Fish Folk
No idea how this will go. Thought I’d make a thread, and workshop this project “out loud.” So, @Guppysnail has some really amazing long-finned Lemon Blue Eye BNPs that breed like clockwork. Too many fry to keep up with though. So we are working out the logistics of (1) shipping eggs to a prospective buyer, with (2) a relatively fool-proof method for hatching and growing out so buyers can expect success, and start a batch of their own. We’ve done this once already. Many went down to fungus in my hatching container. I got about 10x to make it awhile. But sadly… I think my Killis decided they should attack them. So this round, I’m trying out an older style egg tumbler… An air-stone sucks water through the sponge on the bottom… I squirted a few mls of m-blue underneath and let it gently saturate the water column. Discus got very interested… Will stay tuned. Might crash and burn, but at least it looks pretty 🤩 4
AllFishNoBrakes
Excited to see how this goes. Tumbler was the first thing that came to my mind. I almost wanna buy a clutch of eggs now, lol
Guppysnail
I now know how silly I look when I’m waiting for eggs to hatch. Maybe staring does help 🤣 Thank you for helping me with this experiment. Hopefully you will get a great starter group. 5 1
AllFishNoBrakes
@Guppysnail Staring at eggs helps them hatch, just like it helps paint dry, right?!
Patrick_G
Fun experiment! I think I’d be interested in some eggs too. 3

Fish Folk
Going to share what happens here, so even if things fail, we can learn together. This may startle some of you, but here is how I’m using methylene blue in this egg tumbler. The water is being drawn through from the bottom, so I squirt ca. 2 ml. into the tank water column underneath the tumbler, and let the water flow draw it up through the eggs. It looks intense, but really passes over rather quickly… Minutes later, here’s “Red” window shopping… If you look closely at the eggs, there are a few that are clearly infertile. But so far, fungus hasn’t set in… I’m going to begin working on a simple DIY version of an egg tumbler that could be made and mailed out with eggs. 5

Fish Folk
Alrighty. Been tinkering around here. I’m positive there are a dozen ways to improve on this, but here is Draft #1 of a DIY Egg Tumbler. Special thanks to my oldest son (the original FISH FOLK) who helped film this… Now, after filming this, I added a strip of flex-seal tape around the two bottom inserts to keep them from turning sideways and popping out. Already version 1.1 😂… Edited November 11, 2022 by Fish Folk 3

Beardedbillygoat1975
@Chick-In-Of-TheSeahe put some methylene in then let it soak in but with the tumbler it will always end up in the water column. @Guppysnailand @Fish FolkI have a new Ziss tumbler just waiting for a batch! Let me know how I can aid your experiment! 1

You could be a trial for if they survive the pressure changes of air travel. 2

I have it, but not using it on the tank. There was a suggestion to just take the tumbler and do a dip/bath with it if I need to. We'll see how it goes. First time with one of these so it's all new to me. I have read and heard about long term issues with methylene blue. It's in Ich-X so I'm not really that concerned. Day 1. So we'll see how things look and play it by ear.
Beardedbillygoat1975
Some eggs are more permeable then others. I’ve seen similar concerns @nabokovfan87. Just like anything you have people who advocate for a natural method with Alder cones and some are H2O2 fans so methylene is part of that continuum.
