Birding & Nature Journal

Well, my friend got back and took all the bobcat photos, but not all of my raccoon photos from the same day. Here is one of a female raccoon staying warm in a snowy environment. I could've used the flash extender to get more lighting on her but I did not have the heart to mess with her in that way after what most likely was a long, hard and cold night out foraging.

There may be some bird photos to add later. Caspian Tern we’re watching right now is kind of a big deal this far inland!

Forest walk with dogs this am. I’m a “by ear” birder, didn’t see more than one or two of these. This is the first weekend that 90% of these have been back up here in York Region, Ontario (30-60 mins north of Toronto, but still in the city’s orbit).

  • Wood thrush
  • veery
  • Black throated green warbler
  • Blue winged warbler
  • Black throated blue warbler
  • Hooded warbler
  • Rose breasted grosbeak
  • Ovenbird
  • Field sparrow
  • Red shouldered hawk
  • Scarlet tanager
  • Red eyed vireo
  • Pine
  • Eastern wood Peewee
  • Blackburnian warbler
  • Nashville warbler
  • Chestnut sided warbler

Definitely my favourite time of year, when all my “friends“ come back.
