  1. Sorry for your loss. Unfortunately it may not be the last. A lot of times animals get really sick before they show symptoms. And when we treat it takes a bit to get it under control. Not trying to be negative at all but be prepared. We had the same situation this weekend with a pet rabbit. Had all the meds going. He looked better. But was too far gone. Good luck with your angel.
  2. I had one of those with sunset plates. One of my favorite tanks of all time. Working on redoing it again For my platy tank, they kept the population around 30 in a 20g. All age ranges. From fry to 2 years old. It was something to see. The amount of fry present depended on the amount of cover that let them hide.
  3. No Idea at all. I have to let @Guppysnail answer that one. I have tried to feed some gold tetras some micro pellets and the stuff just sinks.
  4. So, what do you feed them? Every time I try feeding a midwater pellet, it sinks way too fast. The corys finish it, but the ones I'm trying to feed miss out. Was looking at getting some cherry barbs for the angel tank. Haven't tried them before.
  5. I agree, but odd stuff happens all the time. At least you caught it and can watch it for the next couple of weeks. So, new tank then? every possibility it wasn't quite ready to go. I know I've done that before. But if it wasn't it will be soon. As you say, just keep an eye on it.
  6. That's not ich. Ich looks like you salted your fish. That Could be epistylis, or fungus. Let's ask @Colu
  7. I'm not convinced you would have a high instance of babies. Everything in there eats fry. It would depend on what the stocking density was and how much cover was provided. That settles it, @Garavar you're going to have to run that experiment for us 😁
  8. It is a possibility. I've seen it before on here. Seen several instances of high ammonia as well
  9. It's the same thing. Minus the phosphate removers. It should help a bunch keeping your discus water pure and clean. They also make chemipure elite. which I haven't used yet
  10. Did test the tank before the water change. It’s possible both were there all along. I wouldn’t worry about the nitrate levels, but nitrites in any level causes damage. The prime will stabilize it, but you’ll need to do another change tomorrow to eliminate it. Check again before the change. It’s possible it’s not quite cycled yet. I’ve been down that road before. And you may want to check your tap water for both. Just to be sure.
  11. Mostly, yes. Phosphorus is one of the primary nutrients plants need for growth. Can you use it for a short time, maybe. But for a newly planted tank, I wouldn’t. You’re going to want them to grow at a healthy rate. Your discus will want to snack on them a bit. Good growth will help them keep going. If they’re snacks and not growing well, they probably won’t make it.
  12. Oh, yeah, no. In your 5g quarantine tank add 1 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons of epsom salt, at the end of 5 days do a good water change and remove the salt. One tablespoon a day , for 5days gives you 1 tablespoons per gallon at the end. Way too high. Maybe not a survivable level.
  13. You must have some amazing stories to tell. Hopefully to a room full of grandkids. When they pay attention anyway. That’s really all you need anyway. Knowing that you have a purpose. And the stories to prove it. I had a cousin that did 2 tours in a support ship. Looks as big as a carrier, but not. He ran the store as it were. Everyone there has a job that everyone else depends on. Which I’m sure you know very well. I know you hear it all the time. But, really, we all really do thank you for your service. Most of us probably couldn’t have done it if we tried.
  14. Worth every penny. And maybe you can see how to do it next time. Hopefully they can help you get a plan to keep it in shape afterwards. That’s sometimes worth the vet visit by itself. It’s either that, or you’re going to have to take them all in when he gets friends.
  15. Well that’s a relief. I’m not sure… okay, scratch that. There’s no way I could trust myself to sedate her and do that.
  16. Your ship? She was a beautiful workhorse. Everybody forgets, we need these ships as much as we need the warriors.
  17. I didn’t do it for that but it works. I went into the basement a month ago and stepped into 8 inches of crystal clear water. Didn’t even see it at first. The softener stuck on and the sump failed. Just by luck I got there then. It could have filled up to the electric panel otherwise. I’d have had my own personal swimming pool down there 😅
  18. To ease that paranoia a bit. keep your cannister in a tote or on a medium depth pan. then go to a Home Depot or Lowes and get a cheap moisture sensor. One that will scream at you when it gets wet. That way you know for sure if it leaks.
  19. @Guppysnail @Retrophyllum_minus was also looking at nannacara, laetacara curviceps, possibly araguaia, or dorsigera (they just dont know it yet 😄) and bolivians. Which ones of those go best in a soft water community tank? Looks the best and remains peaceful?
  20. When I tried the german rams, they weren't all that peaceful. But let's ask @Guppysnail. She breeds a several of those species.
  21. well, technically all those side sponges are going to be loaded with bacteria anyway. So, not 100% sure if it makes a difference. I just try to follow that each time I reload.
  22. You want the chemical last so your bacteria can eat before you remove its food
  23. My lfs warned against it. You can try it or see if you can exchange it. I haven't tried the blue with the lfs warning against it. looking at the difference. Blue has phosphate removers in it. So, you'll always be phosphate deficient in your plants
  24. if you're going to plant, use chemipure green. It's made for planted tanks. otherwise it's the same. That's the correct flow. from the bottom to top outside, then back to the bottom in the center. I constantly have to remind myself that each time I do a refill. 😀
