I’d say not every year, but close to, someone spots one at a feeder within the state. We just had a Kirtland’s Warbler in Cape May. One of those ‘one day wonders’. Was verified by more than a few birding heavy hitters in the state. Didn’t have in me to make the drive down there to chase it. But you know, if it was in Cape May, it must have recently flown over you @Fish Folk!
TOtrees
Just found this birding thread… on a fish keeping site. Nirvana!!! Im in southern Ontario, just NE of Toronto, can’t wait to add obs/highlights. I used to work at Long Point Bird Observatory around 98/99, and those of us living at the field station would tally our notes at the end of every day. Anyone want to take a guess at the meaning of “Snobs, bobs and red winged blobs”? Hint they’re 3 species from the list/template. 2nd hint they’re in “bird book” taxonomic order. I know that from these hints some on the thread will get this right away.
Fish Folk
Tomorrow is our annual Christmas Bird Count. This is really quite a thing! It has been going on for 122 years, since 1900. Folks used to gather to shoot birds, but naturalist Frank Chapman suggested _counting them_ instead. The idea took, and Audubon Society organizes it each year. I made my son promise to take as many photos as possible. Here’s an Eastern Bluebird he photographed the other day…
stowcenter93
Sunday is my count day. I'm lucky that my home is located in my territory. Hopefully we get good number at the few inland lakes we have.
TheSwissAquarist
Sadly my mountain valley only has sparrows, robins and kites; but I might take a larger interest since the local authority has started a “Save this endangered bird” program. 😏

Would recommend seeing if there's a count to join! Had a great count day. Highlights include some beautiful Red Shouldered Hawks, an adult Cooper's hawk, over 80 Common Mergansers and a Red-necked Grebe, rare for Northeast Ohio.

JJenna
Sadly there is no bird count in my new home area. Had counted for years at my last home...this time of year the most prolific birds were bluebirds.
Fish Folk
My son promised to share photos this week from our Christmas count last Saturday. We counted 54 species. Went from about 7:00 am - 4:00 pm. Temp ranged from 32-38°-F. Highlights included… a Northern Harrier, Snow Goose, Golden Eagle, loads of Eastern Bluebirds, many woodpeckers, a Kestrel, gray-morph Screech Owl in the knot hole of a tree … and we saw a pair of red foxes chasing a house-cat. 1

Fish Folk
I have some photos from last week’s Audubon Christmas Bird Count we did in our county. Hermit Thrush… Snow Goose (3rd from left, top, flying with Canada Geese) Golden Eagle (Sparrow sp…. I forget 😆) Tundra Swan (size and golden tear drop distinguishes from Trumpeter Swan) There are more to come. My son is not interested in any of these photos… not the quality he prefers… but I made him promise. He’s dragging his feet. stowcenter93
What makes you say red shouldered? Its hard to see on mobile but it looked like a red tailed hawk to me. I can see a faint belly band that is a good ID.
Birdsnstuff
I vote Red Tailed too. Red Shoulders have the red chest/shoulders. Also habitat is more red tail than red shoulder. Not that they don’t visit each others. Cool bird either way! Not to mention you were actually there.
