So my silver dollars decided to spawn today! They have spawned previously but I wasn't prepared for them. I've been using a syphon to capture eggs and then transfer them to an egg tumbler. This is the first time using an egg tumbler so my question is, how much agitation should I be giving them? I'm super excited and don't want to screw it up!

Looking for the best all-around solution for 210G filtering
Cheryl P. replied to Luciferkrist's topic in General Discussion
I have a 220g running one FX6 canister filter. I got a great deal on a second FX6 and bought it because I kept hearing about how the fish I have need more filtration. It's still sitting in the box because the first one is doing just fine. -
You have to have 50 forum posts before the buy/sell area unlocks.

I have a 200w in my 65 gallon discus tank and it's been working great. I keep the tank in the mid 80s. A glass lid really helps out with keeping the heat in.
-
I sure hope so! I'm going away for a few days this weekend and wasn't planning to have babies.

I've always heard that cutting the roots when moving plants is beneficial because it stimulates new growth. Just make sure not to cut them all off and you should be good.

I have a 20L tank on the bottom of a rack that has been largely empty for at least a couple of weeks. There's a BN pleco in there and a couple baby mystery snails. The tank is basically green water now and I haven't really messed with it in awhile. I'm considering just leaving it alone for a future fry food supply. Anyway, I was mucking around and doing water changes today and I found tiny fry in the tank! I used to have a couple of pairs of neon tetras and a group of long fin zebra danios in there a couple weeks ago. There's also a clump of java moss that I bought from a fish club member about a month ago. I'm assuming these are zebra danio fry but they are so tiny! I would have thought they would be bigger since the eggs would have had to been laid a couple of weeks ago. Either that or some mystery eggs that came in on the java moss? I'm not sure but I'm excited to find out!

I always just use water and vinegar. It works well!

@mountaintoppufferkeeper @Graniteer Thanks for the ideas! I'll do some research on those species. I'm not in a rush to set the tank up yet but I'd like to do something different than all my others. I'm not going to lie, a whole cloud of pea puffers does sound kind of amazing π€£

I picked up a used 65 gallon tank yesterday and I'm considering getting puffer fish for it. I've never had puffers before so I'm wondering which types I should be looking at. I would love to attempt to breed them in the future. Anyone with experience have any recommendations?

I have at least 5 and they've all worked well for me. The clamp doesn't fit my 90 gal or 220 gal. I used some velcro to mount those ones so I can remove them when I'm not using them.

@Highwater You've inspired me to start with my neons. I just put 3 pairs into containers and started up an infusoria culture. Fingers crossed!

You should be fine with adding shrimp. Just make sure you drop some food in for them. Mine like the Xtreme Shrimpee pellets and algae wafers.

Nipped fins will heal on their own. I usually just add a little bit of salt to the water to help them along if it's bad. I have no experience with vitachem so I can't help you there.

Oh man, now I want baby mystery snails. THANKS π€£

Mysterious white jelly on tank bottom π±
Cheryl P. replied to Darth Mollusk's topic in General Discussion
Also, this DIY project has been a dream for root tab placement. I have broken the wooden dowel a couple of times but it was easy to replace. -
I believe those are still mosquito larvae but just at a later life stage. Feed them now before more mosquitos emerge π https://www.epa.gov/mosquitocontrol/mosquito-life-cycle

Mysterious white jelly on tank bottom π±
Cheryl P. replied to Darth Mollusk's topic in General Discussion
Hah! Yeah I kind of freaked out when I first saw that too. It took me a bit to figure out that it was a root tab shell. π€ -

@Guppysnail Right?!? I feel that the SA tank is missing something without snails in there. I've played around with the idea of getting a couple of the biggest pond snails I can find to put in. I wonder if the fish I have would leave them alone if the snails didn't fit in their mouths. I'd feel terrible if they got picked on though.

What is the Most Reliable Method to Repair a 30g Long Rim
Cheryl P. replied to eddie462's topic in General Discussion
There's a company in Michigan name Over The Edge that makes fish tank rims. I have a couple of tanks that need new rims but haven't gotten around to fixing them yet. The prices seem reasonable but I wonder about shipping. I have family that lives near them so I just figured I'd pick them up when I'm ready. https://aquariumframeswholesale.com/ -
My Pilgrimage to visit a Fishloaf
Cheryl P. replied to Reactor Axe Man's topic in General Discussion
Ok, so now I'm adding Fishloaf to my vocabulary. π€£ -
I never understood snail hate. I think they are great little critters! I have "pest" snails in all my tanks except for my south american cichlid tank. They like to snack on snails.
-
I have a piece of wood that does this in a 15 gallon cube. When the mulm gets real thick around it I will use a small syphon to take some of it out. The wood has been in the tank for about 6 months and still does it so I'm not sure if it will ever stop.
