Alrighty… I’m going to toss in another rare dwarf Cichlid: “Purple Smiler” — Laetacara araguaiae…

They tend to only color up fully when spawning. We had three pairs, and several spawns encouraged by using rain water to spawn them. Their coloration varies depending upon their comfort, food, water quality, context, and overall mood.

A similar dwarf Cichlid in the same genus is the Laetacara curviceps…

Bear in mind that these are probably shot beneath colored lighting, and photoshopped. Still… inspiring!

I have those - this is what they look like:

Mind you breeding colours are more intense. Borelli have a lot more colour when not breeding.

If you want to do purple guppies, be ready to spend a TON of money…

Purple Neos are VERY rare. Here’s a common chart breakdown…

Are those your Guppies? How cow!
Edit: I just noticed the logo on the video, but still, wow!

Agreed! They do color up when breeding. Have yours raised any fry for you?

We pulled one batch of fry, but they crashed shortly after we filmed them…

What PH/KH did they hatch in? Btw it might be easier to let the parents take care of them (if you have good parents).

The pH was over near 7.0

KH was very low. My son used rain water with changes - soft and level pH.

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all of the awesome suggestions! I think I am going to start looking for some purple or purple-ish guppies and do some more research on rams! 😀

Unless you have a bit of experience I would skip german blue rams; they can be a bit delicate and simple things like shock from temp change during water changes can kill them. apistogramma for example are a lot more tolerant and robust.
