Widgets
The neighbor's cactus bloomed last night. The flowers just last the one morning and start closing when the sun comes up. The flowers are 8" across when fully open. There are only 14 today. Last year the peak day had 112 flowers open.

Widgets
The shot above was just before 8, the flowers were already starting to close. Here is a shot from just after 9. You can see how they are closing. 1
Widgets
Here is a shot from 9PM, it is a little hard to tell the difference between today's flowers finishing up and tomorrow's flowers starting. And, at 7AM And there are still buds, so more flowers in the coming days. The flowers open at night and close during the day to preserve the precious water in the cactus. It typically only has one flowering period, when the spring rains come, but with crazy weather the last few years we have seen multiple blooming periods. It does not show up well, but there are still withered flower remains from the most recent blooming. If any of these flowers get fertilized, I will post a picture of the seed pod. 1

Widgets
Here is one I found in the backyard two years ago. I live on a canal. A few times a year I find a small one like this up on the bank. 1

Widgets
I have caught Mosquitofish, Least Killifish, Blue Finned Killifish, and Ghost Shrimp. I also got assorted juvenile panfish and Bass that I did put back straight away since they are not legal to keep. This spring, I am seeing a nondescript fish with a flash Blue tail. I guess I need to set out the trap and see what I catch. I hate to do it now because I have no place to keep anything I catch, so I will catch something really interesting.
Widgets
Out of curiosity, I threw the fish trap in the canal overnight. This morning I had a crayfish and a Sailfin Molly. That is the first time for either of them. But no sign of the mystery blue tail fish. On 4/21/2022 at 2:39 PM, Fish Folk said: I bet there’s loads of interesting native fish in that canal! I wonder if the blue finned fish might have been … Bluefinned Killi No, I have caught and kept the Bluefinned Killifish, at least until the gang of Mosquitofish murdered them. I have seen them larger than the Bluefinned Killifish. They seem to the same torpedo'ish body style, but a bit rounder. I cannot any color (only black, grey, and browns) anywhere but a baby blue on the tail. It appears that the full tail is blue, but they won't stay still long enough. And, there is too much glare to get a picture.

Hannah Parker
I love seeing how many different interests of fishkeepers overlap 💜 seems like most of us are just all-around animal lovers. I worked at a Wild Birds Unlimited before and it was one of my favorite jobs, and I still feed birds today. I would love to get into birding. What a talented photographer you have! Truly amazing pictures and what a wide variety of species
