  1. I am a newb, I went to a store to buy a fish tank for my daughter I got back with a tank full of plants and no fish I had no idea that I will go down that rabbit hole now I am obsessed about these plants . I don't think any of these plants I currently have need CO2 thou I got a fancy light and I am dossing easy green daily now otherwise the plants start to suffer .... long story short I will get another tank do a more fancy scaping and leave this one for my doughtier
  2. I would like to get neocaridina , cherry or ideally nice blue ones since I have red snails in the tank
  3. what is a good GH for the shrimp? I always thought that GH 150 ppm is hard water ?
  4. I also think that the law KH is from my substrate form what I found out but not sure I got this substrate with the kit it looks nice in my opinion but if I do it all over I will choose something better for sure
  5. I am dossing easy green once a week and always thought the nitrate are from that ?
  6. Hello all , having some successes this week and slowly learning , I replaced the top on my aqueon 7.5 kit with a custom built lid and got the fluval 3.0 nano / plus root tabs from the co op! The effects are supper interesting (at least for me) the biggest effect was on my crypts lutea after two day with better lights (even before root tabs) the crypts grew tons of new fresh green leaves (always thought of this one as a low light plant) after along time of nothing , My micro sword is carpeting well was doing pretty good before the ne light too !! my hygrophila polysperma that was the fastest grower before new light (its basically an invasive weed that is illegal in some southern states but legal in Manhattan ) went straight up like soldiers but does not grow as fast anymore not what a thought that will happen but cool !! thinking about playing with some CO2 but this is for another day Now after I bored you all I have a question about keeping neocaridina in tap water ? who had success doing that ? I am using NYC tap water in my tank it seams to be stable so far 0. ammonia, 0 nitrite , about 20 nitrate, PH 7.0 , KH 40 ppm (problem?) , GH 150 ppm (my tap water are hard) I have pink Ramshorn snails that are doing good and having lots of babies and 4 guppies two normal two endlers what do you think can I bring in some shrimp? some of the internet is telling me no ROI water no go I attached a picture of my 2 months old tank still nothing to write home about but gives me great pleasure also I can not get a good picture with my phone of my bountiful endlers the move too fast 😞
  7. Hi as I assume many people do I decided to buy a aquarium kit before knowing that I will fall in love with the hobby. I got this kit : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HHK92XX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_TJ7QGPNAWB916SSKBSWF after two weeks I realized the kit filter will not do and got a sponge filter, now two months in I think that I need better lights . Now the way this tank built the only place I could hook a light is if I got rid of the kit filter , I do have another sponge filler but the kit filter been running for two months and building bacteria that I will lose . what do you think? Is it ok to take out? also... I have my eyes on the fluval nano light from aquarium co op . Will it be good enough for a 7.5 gallons
  8. I do have a sponge filter and lots of plants and a air bubble inside the filter . I got the guppy from a very good store I trust in NYC called pacific aquarium . They are in business for years and years and are very knowledgeable . I don't think it's something they did wrong I know that they quarantine and everything
  9. I have a sad update , I am new to the hobby . Apparently my best guppy was sick... it was hard to spot since he was so pretty , but now when thinking about it he was slower and hanging at the top more then the rest . Even with cycled tank , perfect water parameters he did not survive the fist 48 hours from the store to my tank . He passed away last night . Now everything is calm in the tank I don't see any signs of the other fish being sick they are active, nipping algae and eating well . The endlers stoped flaring and look calm and playful . Sad story especially because I work so hard for two months to get this tank to the best condition to my ability for fish . But that's that. Now the two endlers and two guppies all get along and even play with each other while before the endlers kept to themselves in one side and refused to get closer to the guppies other then flaring at the sick one.
