I am the opposite. I sit on an order for a few days because as soon as I make the purchase I think of something else I need. I usually end up sending an email to add just one more item to the order.

Yes, you could move all the HOB media to the canister and switch immediately. You would have all the BB from the HOB plus additional media (assuming the canister is bigger than the HOB). Or, you could move some of the media to seed the canister and keep the HOB until you are comfortable removing it.

I agree with @HH Morant. I have an AC110 and UGF driven by power heads on my 37g. The AC110 is cramed full of 30ppi foam. The basket and the area around the intake tube inside the filter. I also have a large 30ppi sponge prefilter. This is a new setup and has been running for 5 months. This past weekend's water change I noticed the AC110 had reduced flow. I took the sponges out to clean, but there was nothing there. They were as clean as when I put them in. The only thing that needed cleaning (and the cause of the reduced flow) was the build up of mulm on and around the impeller. If you can fit enough 30ppi sponge in your filter, you may not need any other media; and you may not need to clean the sponges very often (maybe never)

My Pogostemon Stalletus Octopus grows way faster than my Bacopa Carolinian. If I don't trim my PSO at least every other week it will fill the entire tank.

@Jawjagrrl @AndreaW I had learned about UltraLife Blue-Green Slime Stain Remover from another source. After I used it successfully, I saw the Amazon review about the calcium and magnesium salts. I saw no I'll effects from using it, but was hesitant to suggest it, preferring to let you research and decide which route to take. The article that I linked mentioned a few approaches.

I shut off the power heads and HOB when I do a water change. I do not like the waterfall from the HOB disturbing the plants while I am doing my pruning. The only time my AC110 ever gives me any problems is when I bring the tank water level below the level of the intake tube in the HOB. It lets it suck air and I have to add water to allow it to prime again when I turn it on. Today, 5 months after the initial setup, I noticed the AC110 had reduced flow. It still starts up fine, but the flow was reduced. The intake sponge and the sponges in the filter are all still clear with no mulm at all. I cleaned the impeller and I'm back to full flow. So, my filter will experience reduced flow before it reaches the point that it will not restart after power off. I think I should have noticed the reduced flow a few weeks ago. I wonder how many filters that don't restart are already showing the reduced flow, but it has gone unnoticed.

They are a nich fish. Their size and unique gestation pattern help increase their appeal. Definitely the "little brown fish" that Cory has mentioned.

Remember, in the wild, the survival of fry depends upon their ability to hide from predators. It is possible that it hid from the net that was "eating" all it's brothers and sisters.

You might want to look at the Least Killifish. They are a live bearer, but they drop the fry one or two a day instead of all at once. The temperature range in the sources I can find are all over the place. I've seen it listed as low as 64, so should fit with the WCMM. @Bay Area Aquatics can provide more details. That looks like a T10 bulb. 4" high x 1 1/4" wide. Standard-medium E26 base. You can probably find a plant bulb or an LED bulb in the T10 size. I don't know enough to make a suggestion.

Is there any way you can transfer the media from the AquaClear to the canister? That way the BB will be maintained and you don't have to worry. Over time you can replace the canister filter media in phases, if you want.

I am still waiting for my first shrimplets, so I cannot answer your question; but this post indicates that the tendency to revert to browns might be overstated.

Are the heaters staying on continuously? If so, it is a sign that there is too much heat loss. You would need to decrease the losses with a lid and a higher water level, like Cory suggested. If the heaters are cycling off, it may be that the temperature control for the heaters are poorly calibrated. You could set them higher and see if the tank temperature increases. For the horizontal orientation to make a difference there would have to be water flow issue, the heated tank water rises up to the control sensor and shuts the heater off before the tank gets up to temperature. That both sides of the tank read the same temperature, this is not likely the problem. You could move a thermometer closer to the heater to see if it reads the same.

This time of year we have a pretty bad algae bloom on the canal. Today they came by and sprayed something on the algae scum on the top of the water. I am not sure what it is, but it will knock back the water hyacinth and water lettuce too. My neighbor is having to take down his dock, as it was never permitted. Here is a shot of the relatively clear water under the dock, where the plants have been growing in indirect light.

I always go for the biggest tank I can fit in the space available. The larger the water the more stable the parameters.
