds. No movement, just pressed up against each other. They did that two or three times. I don't know that much about fish behavior so every weird thing like this is an opportunity to learn. But my goodness what are they doing here?
  19. Now this tank is almost cycled. It's a lot of fun. I will be getting a pea puffer or two for this tank.
  20. That is sort of my situation. I don't know if you would consider my tank heavily planted but I have many plants and have been on the fence buying a 60 gallon tank for a rope fish. Maybe he will get transferred to that.
  21. Thank you @Biotope Biologist and @CorydorasEthan. The aggressor will be relocated. My second tank is not quite cycled yet though so he may have to wait a couple days. Dang fish
  22. Thank you! This eventually cleared up on its own
