Guppy/Endlers Guppy Hybrid

If I hear you right, you're wondering if it's a hybrid?

My N and P class endler males sometimes show orange for a while before showing black. Although the amount of orange on his tail looks guppy-ish to me, the tail seems small, so he might start showing some endler-style black in the next couple weeks. My best guess is that he's got some of both, but I'd say to give it at least 2 weeks to see what the colors do.

Regardless, he's pretty. 🙂

Thanks for the replies everyone, and great looking fish @Taco Playz !

We are still new to the Poecilla but have already had some nice surprises like this guy. Was trying to find similar fish online, to name it lol. But I think we will wait like @CalmedByFishmentioned to see if more Endler comes out.

Temp in tank where he and his 29 sisters were born was 78°F....so I'm guessing if temp was 80°F it would have produced a more even ratio of m/f.

May put some fancy females in a tank with him, see what jumps out the gene pool!

Thanks again

Ooh! Fill me in on this info, please! My endlers have had about 25 fry who are now old enough to identify the boys. There are only 3. The tank's temp range is 74-77. I've heard that if you remove males, they'll make more to even out the population, but the only male with them is the dad. So what's this temp info?

Edit: correct temp range

@NorthernAquaristI think it will be interesting to see how he looks in another month. As @CalmedByFishindicated those are not his final coloration. Keep posting here with pics!

I have some P and K class Endlers that are a lot of fun. 819A5B6A-368D-4553-A81C-D4A5ABD28C06.jpeg.d76f0d96abe96824410878149ec53117.jpegC58EED33-4F1D-49D6-A354-81BB216D3B33.jpeg.bfe377e53c8bca2ecbe14a2cfb1a9827.jpeg

this one is the most interesting I call him Don Johnson as he looks like an episode of Miami Vice kind of a cool neon blue and pink.

@CalmedByFishThe Japan Blues are indeed that blue. No filter on that pic. Obtained them from LRB. They are stunners. I only have a couple female Endlers so I will need to get them bred out this fall and winter.

The other one “Miami Vice” was an offspring from a Japan blue female and a black bar male. My black bar colony is gone due to a livebearer illness.

I have read that higher Temps produce more males and lower produce more females. This was research done in wild caught though, so maybe different for tank bred?

Maybe not just temp plays a role, but general hardness?

Although same tank parameters and same temp for another set of fry born in tank beside this one produced about 40 although some were snacked on....we saved 32 and 12 are male....but different males bred with the same plain endler females...very different  results! I continue to scratch my head in wonder lol

Yep too far north although if you drive south you could grab some but imagine the border might be an issue.
As for The Miami Vice Endler line that would take the kind of tank space I dream about but the Mrs is not ready for. She wants to get me a Fish Shed to ban all but the prettiest displays to.

Yeah I figured we were too far lol....It seems like one just cant ever have enough tank with these fish, eat...breed...eat..breed lol. Prolific is an understatement!

Probably have to set up tubs to keep up with it, try to keep them separated as we go for more specific traits...

Ah the Mrs doesn't want more tank, that sucks but hey at least there is another option like a shed or other building lol. We got a basement to do this in, but Guppy breeding will probably take this basement over if we are not careful lol. Great looking fish but we do like other fish too!

On places like Kijiji people sell them for as little as 50cents, so I see how one can easily hold hundreds over time because you can't sell them due to this.

When you have too many culls I think that’s where a “pet” fish like an Oscar or Vieja comes into play. My local store will take as many Japan Blues as I can give them. I can’t imagine what they’ll say when I start bringing in my Blue Hawaiian Moscows. That might be a future cross - Japan Blue and a Hawaiian! Aloha!
