  1. Wow, very helpful! Thanks a ton @Rube_Goldfish. Yes I am kinda budgeting with this tank, I have 2 others that I am spending money on and plus, I was gone on vacation and didn’t want to order plants last week and them come when I was gone. But I am back, and definitely will buy some very soon. Yes my tank is doing great besides that. And I am seeing nitrates now, so getting closer so good news there. Will remove the decaying plant pieces ASAP. Thanks again for the help 🙂
  2. I love how you want to start out great and make sure your fish (or shrimp in this case) survive and live healthy lives. I think it will work. But don’t forget any water changes, all tanks need those. Imo. Same. Nothing wrong with that. Have fun, and make sure to post results!
  3. I have some sort of algae but of what sort? It looks like staghorn, am I right or completely wrong? @Mmiller2001, thoughts, anybody. Water results as of last night. And btw I am cycling this tank. 20g long started cycling last month. Ph is 7.5. Ammonia 0. (Doesn’t matter tho right.) Nitrite was 3 ppm but is gone now at 0. nitrates between 10 and 20 ppm. Add fertilizer every week. Root tabs every month. Should I add more btw? Been a bit since root tabs. Temp 76. But what do I really do with this algae? TIA 🙂 I have a A about my Vallisernaria. It is not doing great, but has produced 4 new runners in past week. Thanks guys, nitrates above.
  4. Here is pic of the tank stand. Ok so yes it looks super super sketchy. But it held my 5g when I had my betta for a year and a half with no problem whatsoever. So I might use it. And also your probably saying, “is he ever gonna put water in it?” And to answer yes after I am cycling my 20g and have it established. So yeah could be a week or two, or a month or two. Idk yet and we’ll see. But here is the picture of the tank on stand, already have everything a good clean.
  5. Thanks. So no ammonia yet correct? Just keep testing ammonia and nitrite and nitrates for next few days. Clarifying @Tony s that I am right.
  6. Here is the nitrates test I just did, what do u think it is? It is SO hard to tell. @Tony s
  7. Very true. Big chains are kinda risky, you can get a perfectly healthy fish or a fish that the week after you get it.I personally say take a chance, or Dans fish. Online in general
  8. @Tony s, important Q here. My ammonia and nitrite are sitting at 0 ppm. Should I add more ammonia? And see if it drops in 24 hrs and if so I am cycled? Well maybe i am jumping to far because it does take longer usually for a cycle but that is my Q. Oh, should I test for nitrates since nitrite is not present anymore? Thanks a lot.
  9. Yes i agree, with @Tony s, never used that specific product from seachem, but they have a lot of good stuff like prime, fertilizer and all. Yes bacteria and wcs, can be a huge part of fixing this problem here @goodjobchamp. A algae scraper can help as well. Prime for wcs if you have not done that already.
  10. Welcome to the forum! Do you have a PetSmart or Petco in the area? I live in a similar region that has petsmarts with dwarf cichlids. But if not online is actually a great option. Glad you joined, you will learn a ton as i did on this forum!
  11. Welcome to the forum! @Jovius, yes by far the best forum i have joined!
  12. Ok, I am back!!!! I bought a topfinn 20g long lid at one of the best petsmart that I have ever been too in central Florida. It fits ok, and I like it. Will check paremeters tonight. Plants are doing good, anubias grew a new leaf. Val is shooting runners like it’s going outta style lol, so yeah everything is going good. Pics…
  13. Got one or my 20g when on vacation and I dropped it in tank 3 times after getting back today lol. But no fish, so some luck there. But I FINALLY figured it out. It barely fits my marine land 20g long aquarium. It is for 20g longs, but different brand so not a perfect fit, but it actually does the job for me personally. 6 out of 10. Own 2 now, the one for my topfin 10g kit tank is great, love it. So overall yes a decent lid. Recommend it, 🙂.
  14. I am very sorry to hear this @Andarina. 😥 Losing fish is tuff, but now it is time to prepare for your other fishes in the future. First step is figure out the ph and water chemistry, fish will have hard times in ph changing (especially if it is drastic) water. The plumber might have some suggestions when he comes. But @Colu should have more advice about the tank and getting ready for other fish. Again, losing fish is tuff, but sadly pets don’t live forever, but next time, you will be able to give them good long lives once figuring out what went wrong, hopefully! Good luck!
  15. Welcome to the hobby + forum! Hope you can share pics of your tank and betta. Great that you got live plants now in the tank at the beginning of your fishkeeping experience, tons of good things with plants.
  16. I would add ferts soon, but also yes i would condition water as well. Just overall good for the tank. So add some fertilizer this week once, and then make a once a week consistent schedule. I would add some root tabs soon as well.
  17. Oh gosh ok, sorry. Where in the World did I get flakes…. but ok thanks! 🤣 will do @Mmiller2001.
  18. Phosphate correct? That is what I thought Cory said.
  19. Cory on the stream a few days ago told me to add flakes, or eg, but he recommended flakes, will do when I get back from my vacation, on it right now, updates soon, @Mmiller2001
  20. I would trim when it gets full length, but if to huge cut whenever you want, just not to much. Thanks for the update @j_rider!
  21. I personally would switch him to the other tank, but make sure you acclimate slowly and carefully. But yes agreed with @Tony s.
  22. Have any fishkeeping friends around? That like plants? That would be good
  23. Store or friends. But sadly I don’t have hardly any fishkeeping friends, and the ones who do fishkeeping, have no room for fish that I would give. But if you gotta club, the best option imo. Or sell online, aquabid,, things like that. Here! As well, the sell/trade section of this forum.
  24. Sounds good, thank you for the quick reply @Mmiller2001.
  25. How should I get phosphate in my tank? I hear that some fish food (certain kinds) have some in it. Does ACs all in one fertilizer have it? I did 3 pumps this morning after wc btw @Mmiller2001.
