  1. My water is basically always green, my plants have been growing like crazy I know they are getting some nutrition from my heavy stocking level. My 2021 goal is to get a better understanding of hardness and algae in general. I have never fertilized the plants. I have been reading a lot and am not sure if would help or hurt at this point. I also thought maybe that carbon additive would work. Do you have any thoughts on if that will help? I heard Cory say once that its an imbalance so I was curious this is definitely area I have a lot of learning to do.
  2. Welcome I used to frequent the Vestal Binghamton area upstate NY is beautiful.
  3. Are they making it through any molts ? What do you have in the way of Calcium in the tank? Lots of folks use crushed coral. I believe their shells are like 90% calcium. The snails are only 50% or so. Maybe the mineral content is enough for the snails but not the shrimp. I don't keep any shrimp personally yet but am planning to get some when I get a second tank so I have been researching water parameters, life cycle, diet, and breeding etc... I think Colu has a good point too what do they eat? I did read that they need supplemental food beyond tank/algae grazing. They are omnivores so they like meat and plants.
  4. Welcome and love the rimmless setup.
  5. I am also interested the most in breeding. It's why we have guppies I wanted the kids to be able to see and learn husbandry as well. What sorts of lights are you running on your tanks? I have a basic Aqueon tank/light setup and I want to get a Fluval 3.0 and glass lid but not sure I can justify the cost. The Finnex Stingray is a second choice but I have not owned either.
  6. Wow is that a detached garage with 5 doors !! Is the lounge part also part of the garage structure a second story perhaps? Looks like an epic space!
  7. can anyone tell from my tank pic is that green water hue "diatom" algae? I have a problem with my kids turning the tank light on all the time when I am at work so I think I have too much light. I want to switch to a programable for that reason.
  8. Not close at all for me. I just joined as well somehow I never realized there was a forum. Is your profile pic a shrimp you have? Do you raise shrimp and if so how do you like them I was considering getting some cherry shrimp but may try to breed some bristlenose instead.
  9. Tanks look great! I am trying some basic plants for the first time. Your tanks look like tank goals!
  10. Hello I am also a new member what sorts of things are you hoping to learn ?
  11. Welcome I just joined as well how many tanks do you have?
  12. Thanks I am trying to learn now proper dosing for algae management and happy plants I think I also want to do a new tank light.
  13. My first post! I love aquarium Co-op I found this channel when after 20 years out of the hobby I was setting up our 20 gallon high and had a nightmarish time getting fish to live, an issue which I had never experienced in the past. I have learned so much over the last year or so from Cory and the team, and have been successfully keeping fish since I figured out my mistakes. I was so discouraged that I almost gave up prior to finding the channel. My current tank is Guppies, 1 male bristlenose catfish, and 1 female molly. I have java moss and anubius (on wood) substrate is gravel. The guppies are breeding and I am trying to find a way to get some re-homed I am talking to my local fish store to see if that is an option. Anyhow we are having lots of fun with the tank and my kids love watching the fish.
