Alexa
These guys showed up in one of my tanks one day, likely hitch hikers from new plants... They’re so cute and I want to know what species they are! 🧐
Administrators Lizzie Block Posted July 19, 2020 Administrators Share Posted July 19, 2020 @Alexa Likely Pond or Bladder Snails, most people just call them 'pest snails' because they breed so prolifically and can take over an unbalanced tank pretty easily. But I'm with you, I think they're cute too!! Plus they're fantastic algae eaters.

I like pest snails, but these specifically I love for their speckled bodies and the triangle tentacles. Thanks again!
Blown68
We found a couple in ours the other day also. Looks like I don’t need to buy any now 👍🏻
pedrofisk
I get them as hitchhikers on pond plants but only get Ramshorn on aquarium specific plants.
Administrators Cory Posted July 22, 2020 Administrators Share Posted July 22, 2020 These are my favorite snails. If I could only have one type of snail it’d be hard to choose between these or Malaysian trumpet snails.
shkote
I never understood why they were so hated. I've seen suggestions just short of tearing an entire tank down to eradicate them. Just look at that face 🙂
Novabound
They work hard to keep stuff clean and make reinforcements if there's a ton to clean up.
Brandy
I was originally so determined to have only nerites. Now thanks to volunteers I have both bladder snails and the mini/dwarf rams horn, in addition to the nerites. I kinda learned to love them all. I think the terror is that you will be overwhelmed. We have all seen that one tank that is just as consumed with snails as it once was by algae.
Diego
Between pond snails and malaysian trumpet snails, I vote for MTS as they are the livebearer of the snails. Pond snails make that ugly gelatinous sack of eggs which covers plants and glass.
Robin
I was watching a video by someone the other day on how to breed Mystery snails. I think I might try it. Doesn't seem like it would be that hard.
ElizabethF78
Snails are the reason my husband has become interested in my aquariums. He is just fascinated by them and enjoys watching their adventures around the tanks!
Suzie
I have 2 nerite snails: they are doing a fabulous job taking care of the algae! Plus, I think they're cute!
Brandy
today I discovered that in addition to the Nerites, bladder snails, and mini ramshorn snails, I have the full sized version of ramshorn newly introduced to one of my tanks. Given that that tank is in need of algae help I am not remotely dissappointed.
