  1. Hello, just put a gold barb into a 50litre established quarantine tank due to having a prominent red sore on its back. the plan was to do 35%water changes for the next 3/4days and then treat with anti bacterial treatment. is this a reasonable game plan? And also, being a barb that enjoys being in his school, should I worry that he’ll get more stressed by being alone? any advice and experience would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
  2. Hello, One of my tiger barbs (picture below) has had cloudy eyes for the past 2 months. He’s behaved normal this whole time and all I’ve done is maintain my 60% water changes hoping that helps. At the start when I noticed I did 25%WC for 5 days but didn’t see any improvements on the eyes. is this treatable? What I see on google and other forums don’t really help as they describe the fish to be lifeless etc. mines pretty much the second tank boss of the barbs. Any past experiences and advice would be appreciated, thanks.
  3. I’ve got a planted 180litre barb-tank. This gold barb has had a little red spot for the past 2 months. I do weekly 60% water changes as I’m pretty well stocked. ive just raised the temperature from 25c - 26.5c to see if that helps. does anyone know if this is potentially lethal and what’s the best way to go about it? thanks!
  4. And I’m scared the barbs will nip it’s long ‘barbs’(idk what they’re called)
  5. I’ve been thinking of gourami, just don’t want him squaring up with my larger krib. From your experience did the gourami hold his own well without starting or ‘ending’ fights?
  6. Hi! I have a 50gallon tank with 9 adult tiger barbs, 4 small gold barbs, 6 small checkered barbs, 2 male kribs that keep to themselves, 1 small red tail shark and 1 large yoyo loach that I took from a friend a while back that chills with the larger krib. ive been wanting to add a new single fish into this tank. does anyone have some suggestions to what I could add that is semi-aggressive and could stand its own ground as well as have some personality? thanks! (It’s week planted and I’m filtering the tank 5times it’s capacity.)
  7. Thanks so much for the detailed replies. My intention for the single power head was to love the detritus better towards the filter. However I think I’ll just put a sponge filter at the other end of the main filters output to collect any extra bits 🙏
  8. Hello, ive always thought about adding a wave maker into my 42gallon planted tank with my 8 tiger barbs, red tail shark, kribensis and 3 yoyos. ive never done it because I’m scared they’ll swim into it and become a fish horror movie. Could someone tell me if it’s extremely rare or if I should know something in specific that I don’t know about wavemakers and aquariums. should I add the wave maker and shouldn’t cause any issues? thanks for anyone’s time
  9. I’m about to set up a freshwater 40 gallon. Up until now on my 30gallon I’ve used the eheim pick up 200, with a separate sponge filter too. I don’t want to have a filter inside of my tank on this new one. does anyone have any good recommendations for a hang in back or external? thanks!
  10. How many would you say? I wouldn’t want females because I wouldn’t have anywhere to put the fry
  11. I have two tanks. In my 40gallon I have a 3 inch kribensis. He’s very chill and doesn’t disturb any of his tank mates. In my 29 gallon I have a 1.2-1.5 inch male kribensis that I took from a friend that didn’t want him. the issue is he’s aggressive towards the corydoras. My corys are full grown but their fins are getting destroyed. should I put the little male kribensis in with the big one in the 40 gallon? anyone with experience would be highly appreciated. this lil krib is stressing me out. thanks 🙏🙏
  12. Thank you for taking your time to write this! Very helpful stuff. goes to show that With fish we never know 100% until we try I guess hahah. I’ll see how this one behaves for the week and adjust from there!
  13. Hello, I have recently got one 4inch yo-yo loach. I was wondering if I should add 1 more slightly smaller or just leave him how he is. I would get more but I don’t have the space. In about 6 months I’ll be able to upgrade but for now what would be the best? I’ve heard that if there’s only two , they’ll be aggressive with eachother. any experiences? thank you
  14. Hello, My LFS has a single fully grown yo-yo loach. I’m thinking of adding him in to my semi aggressive 40gal. does anyone have experience with single yo-yo loaches? I’ve heard they can be pretty aggressive on their own. he would go in with barbs and kribensis. I would get more but I can’t find any that are near its size. thanks for any advice!
  15. Yes I have Hikari pellets 2 different ones. I have new life spectrum pellets. I have algae wafers. I have live bloodworms and brine shrimp and both frozen. My tiger barbs are huge hahah but my red tail shark instead of eating he just chased my tiger barbs. should I take him out of that tank so that he can focus on eating? thank you for your time
  16. Is there something you’d suggest I try to do so that it grows?
  17. Their staples are pellets, flake, live and frozen foods. The issue I believe is how can I get my red tail shark to focus on the food instead of chasing the barbs at feeding time. Do you have any suggestions? (I can’t move him to another tank for now) thanks
  18. Hello. I have had my red tail shark for roughly 10 months now. I got him at about 1.5inches and he’s probably only grown up to 1.8-2inches. I know he’s meant to be a lot bigger by now and I’m pretty sure the issue is that at feeding time he doesn’t get to eat much because he’s focused on chasing the tiger barbs. does anyone know how I can make sure my red tail shark gets more to eat? he’s very active and has no issues besides the growth. He eats every day but just very little. Any advice and shared experiences would be highly appreciated. Thanks!
  19. My LFS is keeping a adult yo-yo loach by himself and in a small tank due to him being returned twice because of aggression . I kinda want to get him and put him in my 40gal with 1 adult male kribensis and 9 full grown tiger barbs who are pretty good at holding their ground and not being overly annoying to other fish. I know loaches in general love to be in groups however I don’t know anywhere that sells them at the same big size. I feel I could take better care of him than the LFS. Thoughts on the combination? all thoughts and experiences would be highly appreciated. Thanks!