  10. There are two other male guppies and I do have lots of plants and hiding places but as soon as he start exploring these two endlers following him and flaring with all kind of dances , so makes me think that they are in love with the poor thing. He goes back to hiding and get a break but I am not sure how much of a life quality that would be 😟 may have to return these two
  11. I think I know what the answer will be and it's very annoying. I thought that it will be cool to have 3 male guppies and 2 endlers together in my 8 gallon tank . Sadly the two endlers decided that they either in love or hate my best guppy . They follow him non stop driving him nuts to the point that he has to go hide behind the filter . P.s if the solution is what I think and I need to get rid of the endlers what is a good way to catch them? They are super fast and hard to catch
  12. I chose ramshorn snails after one normal baby one showed in my tank I added 1 blue and two pink and I love them . To be honest I almost what them as the only livestock . But I got this tank to have blue dream shrimp and maybe two male guppies 😄 so let's see what will happen
  13. Hi all , In the journey of building my 7.5 gallon eco system I always planed to have cherry shrimp in my tank . I worked to grow amount of algae on the walls , two of the wall were thick green covered . long story sort my crypt was covered in algea too and was about to die I introduced Ramshorn snails and the plant is now green again and growing faster problem is the snails are so good at cleaning algae that the tank is sparkly clean now no algea in sight (maybe on the macro level that I dont see) the completely removed algae from both walls I was planning to get some shrimp this weekend will the snail eat all of the shrimp food ? I see many people keeping snails and shrimp together ? I want the shrimp to do better then the snails ( the snails were are very happy to be in algae infested tank doing all king or breeding and dancing ) but they now ate all of it sorry if it is a silly question
  14. Ha ha can you spot what's under my thermometer? It began 😂
  15. How quickly do they multiply for you? I live in a NYC size apartments and only have this tank so I hope I can keep them under control. So far thou I am loving them !!
  16. My relatively new crypt lutea 4 weeks in the tank was pitch black , I thought it was melting. I sent a picture of it to the local store in NY where I bought it and they told me that this is not a melting plant but it is covered with algae and will die if not solved. They suggested to try to rub the algae off first with my fingers ... I tried but the algae did not move . Yesterday I added 3 ramshorn snails to the tank and already most of the crypt is green again !!!! What I though was a dead leaf was super green on the inside. I hope it's not a beginner mistake and my tank won't turn into a snail breeding tank but so far these snails are doing such a good job, moving constantly and already after one night cleaned so much algae and I love thier look. This picture the snail that cleaned the algae now eating a dead leaf
  17. I am obsessed with it as I am sure you all know the feeling 😂 Also just to make it clear this picture is super closeup on a small algae spot. My tank is not that dirty ....
  18. Hi all, I am a newbie and still cycling my planted tank , (no more ammonia but nitrite still high ) The thing is that I go some algae in the process... with the algae I started to see other creatures appear (hitchhikers form the plants) I am guessing . I see baby snails and I know that these are good , I also see very skinny and long worms, they almost look like white hair until you notice them crawling and eating the algae . I also see tinny little creatures looking like small bugs or fleas ? I know that some worms are and some creatures are good and some can be very bad I going not find on google a worm that looks like the one I have and I want to make sure nothing bad is going on before adding fish after the cycling . I tried to take a picture but these are very small things we are talking about so it blurry Thank you
  19. That so pretty and green. I am using aqueon shrimp and plant substrate , I don't think the substrate it self has nutrients . I add API root tabs and true ... I noticed an explosive growth. Sadly the API tabs also clouded my water and algae covered the walls of the tank after 3 days 😂 I followed the instructions then learned that they tell you to put way too many. I don't have any fish in the tank yet just watching the plants . I cut off most of the brown leaves today and only small green leaves stayed on so the tank looks pretty empty now. Hoping it will grow large and green like in your picture.
  20. Thank you !! if I put some snails in the tank will they eat the old leaves ?
  21. Does any one here have an experience with hygrophila? The plant is growing a lot I had to trim it because it got out of the tank but the leaves are melting ... There are new green leaves coming out everyday , there is plenty of nutrition in the tank (too much I am getting algae as you can see form the cloudy water ) what do I do with the dying leaves ?
  22. I just did a water test and one thing these root tubs did is spikes the ammonia in the tank, Luckily no fish yet !! so what's the next step? it read ammonia at 0.25 after 25% water change 😵
  23. I do think that it is algae thou I am starting to see it on the glass and guess what 2 snails just showed up . All this life from my stupid mistake yesterday 😂 I feel like I have superpowers
  24. Thank you for the long and helpful reply . I learned my lesson 😄 luckily no fish is in the tank just yet I am just enjoying the plants . Is there a way to make sure that it is in fact an algae bloom ? These root tabs dissolves very quickly . in the case that what I am seeing is a root tabs mess and not algae bloom what do you think I should do ? Will it hurt my filter ?
  25. This is my tank today after adding API root tabs 😟 Luckily no fish yet in there ... What do I do ?
